    Default Pole tricks?

I've danced at different clubs, but have never done any pole tricks. I always get nervous about fumbling around and falling and hitting my head or something embarrassing on stage.

    My first question is ...
    1. Do you need a certain type of shoes to balance yourself when you wrap your legs around the pole? I don't wear stilettos, I wear wedge platforms since I can dance better in them. I've watched other dancers on the poles and it kind of looks like the stiletto heel is helping them stay in place when hanging up side down and stuff.

    2. Whats the best way to spin, hand and leg placement, etc..?

    3. And hanging up side down?

    4. What about sweaty hands? I always wipe down the pole and my hands before I start dancing, but the more I touch the pole, the sweater my hands get.

I wish I had a pole at home, because I really dont want to practice when I'm suppose to be on stage in front of all the customers. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate them.
*yes, I'm still bruised and sore..*

Sweetie, there are many threads on this topic. Scroll through them. I can give you some web sites that would help you in learning some pole tricks as well as purchasing a pole for your home. This is easier than me trying to explain it all to you. I can say that yes, there are certain tricks I do that are in need of a good stiletto heel. It acts as a hook. I wear 7-8 inch heels.. Good luck..

Go in before your club opens and practice.

One of the ladies on another thread recommended a book called:

The S-Factor: Strip Workouts for Every Woman
    by Sheila Kelley

Here is a link to Amazon.com

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846

If you go to a Borders book store you'll find it under general health & fitness. It only costs about $15.

It contains a lot of instructions for streatching, basic dance, floor work, and even pole tricks!

I bought it for a newbie dancer at a club I visit and she's been very pleased with the results. Even some of the veteran dancers learned some new moves and laughed at the names given to moves they do all the time.

    Best of Luck!

^ Yes, it IS a very good book. I am waiting for the videos to come out so I can see them (the pole trick videos, not the regular dance moves video). You can check out the website at: http://www.sfactor.com.

    Happy pole tricking!!

I also very much back the opinion that you kinda just have to do it!. Just get out there, and attack the pole like no one is watching.

I do some of my best tricks in the privacy of my own home, sadly. Only in the last 2 weeks *when someone told me just what I told you* have I gotten more gutsy onstage.

Just imagine that it's just you, the pole, and some sexy music....

If you want to climb the pole and do tricks from up there you'll want either boots or a shoe with a wide piece of plastic covering the top of your foot. This helps you grip the pole because the plastic acts as friction. Cleaning brass poles with alchol and spraying a little on your hands helps with gripping when you have sweaty hands. Also there is a product that can be bought online called dry hands that helps a lot. Similar products are sold in sporting good stores for golfers to get ride of sweaty hands. After that it's all practice. I am currently taking a class to learn pole tricks. Take care!

Fawnia has a great pole video and she explains stretching as well. It's about $30.00 but I'm sure you can find it for less.

in order to do pole work you have to be able to support your own body weight so i first suggest going to the gym for upper body strength so u dont pull something and so you can pull yourself up..

The only pole tricks I know Is to swing on the pole with my legs out but together and then sliding down the pole slowly and then upside down!

Sheila Kelley's Pole Trick video is out...just bought it. Should be getting it soon...I'll let you know. So far...Fawnia's is a good video, Poletricks 101 is more for very advanced pole dancers, and we'll see about Sheila Kelley's...From the list she has on her website, it's more of a newbie pole dancer video...so it should be ok. Will keep all updated!
