Ok.. I went for an interview today at PetsMart. They're hiring for a groomer. They also do pet adoptions from the area shelters. They house cats up for adoption there, which is a great thing. We adopted two cats from there 3 years ago. More on that later.
So.. The interview went well and I was hired on the spot. I start on the 25th. Weee! I wanted something low-stress. I've been on many interviews this week and offered positions at them all (Fleet Bank, Bankers Life & Casualty, a local Law Firm that was looking for a secretary). It's weird how I jumped right on this one. It seems like it's going to be so fun! I love working with animals and I've always had such a strong bond with ALL types (yes, even my skunks.. lol).
Alright.. So, I finished up my interview and paperwork. I decided to take a stroll through the shelter area to look at the cats. I stopped DEAD in my tracks when I heard this all too "familiar" (GCG will get that) purring. It was coming from the cage at the very end. I immediately ran to it. There was MY Damian! We adopted Damian from that very same place (he had come from the Providence Animal Rescue League--One of the remaining pets from the infamous Warwick Condo Animal Hoarder---in 2000. We loved him more than anything in the world. Of course, when Delia came, Damian was very very curious (and JEALOUS!). He had hopped into her bassinet right as I was standing there (with her in it!), and he had also developed a very bad attitude, hissing and clawing. My husband and I had to make the very heartbreaking decision to find Damian a new home. We couldn't risk something happening to the baby. I cried for days. We eventually had exhausted all of our efforts of trying to find him a new home. So, we took him back to PARL and told them the whole story. They assured us that Damian would find the best home. He was adopted out to a family in Providence. The bio on his crate at PetsMart says that he was found wandering the streets, weaving in and out of yards, near our OLD APARTMENT! He was trying to find his way home! One of the employees of the place saw him and brought him to work with her. My new boss saw me staring at the cage. So I asked him if he could take the cat out so I could look at him (I wanted to be sure). He did, and Damian snuggled up to me like he always did. He's my cat for sure. I gave them his history, and his name (They had some other weird name that they had chosen for him). Have you ever wished that you could do something but your hands were so tied? We can't have pets here, but I'm seriously contemplating taking him home and hiding him here. I just feel that he came back for a reason, and he's meant to stay with us. We're trying to convince my mother to take him for us, so that we'll know where he is.
I'm just beside myself here, and I really needed to get this out. I regret giving him up, but I felt there was no other option. Delia was here to stay, and we had to protect her.
The good thing is that my boss said that they won't adopt him out until we decide what we're doing. I explained the situation to him, and explained how much this cat means to us. So keep your fingers and toes crossed that we can convince someone we know to take him for us.
Anyhoo. I'm rambling, so I'll stop. LOL
Some pics are below. One is Damian alone, and the other is Damian and Mena. Mena is a kitten that we had adopted at the same place, but we couldn't train her. Damian had "adopted" her from day one, and he acted as a surrogate to her. It was so adorable. She went to my sister's, who had other cats that she could play with, and she was eventually trained.
