Default Walking ATM

Just thought I'd share an interesting story from last night. I made a trip to a regular bar with a couple of friends and started chatting up this pretty blonde elementary school teacher, things were going well, when she says to me "do you like shopping? we should go shopping together sometime". UUUGGGHHH, she wanted me to buy her stuff already, she's not even a stripper, I hadn't even gotten sex from her. LOL, at least it confirmed for me the that I do in fact have a "Walking ATM" sign across my forehead (in or out of a strip club).

Pretty blonde...wants to go shopping...hey wait a minute, I know that chick!

RH, I think you found my former ATF for me. If you see her again, ask her if she turned 24 last Friday. If so, we have a match.

I don't blaim you for wondering about her motives, but maybe she wanted to see you again and this seemed like a safe way to meet you again without having to call it a date? Window shopping can be kind of fun, and you can find out a lot about the kinds of things she likes (and vice-versa). Also it is an opportunity to have coffee or lunch with her and get to know her better.

i agree with darren. her motives may have been totally innocent. i would have taken her up on the offer. however, if she wanted me to purchase some items for her. i would have to disabuse her of that silly notion, on the spot.

The Travel Channel did a segment on the Mall of Americas a few weeks ago and it was mentioned on one of the vignettes that a day at the mall was actually one of the most popular activities for a casual first date. In this case, the fact that she's a school teacher and you met at a regular bar, I'd venture to guess her motives were purely innocent.

See! You did learn something about real women from strippers!!!! LOL. I agree with the guys that you should have set up the date but refused to buy any gifts...unless of course it was a sex toy that you were going to use on her.

Yeah I agree, it was probably a sincere offer. I believe for women, shopping is as much a social activity as for us guys to go to the bar to drink a couple beers and shoot some pool.

Its funny how we let our SC experiences influence our judgement regarding everyday events.

Well, I've been on shopping walks with a lot of female colleagues. I've never bought them a thing. It's been kinda fun. We walk, we talk, we sometimes stop in stores (OK, which is somewhat boring, but if the company is good...), and sometimes they want to try on outfits and ask my opinion, which can be fun. If they buy something, they haul out their plastic.

I'm not in a dating scene, but it seems to me that going shopping with a lady would be a good opportunity to chat and get to know each other a bit without calling it a date. If you like each other, stop for lunch or dinner or something. It seems like that would be a nice, casual, no-pressure progression.

I don't know guys, perhaps I'm just a cynic, but where I'm from "let's go shopping together" is code for "buy me stuff". I've never quite been able to crack that code though so I guess I could be wrong. Anyways, she's got my number, if she calls I'm fairly certain I will be pushing for some non-shopping related activities.

Perhaps some female perspective would help. Ladies, any thoughts?

Actually I think this really has more to do with my past experiences with women outside of SC's than inside of them, I still maintain that I have learned absolutely nothing about women inside of a SC, it's quite the contrary actually, what I have learned about women outside of SC's has actually helped me in my dealings with women inside of them believe it or not. Damn, I need to start meeting a better class of women.

This sounds innocent to me and maybe you are a bit jaded from previous experience with women, whether they were strippers or not....

I don't like the malls here in Austin, but in houston we have the Galleria, which features lots of great restaurants, a skating rink, and really cool stores like Fendi and Versace...

Well i don't waste my $$ on designer shit but its fun to look at. The mall is a great way to get to know another person and their values by the way they behave.

Personally, I wouldn't use "shopping" as a way to ask a guy out, but most women won't ask guys out formally anyway. We actually get lots of pressure from our fellow females to be ladylike, ie submissive, and not ask men out...

Also, I believe that it turns some men off to be asked out because of the chase. So maybe shopping was just a safe way for her to ask you out....

Hell, go for it.....take her to the local strip mall. Ya'll can cash some paychecks and pick up your dry cleaning, hehehehehehehe......

One of my favorites is a vegetarian who's anti-materialistic and always wants to do something that's free. Two weeks ago we visited other strip clubs with her dressed like a librarian.... We've been shopping in organic food co-ops and Salvation Army stores, but only for essentials.... The problem I see with the elementary school teacher is that some of them start talking to you like you're in their grade.

I'm going to bring this up whenever you guys swear you aren't prejudiced, lol.

Dating is hell, Richard, but you have to offer some particle of trust if you want to participate. Time wasted over-analyzing someone's motives is time not available for having fun. You can always say no when someone proposes something you don't care for; the lack of commitment is the biggest bonus to dating.

Just spit out $10s instead of $20s. Still in a lot of ways it's pay-to-play (as Fish would say), even outside the SCs.

Prejudiced? Hell no, just hardened and bitter, been burnt one times too many. Seriously, I think of it as being cautious more than anything. I guess I should have also added that I live in Scottsdale, AZ, golddigging capital of the southwest.

I'm on your side Richard. My advice would be to call her on it, bust her balls. Pretty women are used to getting away with murder, and the fact that you won't give in and crumple like every other wuss she's met should make you that much more attractive to her. I would treat this issue the same as if she started talking about problems with other guys or any other type of behavior that she would do with her girlfriends. "I'm not one of your girlfriends. I want to take you to dinner, not shopping for shoes." If she's really a gold digger then she'll show her true colors quickly, and if that's the case you're better off without her.

I would never suggest going shopping with a guy unless we are already in a relationship and even then it would be because I need to get something specific or we both want to go to a certain store, etc. Most guys aren't into shopping and that is the LAST thing I'd suggest for a potential date.

RH do women here really ASK to go shopping? geezus freakin christ!

I love shopping dates. It's especially good for women that are unfamiliar of all the cool places to shop.

I know 100's of really awesome places hidden throughout the city and it's always a joy to take someone unknowing to them so they can freak out over all the cool inventory, great prices and things you just can't find anywhere else. In this context, it's more of a "sharing hidden treasures" thing than shopping.

I do think it's tacky though if she volunteers it- I'd prefer to pop the offer myself, as with most other activities. I think a woman repeatedly volunteering date or hang-out ideas is almost always a sign of the guy slacking in that department. It's preferable to me to almost overload a woman with cool and exciting ideas of things to do, then lead to act/implement the ones with the best reaction.
