    Default Hair Treatment!

I use a few different types of treatments in my hair, some actual store-bought treatments, some are Make Yourself stuff. I use TINY amounts of olive oil, once a month. the oil is also GREAT in a bath for your skin now and then... I use cocoa butter-type lotions 2 times a month, and hot oil treatments 2 times a month as well.

Anyone have any other favorites or horror stories?

VO5 Hot Oil Treatment is affordable and good for average hair. The special products for African- American hair can work well too, depending on you needs.
I tried Biolage Hair Restructurer..way too heavy. There's a product called "KLS" which is similar but lighter.

Horror story- I put Vaseline in my hair once. I gooped it on, figured it would moisturize then I could just wash it out. Nuh-uh. It was in for like a month, even after washing with Tide! Granted, my hair looked pretty and shiny and laid flat, but it felt like...it was slathered in Vaseline. Don't do that.

Eggs...beat them up and then rub into your hair. Leave on until completely dry and then rinse. Amazing.

I also only wash my hair 1 or 2 times per week. The other days, I take a natural bristle brush and gently brush my hair from scalp to ends each morning and night. It helps distribute natural oils and keeps the hair from looking oily too quickly.

Pretty much any type of cooking oil i will pull through my strands. Olive oil is my best. I also mix (now, new trick i heard of) a quarter size conditioner (because my hair is long) and a dime size oil with 6 ounces of water. Spray on dry hair for an extra condition. looks good, drys with shine, and my ends love it! You have to play with the amounts for the length of your hair however. This also will tame frizz!!!!!

1-2 times a week. Wow, i guess my hair can get pretty oily fast, because i just barely can wash my hair every other day without it feeling gross to me.

I found that when I didn't brush my hair well, it looked oily and greasy. BUT, if I thoroughly brushed my hair morning and night...it kept the oil dispersed. If I am going out somewhere...of course I wash my hair...but if I am just around the house, I don't bother. It dries my hair out way too much. Also...I'll wash my hair before work and then when I get home to get the smell out...

Blonde hair looks dirty fast. I have to wash mine at least every other day. I usually wash daily, but if you oversleep or want to skip a day, powder your roots with baby powder and brush. It soaks up the oil instantly and also covers darker roots.

Olive oil is great if you have time, but for commercial conditioners, John Frieds Beach Blonde (the JAR, not the bottle) intensive conditioner is good.

The best hair product ever IMO is John Frieda frizz-ease serum. I buy the large bottles at Target

One hair product I simply can not live with out it is BioSilk's silk therapy. It's a clear oil type product that makes your hair soooooo shiny and soft. There are not many beauty products I really like but this is one I can't go a day without. I use it every night after I take my shower. It's also good to use before you blow dry your hair (which I don't do that often). This stuff works great. I get so many compliments about how shiny and healthy my hair looks.

Giovanni's White Line is the most amazing thing ever.

Their leave-in Direct conditioner with a drop or two of jojoba oil works wonders for me. I have hair down to my waist, and I have no split ends whatsoever. I only get a trim every 6 months.

I love their Golden Wheat shampoo, followed by 50/50 Remoisturizer (Nutrafixx on weekends).
I also use their silicone spray and spray conditioner between washings for detangling. I only wash my hair about twice a week.

I've never gotten more compliments about my hair then after I started to use thier product.

Call them if you want to order larger sizes (liter/gallon). It's not on the site but they will sell it to you.

Any ideas for baby fine hair? Mine is long and baby fine, slightly wavy. I have to use a relaxer before I blow it out straight. It is also oily. Anybody have any suggestions?

I know baby fine hair looks great with layers for a fuller look! Also about having oily hair, start off with a shampoo daily. One made for oily hair. Condition from the middle of the hair down, never the scalp area, the conditioner will cause the cuticle near the scalp to lie flat maybe heavy as well. If you get oily during late day, use a tad of any kind of powder that is not coloured on your roots, rub it in lightly, and brush out! This will absorb any oil that is not wanted without harming the hair. Face powder works well, as does baby powder if you can stand the smell!

    Good luck,

To give my hair a fuller look, "root lift" I put a little Physique brand (drugstore brand) thickener, then when damp put a pony tail w/hair clip at top of head. Also, if I do the same but put in a bun for a while, that works.

My midwife suggested for healthy hair using a product called Netels (not sure on the spelling of it) its a plant that you should be able to get at any organic or natural store, i haven't tried it myself yet, but i'm going to next week probably. if anyone has used this before let me know how it works

My hair stylist told me a while ago that those hot oil treatments are really bad for your hair... This olive oil treatment... so you use it after conditioner and then rinse it out?

I have heard that oils should Not be used in any but the driest, coarsest hair. Have also been told they tend to pull color (dye) out.

Scarlett, i can't believe it - I thought I was the only one who did this! I was young, watching a music video where there was a really cool super-slicked hairdo, I didn't know gel existed, and thought I could recreate it with Vaseline. After trying to wash my hair out a bunch of times, I finally had to ask my Mom for help. We started with the Ivory dish soap, which did nothing, and ended up scrubbing with the laundry detergent. I felt like a greaseball for the longest time!

I just love my Giovanni Organic (also known as White line) hair care product. Take a look at their website. You can also gind them at health food stores (sometimes) or you can order it online. I have very coarse, dry hair, but my boyfriend has very baby-fine hair, and he loves the hair care line (uses different products).

If you have fine hair, use the 50/50 balanced shampp and Smooth as Silk conditioner. For a leave-in (if you need it), use Vita Pro Fusion. This stuff is amazing.
