    Default Silicone Implants

A friend of mine just got silicone implants and they look so real!
When did silicone become legal again? Or is it just legal here in california?
If I ever get implants I would like to get silicone. Most of the saline boobs i have seen with a few exceptions look fake.
And alot of them seem to ripple. Is this normal for saline?
Also if you breast feed after getting implants does it change the apperance at all?
Anyway the silicone one's actually moved like natural breasts and they were only 3 weeks old when she showed them to me so im assuming they are going to look better and better.
The only thing that I thought would be bad was that the doctor went through her nipples.
Can you ever feel anything again. And why don't all doctors just go through the armpit. Im esp. curious about this becouse it seems to leave the least scarring. Are there complications that come along with going through the armpit?
If not why dosen't everyone just use this method becouse I would assume it woulden't decrease the sensitivity in your nipples as much.
Hopefullly, there is someone out there patient enough to awnser some of my questions.
    Thanks

My BA was done though the nipple too, immediately after the procedure I was shocked that my nipple sensitivity had actually increased ! I am aware of them 24/7...LOL
Anyway, I have talked to a few doctors here ( I live in Ca.) about redoing my BA many of them have offered silicone as an option.
I am not sure if silicone is being offered to everyone or to people that have had already had implants. Most PS I talk to either go through the belly button or the nipples.
Who did your friend's BA and where is he located ?

I don't think solicone can be done through the belly or armpit, since the bags are pre-filled...

As with any surgery, there are pros and cons for each technique. Although the pros of the axillary incision are that there is relatively little scarring, there are also several cons of going through the armpit.

    1. My doc refused to do mine through the armpit because I had larger than average implants (675cc). Since the axillary incision requires the use of an endoscope to position the implants, there is a higher risk of incorrect placement. He wanted to have a direct line of sight to the pocket to properly position the implants.
    2. There is also a higher risk of infection via the axillary and TUBA procedures since both the endoscope and the implant must pass over so much internal tissue before being placed in position.
    3. The armpit is only used on the first BA. Saline implants are inserted empty and filled up once in position. Think about it....you cannot pull a fully filled implant OUT through the armpit (or bellybutton). Therefore a second incision is used (either nipple or crease) to remove the saline implants before inserting the silicone ones.
    4. Silicone implants are inserted already filled, so again, you can't stuff a filled implant through your armpit or up your bellybutton.
    5. To get silicone implants it has to be either your 2nd BA OR it has to be a special needs case (breast reconstruction after cancer, breast lift, tuburous, etc)

Keep in mind that there is no ONE best way. I wasn't too hot on having crease scars, but I'd rather have my implants positions correctly. Talk to a variety of plastic surgeons and stay away from the ones that use a "cookie-cutter" one-surgical-method-fits-all approach.

I don't know if anyone posted abuot this, but just recently a study found that women with silicone implants had abnormally high levels of a reactive platinum in their blood, urine, and bone marrow - as did the chidren they breast-fed. Apparently, women who'd had the implants the longest had the highest concentrations of platinum (the article said the platinum is used to turn the silicone oil into a gel).

Of course, this is only one study, and there have been other studies in the past that have shown silicone implants to be safe. But I would certainly think twice about getting them until further reliable info is available, especially if I were planning on breastfeeding children.

I think I read the article on Reuters or AP... If you do a search on "implants" and "platinum," it should come up.

my auntie has had silicone implants for about 30 years. And as far as I know the only thing going on with her body is her daily dose of prozac.

But that's an interesting sounding study miss george I'm going to search for it now.

I was going to get silicone implants last year. As Britney said, silicone are prefilled. There are several disadvantages to that. Bigger incision, nipple or crease incision which means visible scar, no adjusting cc's. I decided not to get them because of these reasons. I do not want to go really big, so a crease incision would more than likely be very noticable. Also, most women are a little bigger on one side. I am slightly, and was concerned that it would be more noticable with the implants. With the bags being prefilled, they can't adjust for this with out going up to the next size bag, which would have been too big.
The only way to silicone in the US is to have a medical reason, be replacement implants, or be in a clinical trial. I was going to be in a clinical trial for the cohesive silicone implants.

Rippling is most common with saline implants. Regular silicone (consistency of hair gel) implants can ripple also if you have little breast tissue. Cohesive silicone (consistency of hard set jello or gummy bear) has the least chance of rippling.

All breast tissue tends to enlarge during pregnancy and breastfeeding. When you finish breastfeeding, the tissue goes back to the pre-pregnancy size. This results in sagging of the breast tissue. Genetics and breast size plays a big part in whether and how much sag you develope. Breasts with implants are not immune to this sag. Implants can cause problems with breastfeeding and milk production, also.

Any incision site can cause increased or decreased nipple sensitivity. Most of the time this is a temporary situation that resoves itself during the first year or two, but sometimes it never does. I did loose some sensitivity in one of my nipples with the nipple incision, but 95% returned within a year. I've also had the crease incision, and had super sensitivity of the nipples for the first month or so.

Silicone implants come in the same shapes and sizes as saline ones: round, anatomical, and high profile.

Which shape looks the most natural?
Is there a ''tear-drop'' shaped one?
Most girls I know have round one's.

Overfilling saline implants will lessen the rippling.Mine are overfilled by 150 cc's.I had them done six years ago,and still not one ripple.

I am getting silicone implants (my first surgery) in late October. I am getting anatomical, textured, cohesive gels at 355ccs. I am going over the muscle as my surgeon thinks this is best for me. I already have some breast tissue, but I have some sagging too. This implant will fill me out, and should look like a nice natural D cup when all is healed.

I'll make sure to post lots of before and after pics so you guys can check them out. Also I am more than happy to let any of the girls feel the results (guys have to pay for the priveledge )

The problem with those is that they can turn & then have them done again. I want to get the HP's for my second.

What kind of silicone did she get? I know there are three types. Hard gel, hard gel with liquid, & liquid only.

BTW, I got my first salines done through my nipples. You cannot see the scar bc it was done so small & yes....they feel totally normal as before. But I can't get my second with silicone through my nips bc I have small areolas(sp?) & the incision is gonna have to be bigger. So I have no choice than to get it done through my crease. Can you see her scar?

I keep hearing this statement over and over. And while yes, it's a possibility, it's pretty rare. It's pretty much unheard of as long as your surgeon is skilled with placing them. I've had anatomicals for almost 4 years now and no flipping. That's why they are made textured, to reduce flipping and to (theoretically) reduce capsular contracture. Just follow the drs orders after surgery.

Anatomicals are good for narrow chested girls. If you compare an anatomical with a round of the same volume, the teardrop is more narrow and projects more. If I ever have a redo, I've either sticking with anatomicals or going with high profiles because I love the projection.

also, as a side note, teardrops = anatomicals.

I worked with a girl in Houston whose boob had flipped while she was playing with her daugther one day. Funny thing was in the 2 years, I worked with her she never got it fixed. I have to say her other boob
looked great ! One of the best I'd ever seen. I am not sure if her implants were silcione or saline.

I have a very small frame and my boobs stick out on the sides, which I can't stand. The anatomical sound like just the implant for me.

Sapphire, I want to get anatomical shaped implants when I get my breast redone this upcoming Winter. How can I reduce my chances of the implants turning. Also do you massage your breast daily ?

I don't exactly know how to reduce the chances, from what I understood alot has to do with the surgeon creating the proper sized pocket. And then of course it's important to follow directions afterwards for aftercare ie: not overdoing it, don't lift your arms past your shoulders for so many days etc.

Textured implants somehow bond with the tissue (i think) and they don't roll or rotate like smooth ones.

My ps instructed me to not massage. I don't know why. So I never have. I would imagine that massaging anatomicals might not be the best idea.

I can't wait to see these silicone teardrops though!

The risk of having an anatomical implant rotate is only in the first 2-3 weeks of healing. After that the capsule is formed around the implant, and there is tissue adhesion to the implants textured shell. My PS has me massaging mine, but I have a history of capsular contracture (excess scar tissue=hard implants).

High Profile implants are not as wide as round implants. They are more narrow and have more projection like the anatomicals. Anatomicals give a natural sloping breast result, less upper pole fullness and more lower pole fullness. High Profiles would give you fullness in the upper and lower poles. It depends on what kind of result you want.
