    Default Question for the girls....

This is an ongoing struggle in my mind.. My girl loves that I workout and keep in shape. Both of us train regularly, and actually train together when our schedules permit.

I constantly get stories from her about girlfriends busting her hump about dating a gym rat, and how unatractive it is.

I am happy with the way I look, because my girl is attracted to me. But it really stumps me when I hear things like this, and it makes me question what is the reason for comments like this.

Just curious to see what everyone's thoughts are on this, and if most woman prefer not to associate with meatheads. (as they label us, lol!)

    Maybe its just a stereotype??

Personally I don't see anything wrong with dating a "meathead" as you say. They aren't my type by any means, but never would I tell a friend to break up with her boyfriend for that reason. (I'm the skinny pale type myself.)

So, don't worry about it. If your girlfriend loves you the way you are, that is what matters. Tell her friends that they are just jealous!

Different girls like different things. I don't like huge muscular guys, but have several friends that do. Your girl must be one that likes that. Be happy!

I know this thread is way off topic, I am just curious to see if there are stereotypes, and what other women think...

Thanks for all the input though... I am happy, and I love my girl, I just get aggravated with the comments sometimes... lol...

I think that a lot of the stereotypes have something to do with steriods. I think that guys that use them are scary and many of the ones I know beat up on their girls. Not saying anything about you. That is just one of the things people think about big guys like you.

I never thought of that point... I have used supplements in the past, my girl makes fun of me though... she laughs, and can tell as soon as I start taking anything... not for any negative reasons, she says I get more emotional and tend to be even more romantic when I am on... go figure... lol

Good point though, there are alot of guys who turn into assholes when they take anything...

Well maybe because they think that a guy that's always going to the gym is superficial but judging by your picture they must simply be jealous

I think Nichole has a point about the steroids. But alot of it can be jealousy too IMO. I used to work out like crazy and I could lift 330 with my legs. Someone always had something to say. I wasn't big and bulk, I weighed about 115-120 at 5'3. Good supplements like EAS Creatin and CytoVol helped alot. I do notice changes in my moods with certain supplements, I just wrote off as my body getting used to it.

In your case, you do not need them, but if for some reason a guy can't develop his pecs properly,I don't see anything wrong with getting pectoral implants. We women get implants,I don't see the big deal with men getting a little help too.

I think it depends on how much of your time you spend working out and if you do other things. My mom is sometimes a bit annoyed with her fiance because he's retired and works out 5 days a week for 3 hours a day then he its hard getting him to do anything physical to help her like mow her lawn or lift things moving because of "his back." If you do other things in your free time then I think it's all cool.
You look great- most women like muscular, strong guys.

    You look Great!

My husband and I are both gym rats...and it's part of what makes our relationship so healthy. I'm a group fitness instructor, and I wish more couples would schedule fitness into their daily routine. The company that I work for promotes Family Fitness, and encourages mom, dad, and kids to come to the gym together. As the old saying goes, the family that plays together stays together.

What is a "meathead" anyway??? Someone who cares enough about their physical fitness enough to devote time and energy to it? Why is that a bad thing? In my experience, the only people who refer to body builders as "meatheads" are couch potatoes.

I love "Meatheads", lol. Alot of my friends (NOT ME) tell me this, why they wouldn't date one because:

    1) They're not attracted to the big look. I think they're out of their minds, that's masculine looking to me! LOL

    2) The temper & cocky which most have attitudes.

    3) They all cheat. (Not true btw

This is because guys that find themselves in the gym with a high degree of frequency are presumed to be:

    a) on the juice

    b) woefully narcissitic

    c) self-absorbed

    d) all of the above

While I don't hit the steel as much as I did during my military years, fitness has always been important to me and my siblings. Don't apologize for making personal fitness a priority; a casual perusal of people in any public place will show you that not enough people take that viewpoint.

There's a difference between being fit and being obsessed.
Idealism is fine, but as it approaches reality, the costs become prohibitive.

I also dig big, bulky, muscley guys. (My SO is 265-270 pounds!)
But I could see how the stereotype could develop, there are some duuuuuumbass guys at my gym, big, stupid, and think that since they are "ripped" that all the girls at the gym want to be with them, and so they proceed to hit on you when all you want to do is workout. I have this happen about once or twice a month at least...so I could see how it could happen. I have met a lot of guys who are concieted also, because of their nice bodies. However, I work out at the gym 5 days a week...doesn't that make me a gym rat? I agree, there is nothing wrong with putting time and energy into feeling good and looking good, and i'm sorry these girls are giving you flack.

The few "meatheads" I've dated were totally self absorbed and it drove me nuts. At the same time though, it made me incredibly insecure of my own body. I thought if they pushed so hard to have the "perfect" body, they would be disappointed by mine

    Interesting point Taylor...

I am sure 90% of the girls who make comments have had a run with one of the guys who give meatheads, lol, a bad reputation...

I have two uncles and a couple cousins that are contest bodybuilders. I could see how some girls/women could not like that since I've seen my relatives go thru the precontest diets and workout schedule that effect their moods and even their frame of mind plus it consumes their free time.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

I like big muscular guys. As long as you are treating your girl right (no abuse of any kind) then your cool. Just because you work out doesn't mean anything. A 120 lb computer tech could be just awful as a gym rat, just depends on the person.

Keep up the good work. You look great and even sound like a nice guy to. Hee Hee

In my opinion, your girlfriend needs to get new friends. If she is happy and you have a good thing together, what kind of friends would give her shit about your appearance? The only person who needs to be attracted to you is your girlfriend, not her friends.
If you were some 500 lb. fatass who sat around eating and wartching soap operas all day, they could say something because your physical appearance would suggest that maybe you are too lazy to give anything to the relationship.
But you obviously have the ability to work towards and commit to a goal. Screw them if they are not attracted to that goal. I think they suck for saying anything about it.
Anyway, you look great and they are probably jealous.

Thanks Rusty, I would be the nice guy type... lol.. I only workout and train to feel better about myself, not too concerned about competing with everyone else in this world... lol

Funny you say that Nat, these girls have faded off in our lives along with a bunch of half rate friends we chose not to associate with anymore... its funny how as we get older, we become less and less tolerant of the bs that goes on in this world... ex, friends who are not really your friends... hahahaha...

As for the jealousy, you hit the nail on the head... but its not jealousy because of how I look, more on how she looks... my girl is absolutely stunning... and has a beauitul personality to match her looks... I think these girls just have something to say about everything because they envy her...

I'll start taking any comments as a compliment in the future... thanks so much for all your good replies...
