Default Never Worked in Vegas? What to expect.

I repeatedly see posts on here regarding working in Las Vegas. So I thought I would give you a post on what to expect and how to go about dealing with it.

Vegas is not a place to just "pop in" and work a few days if you've never worked there before.

Many girls who have never worked there hear rumors that there is a lot of money to be made. This business has dropped off in every city in the country and Vegas is no exception.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you want to experience the city and have never been there by all means it should be done and here is how you do it:

Allow 2 weeks minimum to be in town. Arrange to get in town on a Monday afternoon. It may take you several days to get hired SOMEWHERE, and a day to get your sheriffs's card and business license, so allow for that. Remember, the big Vegas clubs have LOTS of dancers and don't need you, so they can hire or not hire at their own whim. Expect some runaround getting hired. All the clubs are ethnically diverse there so if you are black or hispanic, you will have plenty of company.

If you are not driving, I would suggest reserving a rental car so you can easily get around.

Get an extended stay suite at Budget, Emerald Suites, or Extended Stay America. I recommend Emerald suites in the 9100 block of S.Las vegas Blvd, or at Tropicana and Valley View. They will run about $275 or so per week, or Budget Suites on Industrial Blvd or on Tropicana west of Valley View, or Extended Stay America on Valley View across from the Rio. Budget may be around $250 per week, a little higher your first week.

These suites have full kitchens and a full bedroom.

Get a weeks worth of groceries.

You all know you need to get a sheriff's card. If you are under 25 have your birth certificate with you. All others your ID from any state will do,and have your ss card.

To get a sheriffs card you must be hired at a club first. This is where the run around comes in. Sapphire's auditions around 6:30, Olympic Garden is iffy and they hire whenever they want. Cheetah's is easier to get in. It is best to go in around 9:30PM and ask for Ski, who is the general manager. If he likes your looks he will give you the referral slip and if he hires you you can work any shift. If other shift managers hire you, you must work on their shift.

Jaguars hires around 9PM. Spearmint Rhino the same but they are nitpicky beyond belief. If you lack a boob job forget night shift. They pick a shift for you and that is what you must work. The 3AM-9 is ok. If they will only hire you for the afternoon shift, take the referral slip so you can get your card, but I would just pop in here and there to work. The business is iffier on that shift.

At Crazy Horse, go at 1PM, 9PM, or 5AM and talk to the manager. It is hit or miss getting hired here.

For Glitter Gulch downtown, just go in during the afternoon or evening and talk to a manager.

Cheetah's may be easier to get into so I would go there first. Remember, you HAVE to have a referral slip form a club to get your sheriff's card. Once you have that you can work anywhere.

I am not sure the hiring hours at Pleasures or Strip Tease. Just go in and take it from there.

Go to Cameron and Russell to get your sheriffs card. Be there at 8. Plan on being there several hours.

As soon as you get your card, drive up to Las Vegas Blvd North and Washington, turn right and go to 555 E.Washington, #1300, (the building is on the north side of the street) and get your business license. This will cost you $100 cash or check. They will give you a copy of the paperwork and mail the license. You should be out of here within 20 minutes and a hour.

Go make several copies of your business license to give to any club(s) you have been hired at and go to work.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    WORKING THE BIG VEGAS CLUBS

For those of you who are used to being in a laid back medium sized club where you are poplular, have a DJ who speaks up for you and pushes the crowd to tip and buy dances, and some of the customers approach you for dances, don't expect that here.

Dancers, bouncers, waitstaff and DJ's are here for the same reason you are and that is to tap into the tourist market. Tourists have more disposable income than locals in an average city and everyone you work with is "on the take".

The average age of the nighttime out of town strip club patron in Las Vegas is dropping and many of the customers are under 30 years old, and come to the clubs in groups. These same types of customers you tend to avoid in your hometown club tend to be the majority here, especially on weekends.

And unlike your hometown club where they sit at the tip rail and you have an aggressive DJ pushing them to tip, that does not happen here. The DJ's are silent, stage tips are low (with some exceptions) and the guys have a lot of eye candy prancing around on the floor.

At $20 per dance and up, these guys are very particular who they spend their money on and you will find MANY customers who will be flat out rude to you and tell you to get lost, you're not my type, turn their head when you try to talk to them, or talk to you in a condescending manner.

Some nights you will have more girls than customers, and at best as many girls as customers.

In this type of environment it is not uncommon for 30 girls to have approached on guy and when you make #31, the guys are not overjoyed to see you either.

Guys have been hustled hard by girls here and overcharged or given a poor dance, so many guys have their guard up and you have to break that guard to sell them.

Some nights you may not get your payout back. Some nights you may clear $500 or $1000. Making $200 after payouts can be a chore many nights. You have intense competition here and lots of the girls look good, so no matter how pretty you feel you are I guarantee you that there are plenty other girls on the floor who look just as good or better than you do, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the customers are the beholders.

Bouncers many times EXPECT a tip everytime you go in VIP and the amount you tip at home most likely will be scoffed at here.

Don't tip well each time you go to VIP, and the bouncer may be a pain in the ass while you are dancing for your customer and make your customer angry.

A bouncer may bump you from a table you are sitting at with a customer if the club is busy and he was tipped to seat a large party at the door.

Bottom line is you have to be a good palm greaser and get known and in good (by tipping well) to the staff so you will be cut enough slack to do well.

Staff includes housemoms AND in some clubs managers. Both of these people can be the determining factor in letting you work on a shift where they already have too many girls.

You had better be a good floorworker and salesperson. YOU MUST approach everyone here and not let rejection bother you. Guys have A LOT of girls to choose from and only so much money to spend.

If you find a good customer, be VERY careful leaving the table even to go to the bathroom. When you leave another girl will be at his side seeing if he wants her instead of you, or if he wants 2 girls.

Remember, everyone else is here to make more money than they do at home just like you are, aren't they?

Besides Club Paradise, gowns are not worn. Booty shorts and short dresses are more common.

You have to work aggressively, not skip customers and know how to sell to work here.

Eyecatching or bright costumes are a plus here so you stand out in the crowd. I would not recommend black.

You must be alert on the floor here.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to coordinate a Dancer Wealth seminar with your trip here. Working a few days in a club BEFORE the seminar would be best, that way you could ask questions pertaining to problems you experienced in the clubs here.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is definately a learning curve in working big Vegas clubs.

That is why I say a 2 week trip minimum is not as long as it sounds, and that is why I recommend an extended stay apt over a motel room and a car.

Hmmm as a customer, I have to say Tina nailed it.

    Excellent post Tina.

Only thing I would add is that Vegas is moving away from it's failed attempt at family fun and going back to it's adult origins which may improve the SC money.

You dont need to get hired first in many of the clubs to get a referral slip, just go to most of them and they freely give out the referral because that doesnt mean they are actually hiring you. When I first came to Vegas, I went in to Club Paradise and just asked for the referral as did about 10 other girls I know at other clubs. Most clubs dont care about handing out the referrals because they generally dont audition you until you have both the business license and the sheriffs card and you already need to have the referral to have these two things. Where I work now at The Crazy Horse Too the managers hire on a immediate basis half the time meaning that you go there at the beginning of the shirt you want to work with your sheriffs card and license and audition and if you are hired you generally start on the spot. They really arent interested in auditioning girls who dont have everything they need and a referral from one club doesnt mean you cant work at the others. Also I dont totally agree with the comment about wearing black at all because Vegas is so high hustle that it isnt the outfit by any means that sells the most dances here, it is the ability of the personality of the girl to convince the guy to get a dance from her. Neither me nor any of my other friends make money based on an outfit being black or not. Its all about the hustle. I actually do very well in black at the Crazy Horse where many girls wear bright outfits. Also when you are working with 200 other girls 50% have bright outfits on anyway, so nobody ever stands out based on a particular outfit at my club. The only time any girl totally stood out was when a girl came in with a complete cop costume and she did well based on attention from the outfit. Vegas still has a lot of money in it and I think it is a great place to work if a high hustle enviroment is not uncomfortable for you. It is pretty easy in the last couple or weeks to pull in at least 500 on friday and sat night and many girls make well over 1000, it has picked up a lot at my club in the last month or so. I like working here a lot and I think that it is worth a try to come out here and give it a shot. Most of the clubs are oversaturated with girls right now especially since Treasures closed and many girls come in on weekends from Cali and other places in the fall since we are getting into the busier season, but looks and personality go a long way here so a girl with enthusiasm and personality to boot usually does pretty well here.

wow...really? i had no idea clubs in atlanta were like that. vegas is still worth it. it's just a lot of hit and miss, but i have never done a $10 lap dance. our vip is $300 a half hour (unless you talk the guy into giving you more). are $10 lap dances easier to sell? do you make money pretty fast like that?

The hustle is different you cant just ask a guy for a dance your hustle is the VIP rooms . and even then you have to at least talk to them for a minute before asking about the rooms.....lol So I ussually only do a few dances a night it is all sitting in VIP that you make money in ATL.... gain alot of weight LOL That is why I am going to vegas

As a San Francisco area native, I haven't gone to a local club in years, and nowadays, the only time I go to strip clubs are when I visit Vegas a couple of times a year. A lot of the reason why is mentioned above: I'm under 30, and in SF, I get ignored most of the time unless I go with a big group of friends. Also, it's true I've got less money than I'd like to spend, and by saving up for Vegas, I can go to a club with a couple of hundred, if not more, to spend.

I also do my best to teach my buddies some proper strip club ettiquite. The biggest thing I tell my friends when I take them to clubs (I seem to hang out with younger guys, and have helped several bust their strip club cherries) is that when they sit up at the bar, to have a bunch of singles (or bigger, depending on the club) to tip, and to at least tip a dollar a song (More if they really like the girl or her dance). It can eat into money quickly, but It's only right.

I have a friend who just moved to LA to try and pursue acting, and she drives to Las Vegas to work when she can.
I asked her how the money was, and she said very unpredictable. She's only had two good nights since she's been out there. One she made 1,000 and the other she made 800. Both of these nights she said she got lucky and found a good customer. The other nights she either left with an average amount of money (about 400) or even less. Sometimes as low as $80.
She's a very pretty girl, in GREAT shape, who also does professional modelling from time to time.
Also, she told me that most clubs there can run up to 200+ girls a night, which made it next to impossible to hit high dollar amounts. Sometimes that means there are more girls than customers in the club, and she's been around to most of the clubs in the area.
So it appears as though the rumors of too many girls making it impossible to make money in Vegas are true. She said it was way obvious that the customers were overwhelmed/bothered by so many girls approaching them.

    Hi Tina,
Thanx for the post. I have a couple of questions about Vegas. I worked at Crazy Horse Too in 2000 for a brief time. The manager asked for my sherriff's card and instead of making a copy of it I gave him the original. My question is...how long is a sherriff's card valid? Is it easy to get a duplicate copy? A business license wasn't needed in 2000, do I get one at the same location I would get a sherriff's card? Thank you much, FD xo

The Sheriff's cards are good for 5 years....but I vaguely recall CH2 getting raided by the feds in 2001 or 2002. You may want to call ahead to see if they still have your card on file. I think all records were confiscated, and I remember some girlfriends bitching that they had to go get another card.

Excellent post! Vegas is an extremely tough hustle.
If a club hires you, and you don't work 4 days in a row, they will usually put you on a slow shift where it is nearly impossible to make any money. It does not matter how good your sales are or how beautiful you are, these managers want your money.
Most of the clubs will tell you that they have way more dancers applying to work than they need. Remember, they make the most money off of the dancers who pay top dollar up front fees and off stage fees. Those are the dancers that get top priority for the best shifts. If you pay a lot of money to the bouncers, housemoms and DJ's, that's still no garuntee that your going to make money. Most of those people get a base of at least $100.00. Many times they make more than a lot of the dancers.
Even on bad nights where many dancers don't make enough to cover their up front house fee, there will always be at least one or two dancers who get lucky and meet the right guy.

Dancing in Vegas is a lot like going to the casino. Some people make a lot of money, some people lose money and some just barely break even with maybe a little bit of a profit.
Most people prefer to believe their leaders are just and fair even in the face of evidence to the contrary, because once a citizen acknowledges that the government under which they live is lying and corrupt, the citizen has to choose what he or she will do about it. - M Rivero

Excellent post Tina! So many girls think you can go to Vegas and easily make $500-1000 a night, and that's not the case. I haven't danced in Vegas yet, but I'm planning on going there in February. I know I'm going to have to hustle extremely well and put up with a lot of rude guys and rejections to make decent money, but I'm going to try my hardest.

It sounds like an exciting challenge. I just have to make sure I'm in top form when I go in. My friend worked at CH2 when she was body building competition ready. She wasn't all buff of anything, just very toned and fit. She says she banked and this girl is NOT a good hustler.....

also, a lot of girls from UTAH come to Vegas during big conventions. Many times there are so many girls in a club that a lot of them are just standing around despite all the guests in the club. Although during the slow seasons (summer mostly) there are few girls - and they are all standing around because there are only a handful of guests in the club.
