Default haven't worked since hurricane charley...effect of natural disasters on $$$

so...as the topic says, i haven't worked (danced) since charley, and i'm worried that when i go back, this might drastically cut into my money. i was just about to go back when jeanne came through. not surprisingly, i'd rather not go in if i'll be leaving with nothing or almost nothing to show for it.

so...for the florida folks (and those who've experienced similar natural disasters in the past, or more recently with ivan)...how much has this cut into earnings? what should i expect?

Bike week is this weekend in the carolinas.Should be good.
If you dont want to come that far up the coast, head for Atlanta.

I 95 has alot of money on it,your just at one end!New york is at the other with alot of good stops along the way that are bumping right now, with many of us at the start of our busy season((doing snoopy dance on desk))

If you make it to Va let me know,i can help there.

    Keep in mind...

Your an artist.Your a performer. You can be dropped in by parachute to any state or country and instantly walk in and get a job making instant cash somewhere.
Your special fucking forces baby!!!!Green Berets in thongs!!

    Your mission,
should you choose to except it,
is to get the hell outta FLA and get your money on!

Im sorry to say,and its just my opinion, but i think its going to take 1-2 years for the industry to get back on its feet in parts of Fla that were hardest hit.
I thought Charley alone would change the game down there,im just stunned at what has come after that!
I already know of two clubs that have changed hands in the last week.Im sure more will follow in the next year or so.
Its going to be a whole new face on the market in Fla in 5 years.Im sure it will be for the best.

Keep chasing that dollar with a handfull of dreams.

    Good luck.

yeah...i was worried it might be that bad. thing is, right now, i can't afford to move out of florida right now. does anyone know how the money is in tampa right now, i know that area wasn't hurt nearly as much as some of the others.

though, once i can afford it, atlanta or houston are major possibilities. i've been hoping to move to one of them sooner or later anyways...now it just will have to be sooner.

thanks both of you...keep the advice coming. i sure do need it. (and the other florida dancers here might too, huh?)

You may want to try working in an area that was hardest hit. Why you ask?? CONTRACTORS! They have unlimited expense accounts. They're also generally generous, down to earth kinda guys.

Ha! And my friend that is visiting me from Miami is whinging because Guam's a bit slow right now. You'd think she'd realize it could be worse!

Damn! I didn't even think about that. I recently moved from the Orlando/Daytona area 4 months ago and it's so weird I didnt think about dancers in Florida. Aww I'm sorry to all you Floridian dancers! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys

Yes it has been terribly bad for this whole month and my area had minimal damage. Trees and debris and power outages. I have not seen it so dead. As for te contractors we have had several in and they are cheepos. Two came in last night scouting for a place all 60 guys can come. They didnt do one dance. I hope there all not that way. Season is coming and huricane season is almost over. So hopefully next month when all the northeners come in it will get better.

Here in Tampa, we didn't get THAT hard hit mainly for most of the four, but it SERIOUSLY cut into my business, cuz apparently there aren't too many people in the Tampa Bay area who know what a budget is because I kept hearing time after time "I dunno if I can spend too much on dances...the hurricanes wiped me out." *Sigh* hopefully by mid October things should get back to normal.

My bar had minimal damage from the last few 'canes, and I was back at work the weekend after curfews and such were lifted for Charley, Frances, and Jeanne. Of course it made things a lil slow, money wise... but it kept moral up and kept the loyal regulars cheered up post-'cane. Things seemed to get back to "normal" for us the 2nd week after the coast was clear.

I just went through Ivan and the money sky rocketed through the roof at my club. All the releif workers are coming in but no locals. The are pretty good tippers most of the time. The only thing that bothers me is that they all ask me to come back to the hotel room. I hate that because dancers are not hookers.
