Default Help! Interview in Richmond, VA!!!

Ok guys I found this help wanted ad in the Richmond Times-Dispatch and it seems perfect for me since I want to start out waitressing or hopefully bartending:
Waitresses, Doormen & Bartenders for gentlemen's club. Needed Immed. Willing to train. Evening hrs

It says the employer is the Platinum Club which I'm pretty sure is now called Paper Moon. My questions are: What is the environment at this club like? Are the patrons upscale? Do you think they would hire a 22 year old as a bartender even if she had very little bartending experience? Sorry for all the questions but I'm a little nervous and I like to be prepared.

    Greetings.
I have worked with the papermoon off and on for 7 years now in a few of the clubs.Hope i can answer some of your questions.
Yes the Platinum is now called the papermoon.Same owners of both clubs.
They are always looking for quality people for all positions.(except dj i hope )and i think they are looking for people now,we are starting our busy season again.
The enviorment is very upscale. Its by far the nicest club in the city. Its downtown so you get alot of suit and tie, travelers, and west end money people.
I would say it has the most upper end money people in the city, with the southside having more blue collar workers.I work at both but prefere the southside. It was the first in the chain,The Mothership!
Yes they will hire a 22 year old.lol
it seems thats the around the average age of most of the females in this industry.
As far as getting the bartender slot right off,im not really sure.We have some killer bartenders now with some really good waitresses who are waiting like a vulture for a shift to pop open.
We just had a young lady join us thats on this forum.DCFOXXX i think is the forum name.Maybe she can tell you how its been for her in her first week or so.

Come on in and ask for Jeramy. He is the GM and one of the best i have seen in awhile.he will give you no bullshit answers to your questions and fill you in on all the details.

If you come on board, try to work wed thru sat. Those are the best shifts.

Good luck!Stop by the dj booth and say Hi!

Thanks BigGreen! Prettykitty - do apply and don't be nervous. This is a very nice atmosphere, very upscale, and everyone working there really made me feel welcome. Not to mention it has the best music mix in town thanks to BigGreenMnM!;-> Best of luck and hope to see you there!

Thank you soooooo much BigGreen and DC! Do you happen to know when a good time to come in for an interview would be? Or should I just call first to arrange a time?

If you call during the day,ask for Karen. She can help with everything you need.
If you call at night, they prob wont be able to talk as long because its busy.

I would either call during the day or just show up at night to fill out an application.

Thanks for all the info Big Green! I just have to bug you with one more question. What should I wear to go in for an interview? Do waitresses wear what they want or is it normal club attire? And do I have to wear high heels? I know you're a guy so this may not be up your alley Maybe DC could weigh in with some info? Thanks guys!

For the interview you should dress to impress as in any interview.
Go with conservative sexy, avoid goth or grunge.

The waitresses wear black skorts.(shorts and skirt combo thingy's)with a backless female tuxedo shirt w/bowtie.2-3 inch heel ,black ,closed toe shoe.
lol thats the way its supposed to be but chit happens sometimes and i often see girls out of uniform.

Im not working tonight, but will be at the southside moon tomorrow night.Come on in and ask for Bud the mgr or me in the dj booth. We can at least give ya the free tour.

Not sure if they're hiring right now (they told me they were not hiring - I worked there for 2 nights and they told me they didn't need anymore waitresses and they didn't need me to work anymore). I had originally been hired on the spot as a waitress by a mgr. that no longer works there, so when I showed up to work they weren't sure if that waitress job he offered me was really open or not - at least that was the story I was given. Were you applying for a dancer position as well? They told me they didn't have any of those either. I'm not sure if it's b/c they didn't like me or b/c this was really true. In either case, I liked the place and the dancers were nice to me- I was very disappointed to have to leave! Not sure exactly what the deal was with all of this...so I hope you have better luck than I did. if you go to fill out an application just wear business casual I would guess - a nice shirt and pants. You don't have to wear anything fancy to an interview. Waitresses at the Paper Moon wear halter top tuxedo shirts with a black bow tie and either a black skirt or pants - heels or flats, whatever is more comfortable for you. You don't have to wear high heels. Best of luck to you because I didn't have much luck there unfortunately. I tried though that's for sure! Send me a private message and we can talk about being newbies!

I dont think you should give up so easy DC.
Its got to be one of the top waitress spots in town for money so the comp is tough at times. But it changes often so keep trying!!!!!

Thanks BigGreen! Maybe I will try back in a few months and things will work out better! If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Right now I'd better lay low b/c I feel like all they tell me is no - so bugging them will not work. It makes me feel like they didn't like me - but hey I know I gave it my best shot! Might try back in the Spring...if ya think I have a chance!

Even though he rejected me the other week and told me they didn't have any waitress or dancer positions available? If you think it's worth a shot for me to talk to him again I definitely will but I don't want to seem like a dork since he already told me no! lol

Hi guys thanks for the advice. I spoke with an older sounding guy on the phone today and he said they were definitely hiring for waitresses and that I should come after 7 tonight. I'm not sure what happened DC, maybe it's the particular location you were at?? I'm going to interview at the downtown location, not sure if this even makes a difference . I'm getting a little nervous now, I had no idea it was so competitive! I'll definitely let you guys know how it goes tonight though

Well I worked at both locations and they told me they didn't need me for either! But maybe they just didn't need anyone for the nights I was available to work. Anyway - good luck Pretty and tell me how it goes!

Ok so I went and everyone was really nice. I had to fill out an application (which seemed strange) Then I talked to a manager named Dennis and he said that they had recently brought in new management so they were trying to do things differently now. So anyway I filled out the app and he said they'd give me a call...that part didn't sound too good. But when I left the bouncer asked me how it went and when I told him they said they'd call me he said don't worry they'll definitely call you. So now I'm confused, I don't know if this was a runaround or standard hiring practice???

I don't know - were you applying to be a waitress/bartender or dancer? If you were applying to be a dancer I was wondering if they asked if you wanted to audition then. Other than that I hope they call you. In my experience I was hired on the spot and told to come to work the following Sunday. They still had me fill out an application though. I don't know if they have any standard hiring practices on that b/c when I was there the mgmt. seemed very stressed out and unsure of any type of protocol. Good luck and PM me anytime if you wanna chat.
