Default buying my mom some plastic surgery.

My mom is the most beautiful 54 year old i know. But she has vericose veins and although she doesnt really say much i can tell that they bother her. I saw a special on tv yesterday on how a nurse/ps can inject something directly into your veins that instantly gets rid of vericiose veins?

this of course is done at a plastic surgeons office, and i was wondering about the cost?

anyone hear of this?

My mom has bad vericose veins too. My mom's are so bad that she has to wear support hose even with pants and raises her legs when she gets home from work because the blood just isn't flowing in her legs. She went to a vein specialist and he listened to blood in her legs and said she had the worst flow and pooling he'd ever seen. My mom is also self-conscious about her legs (the veins show) and will never wear shorts or a skirt without hose in public. It's a shame because my mom is pretty too- she's 5'10 and blonde.
I've heard that vericose veins are genetic so I have to be careful of that. Running and eating a diet low in saturated fats helps prevent them.
My mom heard about the injections too a few years ago but I'm really having trouble remembering the cost. Maybe it was something like $800 or $1000. I'd like to know more about the procedure too. Also I saw vein health vitamens (that I think had horse chestnut as an ingredient) at Walmart and was wondering if they really do help prevent them.

I've also heard a little about that procedure.....my mom is 50 and in great health and shape, but she also has some on her legs. I know the procedure is non-invasive, but other than those details I'm not sure. I also would love more details form someone who is better informed....!!!

It's not inexpensive, but it's less than face lifts or BA's.

A coworker had it done and it left brown spots. It's also not supposed to be comfortable. She did the saline, not lasers. The brown spots were no where near as bad as the veins, but it's a common effect.

Oh and I think I read there was a health benefit to the extent that it lessens the chance of blood clots.

I actually heard by a doctor that running can create and even make the already there veins worse. It's the constant stomping of the leg to the ground that can create it. Most marathon runners have veiny vericose legs at an early age. Vericose Veins run in my family too and I want to take care of it asap! :'( I was also in Track and cross country in School. I'm keeping my fingers crossed ers: I know it's gonna happen to me but atleast the procedure will be perfected.

ok girls. The vericose veins are actually spider veins, and good thing.. because its like only a maximum of 1k to treat.

I called a vein center in tampa, and they said that they inject a "soap solution" into the vein and its less painful then the saline injection.

if my mom had vericose veins (deep routed painful) then it would be like up to 5k to treat!!! But the lady said on the phone that sometimes insurance covers some, if not all of that?
so, its going to probally be 3 or 4 treatments at 150-200 a peice. Not bad at all. I wish i would have known this a while ago.

I'm happy for you tampadancer that you'll be able to get your mom treated. Thanks guys for posting the pricing information! That's good to know for perhaps the future. My mom has both vericose and spider veins. (I don't have enough saved to help my mom.) Thanks for telling me shedevil that running isn't good for veins. I'll do other exercieses instead. I ran cross country and track in high school too. I'll keep my fingers crossed with you too. At least I'm thinking they won't show up until I'm at least in my 30s (if they do show up) and then I could get a prcedure.

There are two common treatments for leg veins (spiders not varicose veins), sclerotherapy and laser. Sclero injects an irritant into the vein to cause it to collapse and not flow. Typically either hypertonic saline (not the stuff in implants) or sodium tetradecol (kinda a soap solution) is used. Problem - lots of injections. may take several treatments, if there are multiple "feeder" veins it may not work much. Laser uses light energy to collapse vein. I stopped doing them because : its pretty labor intensive to do sclero and the payments were so-so and lots of patients came back in with other veins and it was hard to figure out what we had treated and what we hadn't. As for varicose veins, these need to be stripped out. This is sometimes covered by insurance especially if you have pain with them. Often a vascular surgeon, not a plastic surgeon, would do this. Tampa, I agree it is sweet of you to think of that for your Mom, but have you talked to her about it? My Mom would be upset if I thought about paying for something like that for her behind her back. But she's wierd too, and we really don't get along. But anyway, I is a very sweet thing.

Yea i bought a gift cert and she's making an appointment for her first treatment soon.
My mom and i are pretty close. At first she didn't want to take it, but then later after some convincing she was so happy. My mom has plenty of money to do this, but the fact of the matter is SHE WOULDN'T do it for herself.
She has done so much for me, i just wanted to find a creative way to tell her thanks.

I guess if we were not close, and she was embaressed by her spider veins, her reaction may swing a different way. But this is my mom, not just some random person.

I think it's a great idea. I know how good cosmetic work has made me feel. My mom's getting a brow lift, but it's not in my means to assist her with it. Veins are also less invasive and I would equate them more with a spa type treatment (ok, maybe not as relaxing), which is a generally accepted gift. This will outlast any manicure or facial.

I'm sure your mom will be ecstatic. Good for you.
