    Default Super dry skin..

Help. I swear this is because of my birth control pills, which I have no intention of stopping!

I try to stay away from Proctor & Gamble, etc, because I don't approve of animal testing. Nothing seems to be moisturizing enough for my legs and arms though. My face and back are ok, but the legs are painfully dry. I am using this cocoa butter oil right now, which feels great til it's gone and then it's dryness again. I fake tan, which probably isn't helping, but I don't intend to stop that either. I've tried Apothary, Lubriderm, Eucerin, Elizabeth Arden, vaseline intensive care, etc.

    Suggestions?

Bag Balm, widely available in dairy industry states. Big green tin with rose-adorned cow on lid. Will sting a little but works great.
In the baby products aisle, "white" petroleum jelly is available...lighter than Vaseline. Also, maybe baby oil gel might work for you.
I put on long johns and socks when deep moisturizing to keep the emollient on my skin and off the sheets or couch......do you live in the Plains???
If it's this bad, you might want to change your Pill prescrip. Planned Parenthood was cool with me wanting to switch, there are many types of Pill available. Low-level pills generally don't have the same drying effect as Higher doseage Pills.

You might have eczema. Consider going to a dermatoligist.

Also try aquaphor. That's what my derm had me use when I had eczema. It's really greasy. Apply it immediatly after showering. Don't shower in hot water...try luke warm...as cool as you can stand is better.

I take a crazy dosage of Accutane which if you ever have taken it... it dries you out like crazy to the point of hands cracking and lips super chaped like I have been skiing for days straight. Well the only thing that has worked for me has been aquaphor. Then at night before bed a heavy creme like the nivea night one.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

Try shea butter, comes in a tin, (pure form of it), or products w/shea butter in them. L'Occitone.com (they are also sold on QVC, & have stores in malls. Also, I like avacado oil, & grape seed oil. They are very light, easily absorbed. I don't like baby oil, or vaseline, both of which contain mineral oil, a petroleum by product.

I love grapeseed oil!! I live for it!

Also, you may want to check your lifestyle...if your body is "purging" more water than you are drinking, then you may be suffering from the beginning stages of dehydration.

Do you drink a lot of caffeinated beverages? Do you smoke? Do you work out a lot? Are you drinking at LEAST 8-10 glasses of water per day? If you smoke and drink, then you need to substitue about 1/2 glass to 1 full glass of extra water PER DAY, PER drink/cigarette, etc. Otherwise, the diuretic effect of tobacco/caffeine will purge more water than you have.

Also, check the labels on your pills...see what the side effects are. Also, at your next check-up bring this up with your doctor. If it is, indeed, your pills, they may need to adjust the strength of them...just a thought.

Bath & Body works has a deep moisture body butter which I use during the winter when I get super dried out, they also have a healing hand cream that I used before I found that. Great for hands and feet. If there is still a Garden Botanica catalog floating around I know they had/have great products specifically for legs, feet etc... and they aren't heavily scented.

I'm going to try the aquaphor. and maybe some saran wrap and long johns, although this is florida! Thanks for all the input.

I don't THINK I have eczema, but I do have some red patches on my arm. Then again, so does my boyfriend. I looked at a few eczema web sites and it's just not that bad. I really think it's the pills. I am on Lo-ovral, and no I don't smoke and I drink tons of Decaffeinated tea and water.

I've had eczema and it didn't look like the photos listed on most websites.

I have to go to the doctor next week anyway because I switched insurance companies. I'll have to ask.

Did your eczema go away eventually?
