Default Lap dances and free speech

It can be rather difficult to justify a lapdance as being worthy of free speech protection. It's really more of a commercial service than performance or anything else. Therein lies the problem for the stripping industry. Commercial services can be regulated or banned as the government pleases, even at a whim. As the industry increasing moves from performance to commercial service, it's status becomes increasingly tenuous.

I found this comment and thought it worthy of discussion.

I personaly don't see it falling into free speech-I think contact dances( even though I choose not to buy them) should be legal because it falls into personal liberty category for me and not limited to free speech. Both parties involved in the activity are adult and willing ......

    any comments, opinions thoughts?

exactly mike, exactly.....thats simmilar to what i was saying about gender descrimination with regards to extras, and age descrimination with regards to letting those under 18 on here and SW.

now people are gonna come on here and say, but it says adult, and the age of majority is 18...yah, because thats the law. most laws are unjust. revolt.

no, that doesn't work. I DO VOTE. voting didn't do shit for the colonists(yes, i know, they had no vote), they had to revolt. you need violence to legitimize a revolution. its the only real way to effect change.

Violence ????? I couldn't disagree more ! Change through fear/violence is only temporary at best, if it happens at all. Thats like:

"do it my way, just because I say so, or you will be hurt."

    ah..... can you say dictatorship.

??? I think the key is for more people to vote, most people don't care, that has got to change or the people who do vote will continue to have a disproportionate amount of power (can you say "christian right"?).

Although I wouldn't want to give up lap dances, it's a real stretch to me to call them examples of free speech.
Yep. Lap dances aren't protected as free speech, but ought to be protected with free speech by those who value the freedom.
This is where the catchy witticisms go. Forgive me if I'm too jaded to cough one up. If you must have one, may I suggest Bartlett's Familiar Quotations: http://education.yahoo.com/reference/bartlett/
