    Default Favorite Red Haircolor

I recently started coloring my hair and I'm trying out different shades. I'm going for the darker reds since my skin is light olive. I have green eyes and so far everyone really likes it. What are some of ya'lls favorite red hair colors? Is there a brand that seems to work better than others? I know nothing beats going to a salon but I color every month or so and going to a salon would be waaaay too expensive.

I woudl say that Loreal has some pretty nice red shades ( at least they look nice on the box) Maybe you should give that line a try. I am dying to go red, I think in about a month or so my hair will be ready for the change.
I let a pro do my hair, I have had too many mishaps  It is expensive but, I don't want to take anymore chances with my look.

Feria has good reds. So does L'oreal Rouge Romantics.

When my hair was bleached blonde, I used Manic Panic Poppy, it makes your hair amazingly bright but it fades.....

Red is the hardest color to keep in.It fades very quickly and also the hardest to get out.
I would go to a salon personally becouse I don't have the patience to highlight my own hair plus I always have nightmares that I dye my hair and I damage it so badly it starts falling out in clumps.

Anyway, back on subject red looks really good if you have one base color and then a few other different shades of red highlights runing through it. Esp. lighter pieces framing the front of your face.
Loreal also has that new color/highlighting kit that seems like it would be comparable to a salon job and some of the colors are very pretty.
    Good luck.
I personally love lindsay Lohan hair color.
I love red hair and with your green eye's you will look beautiful

I like your suggestion about using different shades of red. I saw Lindsay Lohan's hair color and fell in love with it. I can't wait to get my hair dyed that color. I found a great picture of her that really shows her color well.

I really like the Feria haircolors, always get good results with them.
Reds do fade quickly, but there are so many good color boosting shampoos and conditioners now, that you can keep the reds in between colors no problem. Redken makes a conditioner called color extend that works great, you can use it every 1-2 weeks (depending on how often you shampoo), and it will give your hair that just colored look.

heheh, I use burgandy on my hair, which looks more purple and fades to lighter reddish brown.

I've been a fake redhead for about a year. I leave it to the pros - I've had too many home hair color mishaps. They do my eyebrows too, to match. I am very fair skinned so light auburn works for me, but with your coloring I think dark red sounds good. Ask a colorist about a glaze after the initial single-process. It helps seal in the color. I also use "Artec" shampoo, which is a color-deposit shampoo, to prolong the color between visits to the salon.

    Great avatar, BTW!

Hun please give me your stylist number. I am trying to decided who i should let color my hair. I called Vidal Sasson and they quoted me $350-400 for what I want and my hair length.
My colorist charges $180-200 which is also pricey.

imo, one of life's greatest beauty mysteries.

I have olive skin I always stayed away from the orangey reds, they looked hideous on me. Burgandies and cherry reds always looked best on me. Agree with the color depositing shampoo; it's a must if you dye your hair red. I used Graham Webb.

About ten years ago I colored my hair deep mahogany. I also have an olive skin tone and I liked this very much. I liked playing around with deep reds when my hair was lighter and i was able to change the color more easily then now.

Any beauty supply store should have it, but I also found it online here:

Farrah, you should also call Salon 77 on Maiden Lane in SF for a quote. They did my hair for $75 and did a good job.

Farrah- The place I go to is called oxgenrose on hayes street. I don't have the number on hand but I will look for it later and pm it to you.
The girl who does my hair is lizzie.
    She is GREAT with color.
There is also a guy named james who does good color as well.
I have very long hair so I pay around 140 for a full highlight, plus a cut and blowout.
I usually tip her around 40 so it end's up costing me around 200 bucks for each visit. Which is why I have inch long roots right now
I thought about going to aveda since they are supposed to particurally good with red. But im afraid of what the cost would be.
So for now im sticking to my stylist. She spends hours on my hair and is a perfectionist and very detail oriented which is a good quality in a hair dresser.

She sounds exactly like the type of person I am looking for, my stylist can be very moody sometimes and the results vary depending on his mood.
Now that my hair has finally gotten really long, I am too nervous about catching him on a bad day and ending up with a jacked up color.

I used to use the Artec shampoo and conditioner, until my stylist turned me on to the Redken conditioner. I always found the Artec shampoo was hard to lather, but the purply one was awesome when I was doing my hair blonde. Artec even has now where the stylist can mix the color for you, to match your shade perfectly - pretty cool.
