    Default Best Break Up Songs?

"Music hath charms to soothe a savage beast"-Shakespeare.

As for a brokenhearted beast, favorite songs to mope and sniffle to when Love goes wrong:

"Bent out of shape" by the Replacements (All Shook Down, 1991) "I smell your hair/the clothes you wear/I miss your face/ can't you see I'm bent out of shape...you wanna be a dancer/and I'm on my last leg/ call again tommorrow/ call again today....and my friends all say it shows it shows/ and I don't care who knows/and that feels good/ what made me feel great" (Paul Westerberg)

"Ordinary World" Duran Duran "Papers in the roadside tell of suffering and grief/ feared today, forgot tommorrow/ here beside the news of holy war and holy me/ ours is just a little sorrow"

"Same Old Scene" Roxy Music "Nothing lasts forever..."

"I hate myself for loving you" Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

"Everything About You" by Ugly Kid Joe.

I, hate the rain and sunny weather
And I, hate the beach and moutains too
(and) I don't like a thing about the city, no, no
And I, I, I, hate the country side too!

And I, hate everything about you!
    ...everything about you!

I don't like a thing about your mother
And I, I hate your daddy's guts too
I, don't like a thing about your sister
'cause I, I, I, think sex is overrated too.

And I, get sick when I'm around, I, can't stand to be around
    I, hate everything about you!

everything about you, everything about you, everything about
    you

Some say I got a bad attitude
But that don't change the way I feel about you
And if you think this might be bringing me down
Look again cause I ain't wearin' no frown!

I don't really care about your sister
Fuck the little bitch 'cause I already kissed her

One thing that I did to your lady
Put her on the bed and she didn't say maybe
I know you know everybody knows
The way it comes, the way it's gonna' go

    You think it's sad
    And that's too bad
    'cause I'm havin'
    A ball hatin'
    Every little thing about you!

    Everything about you, everything about
I get sick when I'm around
I can't stand to be around
    I hate everything about you

My ex boyfriend claimed Smokey Robinson's "Tracks of my Tears" was the best break up song.
Actually what sucks too is songs that remind you of your ex....your ex can ruin so many things for you still without trying..LOL......remember what Adam Sandler told his ex in "The Wedding Singer"? He told her to "take off that Van Halen tee shirt" before she made them break up...LOL....

Personally, I go for simplicity: "The Breakup Song" by Greg Kihn.

We had broken up for good just an hour before (Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah)
And now I'm staring at the bodies as they're dancing 'cross the floor
(Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah)
And then the band slowed the tempo, and the music gets you down
(Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah)
It was the same old song, with a melancholy sound (Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah)

    CHORUS:
They don't write 'em like that anymore
They just don't write 'em like that anymore

We'd been living together for a million years (Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah)
But now it feels so strange out of the atmospheres (Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah)
And then the jukebox plays a song I used to know (Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah)
And now I'm staring at the bodies as they're dancing so slow
(Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah)

    CHORUS

Now I'm winding up staring at an empty glass (Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah)
Cause it's so easy to say that you'll forget your past
(Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah)

They don't write 'em like that anymore
No, they just don't write 'em like that anymore
Oh, they don't write 'em like that anymore
They just don't write 'em like that anymore
They just don't, no they don't, no no, uh-uh,
They just don't write 'em like that anymore

Big Green- I like GnR's "Used to love her" but I don't know if it counts as a traditional break-up song.....it's funny though, like Eminem's "Cleaning out my closet."

"Narcissus" Alanis Morrisette (I think that's it)
    "F*ck It" -Eamon
    and therefore,
"F*ck U Right Back" -Frankee (the reply)
"Strip Her Down" -Cold (off their ST CD)
    "This Love" -Pantera
"Blame It On Your Lyin, Cheatin Heart" -Patty Loveless
ANYTHING Tori Amos. Early, later, doesn't matter.

I'm an angry breakup kinda girl. I like to feel grateful that I got rid of them, whoever he/she may be. Don't get me wrong, I screw up alot. But it's easier for me to think I'm the best thing they're ever gonna lose. Makes it easier to understand that I'm not going to be alone forever, cause if I think I'm great, why wouldn't someone else think so, too?
And yes, I know that's alot of genres. I like every kind of music.

Wow. Berlin and Soft Cell "B" sides. 80's retro has taken on a whole new dimension.

Please shoot me if some lost Tiffany or Debbie Gibson B-side resurfaces.

Not really a breakup song, but it's got a good melancholy break-up style verse in it.

    Jackson Browne:

When you see through love's illusion, there lies the danger
And your perfect lover just looks like a perfect fool
So you go running off in search of the perfect stranger
And the loneliness seems to spring from your life
Like a fountain from a pool
Fountain of sorrow, fountain of life

    And so on.

Song for the Dumped - Ben Folds Five

    So you wanted
    to take a break
    Slow it down some and
    have some space
    Well fuck you too
    Give me my money back
    Give me my money back
    you bitch
    I want my money back
    (And don't forget to give
    me back my black T-Shirt)
Wish I hadn't bought you dinner
    Right before you dumped me
    on your front porch
    Give me my money back
    Give me my money back
    You bitch
    I want my money back
    and don't forget
    And don't forget.
