    Default Hernia surgary

My boyfriend has had a hernia for a year and is going to be getting surgary within a few days.
I was just wondering if anyone has had one and if so can offer some info.
How long will it take him to recover?
Will he be in a lot of pain?
And when can we have sex again?????
    Thanks everyone

What kind of hernia? Abdominal (abs) or inguinal (groin) ? Also, how big is it and what procedure is he having done? (tuck/stitch or are they installing a mesh screen). For most all cases, the screen is the preferred method as it stands the best chances of reduced re-injury.

I got a MASSIVE abdominal last year. Four inch tear, right along near navel area (weight belt slip while doing a few bucks shoulder squats). Procedure was cut away, tuck, and install a mesh screen. Surgury lasted just over an hour. I was released the same day, although only through argumentative means.

Recovery.. sucked. Basically 3 weeks before you have anything that resembles mobility. The first week is basically laying flat on your back, with each inhale feeling like someone is sticking a knife in your gut. Major pain, difficulty getting up to go to the bathroom, etc.etc. for about 3 weeks. After the 3rd week, mobility is fairly decent, but no lifting or exerting yourself for another 2 months or you can risk pulling/reinjuring the region.

I'm grateful and touched by the number of caregivers that took care of me during this period. If your husband is getting an abdominal screen installed, be sure to set up some place he can lie mostly flat/slightly propped and with a clear (no stairs, obstacles) path to a restroom.

Sex? Well, if you dont mind riding cowgirl, the first 24 hours works.. takes the mind off the pain too, lemme tell you. I'm sure the doctor will have other things to say, but sometimes natural remedies heal the body and soul better than any medicine..

It's been 11 months since my surgery and I'm about 80% recovered. I wasnt able to start exercising the area due to the size of my injury until 6+ months after surgery, and the past few months has been trying to rebuild abdominal muscles over the screen that was installed. This is tough to do with limited range of motion and caution not to rip the screen or reinjure, so it's very time consuming.
It doesn't matter if you're somebody in this world, it rather matters you mean the whole world to somebody.

    Thanks for the reply.
I am so relived to know that sex is not completly off limits for a month. I don't think eiether of us could survive that.
His hernia is in his groin area and like I said he has had it for a whole year!
He actually got it by jumping off a 10 foot wall while he was drunk
He diden't realize how far he was jumping becouse it was dark out.
And I guess he thought it was a good idea at the time. ???
