Default Freckles! Chemical Peel? Bleaching? Laser? Lotions?

Yes, I already searched on this topic and didn't really find the answers I was looking for.

I'm very very fair skin and I love being pale! I haven't had a tan since I was a child. I still have some freckles on my face from when I was a kid, that just never went away. I've been in florida for the past 6 months and now I've gotten some more freckles. (Yes, I stayed out of the sun. Wore sunscreen when I was in the sun, long sleeves, pants, jacket, floppy hat and sunglasses. This is how much I like to stay pale and freckle-free) But still, a little sun got me and the freckles got a little darker.

I have very smooth and creamy pale skin. I've only had one or two zits my whole life. I've been complimented many times on how clear and porcelain like my skin is (of course I was wearing foundation to cover up the freckles)...

I don't have freckles anywhere else on my body. I don't really need to wear all the makeup I do, but I really *HATE* freckles and I always cover them up. I have a good foundation and know how to cover them up well, so thats not an issue.

I would like to be able to lighten my freckles, so I don't need the foundation during the daytime or when I just casually go out. I'm wondering what the best way would be to do this?

My friend has suggested a chemical peel? But that seems so harsh, especially since I have clear skin, no acne, and pretty sensitive skin. Laser treatments are too expensive. I will be moving back up North (Minnesota) in a month or so, so I'll be away from so much heat and the sun, but I know that I'll have to continue with whatever I use... since my face will still see the sun every once in a while. And freckles will be sure to reappear.

I was thinking the best thing would be to use a whitening lotion. But I'm curious about which one to use and any negative affects? I'm worried about spotting, peeling, uneven tones, or just damaging my skin and making it look worse. I've searched on the internet and they all say the same things and there are so many. Also, I heard of some home remedies - lemon juice, cucumber juice, papaya, etc. Hmm, which I'm wondering if it will even work--since lemon juice is suppose to help lighten your hair in the sun-which never worked for me as a teenager.

Anyway.. Have any of you used any skin lightening creams or lotions for your face to get rid of freckles?

    I'd appreciate any suggestions.

    I pulled this:

    How can freckles be treated?

To treat freckles that are already present, several safe and effective methods are available:

Bleaching creams -- Products containing hydroquinone and kojic acid can be purchased without a prescription. Higher concentrations of hydroquinone (over 2%) require a prescription. These products can lighten freckles if they are applied consistently over a period of months.
Tretinoin -- Sometimes used in conjunction with other bleaching creams, tretinoin (vitamin A acid, Retin-A) also helps to make freckles lighter when applied over a period of time.
Cryosurgery -- A light freeze with liquid nitrogen can be used to treat freckles.
Laser treatment -- Several lasers, especially ones that produce a green light, can lighten and eliminate freckles safely and effectively. Like cryosurgery, this is a simple and safe procedure with a high success rate and a low risk of scarring.

    Hope it helps.

    I wish I could!

I've been told by ex-boyfriends that they are cute...but I hate them. When I was a little kid, I used to spend hours in the bathroom scrubbing my face until it was chapped to get rid of them. I'd try to make up concoctions to make them disappear. I've always obsessed about them. I'm glad I've found a good foundation..but I want to feel pretty without the foundation. And with freckles, it makes me feel ugly. I'm hoping that I can find something to make them fade or go away.

Bleaching products over the counter will work, but use them everyday, with a sunscreen over them. Also Retin A has been known to "fade" certain freckles or spots. Most important with any bleaching cream or prescription Retin A is the sunscreen.

Me i have less freckles then i did as a kid, really. I use Retin A maybe once a week, and a strong sunscreen during the day, and at NIGHT... I am hooked on sunscreen.

Also there are great products out to use with these products that reflect light and make the skin appear very light! Nivea has one out now. And another trick, try (with bleaching) a light creamy shade of lipstick applied on the cheek and nose area! Not white, but almost, and creamy, kinda like a light pearl colour. I use this instead of foundation at times, my skin looks sooooo creamy smooth, and no freckles. Although i have some from the skin, i learned to use tricks with treating the problem.

    Good luck,

    pamela

well, I dont really have a magic foundation. I use maybelline foundation with spf15. When I dance I use this foundation mixed with another slightly darker foundation (that I left the cap of of, so it could "thicken"). I dabb and blend over the freckles, then I use a light face powder that matches my skin tone, and put that over. Making sure to lightly wipe off the excess powder from my nose and jaw-line so it looks smooth. This works really well, and noone even knows I have freckles. It also doesnt look too heavy on my face either. Most people dont even know that I have foundation on. Its just really important to make sure the foundation and powder match your skin and don't look clumpy on.

I bought the Porcelana product for skin fading yesterday and left it on last night when I went to bed. My face is a little pink today. I'm not sure if thats normal because of a little irriation and that will go away. I'm not sure if i should keep using it. My face isnt that irritated really, not peeling or burning or anything.. just a looks a little flushed. I'm debating of using it again tonight or not.
::yes, I'm still bruised and sore::

DANCING.. i believe they can laser them off for a decent price. My friend had it done..(ill have to ask her more about it)
You dont want to wear all that makeup to cover it up..

although freckles are sexy, so dont do too many sessions.
go to a dermentologist and ask them, its not that expensive.
Think of all the money you wasted trying to find a foundation that covers up your beautiful face!

I think freckles are cute. But if you really want to get rid of them, a series of Foto Facial/Intense Pulsed Light treatments at your dermatologist's office will do the trick. And wear a high-factor sunblock every day.

Dancing Doll, I have used the cream you mentioned, and a few others as well. Althought i was not consistent with them, i never had any red to my face the day after. I'd maybe test it again on your arm or something to make sure.

Lasers are the best way if you're light-skinned.

If you don't stay out of the sun and use good sun protection, they'll come right back, so think about your lifestyle before making a commitment to laser (it can be expensive). It would suck to wash your $$$ dwon the drain because you didn't wear sunscreen. Even if you're not tanning, not wearing sunscreen as your daily habit can make them come back (true with any other medthod of removal). A friend of mine got her freckles removed (laser), and didn't wear a sunscreen (didn't really tan either. Just from day-today activities). Two years later, her freckles are back (not as bad, but they're back).

If they're light, microdermabrasion CAN sometimes lighten them.

Mine are kind of light. I dont think they are dark enough to need a whole series of lasars so im gonna check into it. I could dedicate myself to applying a good sunscreen everyday. If i am able to, do you think they have a good chance of staying away. I would also use a little bit of makeup on top, but not a whole lot. Would that affect it? And what are the price ranges for lasers and micro dermoabrasions? I tried a web search ,but skins creams and the definition of freckles keep popping up. =/

    OK...the facts.

    1. Bleaching creams don't work. You can try 4% Hydroquinones til your blue but I've never seen any difference. Same with Kojic acid.

    2. Chemical peels don't penetrate deeply enough. Well thats not entirely true. Typical Glycolic acid and lower concentration TCA peels don't go deeply enough. They are fine for minor pigmentary things, textural changes, adult onset acne...but typically not freckles which are in the deepest layer of the dermis. 35% TCA or phenol would likely do the trick. Phenol peels are not done often due to some potential cardiac toxicity.

    3. Laser works well and the biggest side effect is hypopigmentation which isn't an issue for someone as pale as you are. Its quick, maybe a little skin blistering but not bad, and should be fairly cheap (for just a few freckles).

Thanks Plastics Doc!! I am glad finally someone said that bleaching creams don't work. I thought it was just me! I've looked into it some and I think the only way to do it is the Phenol Chemical Peels. Sounds tough, but it's a hell of a lot better than having freckles. I'm COVERED with them and I HATE them. Everyone always tells me they're "fresh" and "cute" and "sexy." But I'm fresh and cute and sexy when I like myself, not when I'm covered in goddamned freckles. They're worse than acne, I imagine. (I've never gotten pimples, but at least they're treatable)

I just had one question, since black lights emit UV rays (or whatever they emit) wouldn't that be the same as going out into the sun with sunscreen on? I've noticed a couple freckles on my legs develop since I started dancing, and I haven't gone swimming/worn shorts so I'm thinking it might be the black lights. Would it referse the effects of a chemical peel do you think?

How did the phenol chemical peel work? Did you go to your dermotologist? What is the price range for my whole face?
