Default Ideas for snacks at work...

    Hey guys,

I am going back to work after a few months off and I need some mid shift snack ideas. Something to carry me through the night and avoid the hunger pains and fridge raiding when I get home. I used to drink at work to avoid the hunger and keep me perked up but I am plainning to stay away from that and want to be prepared.

Thanks in advance for the ideas,
    k

Take a few small baggies of pre-cut veggies and fruit. I always use my foreman grill to make grilled meat and cheese sandwhiches. You don't need butter...just put the plain sandwhich on the grill, toast it up, cut it into squares and pack away. I usually make a couple of sandwhiches along with the fruits and veggies. Very non-messy, non-greasy foods which you can pick at through the night. Heavy enough to give you a fill without making you feel tired and light enough to not get sick from dancing.

You may also want to take a protein mix shake...

    Happy dancing!

You may want to try cereal bars, or the different types of "power" bars, flavored rice cakes, I like avacadoes, they give me energy. Also the yogurt "tubes" I freeze them & take with. & hard boiled eggs

Right now my snack of choice is KTime Muffin Bars. Also, thanks to my international flight recently, I have learnt which foods are good to keep you awake ("alertness-producing foods").... and which ones are good for if you want to sleep.

    Therefore:

Cheese (of all kinds, lean or low-fat)
    Yogurt
    Nuts

    are also good snack choices.

Other "alertness-producing foods" according to my little "62 Natural Ways to Beat Jet Lag" book:

    Beans of all kinds
    Skinless chicken
Dairy products of all kinds (look for low-fat)
    Eggs (hard-boiled, scrambled or omelet)
    Fish fillets of all kind
    Ham
Meats of all kind (lean is best, avoid high-fat cold cuts)
    Salmon (baked, broiled, smoked)
    Seafood (avoid fried, sauteed)
    Seeds
Soybean products (beware of high calories)
    Tuna (packed in water)

Second best "alertness-producing" foods (high-fibre, low fat carbohydrates)

    Bran Muffins
    Nonstarchy fruits
    Apples
    Bananas
    Berries
    Melon
    Plums
    Raisins
    Fruit N Nut mixtures
    Nonstarchy vegetables
    Carrot (sticks)
    Chickpeas (fresh, roasted)

    According to the book
....start with protein to allow the brain to block serotonin release. if you are eating a mix of protein/carbohydrate foods
