Yup, that's why the song came to mind. I listened to his morning show on KFOX til I moved from San Jose a couple of years ago.

Dear momma's boy I know you've had your butt licked by your mother
I know you've enjoyed all that attention from her
And every woman graced with your presence after
Dear narcissus boy I know you've never really apologized for anything
I know you've never really taken responsibility
I know you've never really listened to a woman

Dear me-show boy I know you're not really into conflict resolution
Or seeing both sides of every equation
    Or having an uninterrupted conversation

    And any talk of healthiness
    And any talk of connectedness
And any talk of resolving this
Leaves you running for the door

(why why do I try to love you
Try to love you when you really don't want me
    To)

Dear egotist boy you've never really had to suffer any consequence
You've never stayed with anyone longer than ten minutes
You'd never understand anyone showing resistance
Dear popular boy I know you're used to getting everything so easily
A stranger to the concept of reciprocity
People honor boys like you in this society

Alanis is great, isn't she? Heh

    Hands Clean

If it weren't for your maturity none of this would have happened
If you weren't so wise beyond your years I would've been able to control myself
If it weren't for my attention you wouldn't have been successful and
If it weren't for me you would never have amounted to very much

    Ooh this could be messy
But you don't seem to mind
    Ooh don't go telling everybody
    And overlook this supposed crime

We'll fast forward to a few years later
And no one knows except the both of us
And I have honored your request for silence
And you've washed your hands clean of this

You're essentially an employee and I like you having to depend on me
You're kind of my protege and one day you'll say you learned all you know from me
I know you depend on me like a young thing would to a guardian
I know you sexualize me like a young thing would and I think I like it

    Ooh this could get messy
But you don't seem to mind
    Ooh don't go telling everybody
    And overlook this supposed crime

We'll fast forward to a few years later
And no one knows except the both of us
And I have honored your request for silence
And you've washed your hands clean of this

what part of our history's reinvented and under rug swept?
what part of your memory is selective and tends to forget?
what with this distance it seems so obvious?

Just make sure you don't tell on me especially to members of your family
We best keep this to ourselves and not tell any members of our inner posse
I wish I could tell the world cuz you're such a pretty thing when you're done up properly
I might want to marry you one day if you watch that weight and keep your firm body

Ooh this could be messy and
Ooh I don't seem to mind
    Ooh don't go telling everybody
    And overlook this supposed crime

Here's one from Mick Jagger's "Wandering Spirit" album.

    "Don't Tear Me Up"

Life is rich, but it's way too short
You make alot of money, but you just want more
I don't need the pain right here in my heart
But I hate every minute when we're so far apart
It was love in a minute, it was love in a flash
It brings me no pleasure, just a stab in the back
It brings me no comfort, it brings me no peace
A weight on my shoulder, it's a fatal discease

    So don't tear me up
I don't ever wanna see your picture again
    And don't poison my blood
I don't ever wanna see your face here no more

Gonna finish it quick, gonna finish it clean
Don't wanna be bitter, I don't wanna be mean
I feel like we're driving down a dead- end street
I've come so far I wanna crash the car, I wanna land right on my feet

I said don't tear me up
I don't ever wanna see your picture again
I said don't tear me up
I don't ever wanna see your face here no more

But I dream of you constantly, you'll be my angel of light
And in the dark rooms of sleeplessness , you'll be my lover each night

Life is a bitch, it's way too short
Unlike a politician it just can't be bought
Think about the tenderness , and think about the craziness
And if you ever wanna hate me come stick a knife right in my chest

I said don't tear me up
I don't ever wanna see your picture again
I said don't tear me up
I don't ever wanna see your face here no more
I said don't poison my blood
I don't ever wanna see your picture again

A healthy one by Dave Mason.

    So let's leave it alone
Cuz we can't see eye to eye
    There ain't no good guys
    There ain't no bad guys
    There's only you and me
    And we just disagree

    Oridnary World- Duran Duran

You give love a bad name- Bon Jovi

Bring on the Rain- Jodee Mesina and Tim McGraw

My all time favorite, just based on the words:

As Heaven is Wide by Garbage

Nothing that you say will release you
Nothing that you pray would forgive you
Nothing's what your words mean to me
Something that you did will destroy me
Something that you said will stay with me
Long after you're dead and gone

    If flesh could crawl
    My skin would fall
    From off my bones
    And run away from here

    As far from God
    As heaven is wide
    As far from God
    As angels can fly

If holy is as holy does
This house will burn straight down to hell
    Take it's conscience with it
    As it falls

Nothing said could change the fact
    My trust was blind
    You broke the pact
If God's my witness, God must be blind

    If flesh could crawl
    My skin would fall
    From off my bones
    And run away from here

    As far from God
    As heaven is wide
    As far from God
    As angels can fly

    I wish, I wish
    I wish, I wish

Take it back I dare you take it back
No you can't? You should have thought of that
    What's inside a man
    That goes so wrong

Choke on guilt that's far too good for you
Say one word I'll laugh and bury you
And leave you in the place
    Where you left me

    If flesh could crawl
    My skin would fall
    From off my bones
    And run away from here

    As far from God
    As heaven is wide
    As far from God
    As angels can fly

    I wish I could fly
    As angels can fly

    I wish, I wish

Ok SInce everybody is posting lyrics I gotta post the lyrics to my FAVE (Male) Breakup song.

Piss up a Rope by Ween

My dinners on fire while she watches TV
and if you ever wondered what its like to be me.
She takes all my money and leaves me no smokes
She yells at my buddies and insults my folks.
I'm breakin my back doin the best that I can
She got time for the dog but none for her man.
And I'm no dope, but I can't cope
so Hit the fukin road and piss up a rope.

Weeeelll you can Piss up a rope
you can put on your shoes, hit the road get truckin.
Pack your bag, I don't need the Nag
on your knees you big booty bitch start suckin.
You ride my ass like a horse in a saddle
now you're up shit creek with a terd for a paddle.
And I can't cope, so piss up a rope.

You can piss up a rope and feel the pissy dribble
you can piss up a rope and watch me giggle.
For the last six months I been packin your bag.
You can wash my balls with a warm wet rag
until my balls feel smooth and soft like silk.
I'm sick of your mouth and your 2% milk.
And Im'no dope but I've lost all hope
So hit the fukin road and piss up a rope.

Weeeelll you can Piss up a rope
you can put on your shoes, hit the road get truckin.
Pack your bag, I don't need the Nag
on your knees you big booty bitch start suckin.
You ride my ass like a horse in a saddle
now you're up shit creek with a terd for a paddle.
And I can't cope, so piss up a rope.

Did anyone say "Time of Your Life" by Green Day? Or is that excessively - you know, overdone?

And how about "Sittin at A Bar" by Rehab:

I'm sittin at a bar on the inside
Waitin for my ride on the outside
She broke my heart in the trailer park
So I jacked the keys to her fuckin car
    Crashed that piece of shit
    And then stepped away

    Forgot two more...

Corrosion of Conformity: Stare too long:

Oh lord I must be crazy, settled down and I find nothing new..
Older days, they used to matter but I don't care
Cause I got nothin' to lose

And if I stare too long, I might not see you right
Over time, the heart goes out of sight

And if I stare too long, I might not see you right
Close the door. Where the heart is out of sight

Many a dreams across the river
But it's too strong for a boy like me, yeah....

Now you're gone but I still remember
Better days as they wash into the sea

And if I stare too long, I might not see you right
Over time, the heart goes out of sight
And if I stare too long, I might not see you right
Close the door. Where the heart is out of sight

I've got the time but I got no reason
    I'm broken down, waiting patiently
Now the sun don't shine for me and that's a different season
but she comes around one more time for me...

And if I stare too long, I think I might go blind
Over time the heart goes out of sight
And if I live too long, I might not treat you right
Close the door....Now you're shining way too bright...
    Shine on.....

    Smile
    Lonestar

    ____

I still remember the night we met
You said you loved my smile
But your love for me was like a summer breeze
Oh, it lasted for a while
I could hold on a little tighter I know
But when you love someone you gotta let 'em go so

    I'm gonna smile
'Cause I want to make you happy
Laugh, so you can't see me cry
I'm gonna let you go in style
And even if it kills me
    I'm gonna smile

Kiss me once for the good times, baby
Kiss me twice for good bye
You can't help how you don't feel
    And it doesn't matter why
Give me a chance to bow out gracefully
'Cause that's how I want you to remember me

    I'm gonna smile
'Cause I want to make you happy
Laugh, so you can't see me cry
I'm gonna let you go in style
And even if it kills me

    I'm gonna smile
    I'm gonna smile

So you can find the courage
Laugh, so you won't see me hurtin'
I'm gonna let you go in style
And even if it kills me

In the calling out to one another
Of the lovers up and down the strand
In the sound of the waves and the cries
Of the seagulls circling the sand
In the fragments of the songs
Carried down the wind from some radio
In the murmuring of the city in the distance
    Ominous and low

I hear the sound of the world where we played
And the far too simple beauty
    Of the promises we made

    If you ever need holding
Call my name, I’ll be there
    If you ever need holding
And no holding back, I’ll see you through
    Sky blue and black

Where the touch of the lover ends
And the soul of the friend begins
There’s a need to be separate and a need to be one
    And a struggle neither wins
Where you gave me the world I was in
And a place I could make a stand
I could never see how you doubted me
When I’d let go of your hand

Yeah, and I was much younger then
And I must have thought that I would know
If things were going to end

    And the heavens were rolling
Like a wheel on a track
    And our sky was unfolding
    And it’ll never fold back
    Sky blue and black

And I’d have fought the world for you
If I thought that you wanted me to
Or put aside what was true or untrue
If I’d known that’s what you needed
What you needed me to do

But the moment has passed by me now
To have put away my pride
And just come through for you somehow

    If you ever need holding
Call my name, I’ll be there
    If you ever need holding
And no holding back, I’ll see you through

You’re the color of the sky
Reflected in each store-front window pane
You’re the whispering and the sighing
Of my tires in the rain
You’re the hidden cost and the thing that’s lost
    In everything I do
Yeah and I’ll never stop looking for you
In the sunlight and the shadows
And the faces on the avenue
    That’s the way love is
    That’s the way love is
    That’s the way love is
    Sky blue and black

Gotta stir the embers of an old, but good thread.
I recently discovered this band and fell in LOVE with this song. Its country [I know, boo - hiss from some of you] but its got a good hard rock-ish beat.

This song makes people in happy relationship want to be free - its very ...liberating. The part I bolded - I think, strikes a cord with everyone who hears it - I mean, who can't relate?

I used to be crazy, they called me the fool
Guess I wasn’t myself, back when I wanted you.
See you come around again, same look in your eye,
I’d have to be crazy, to fall again for your lies.

    [Chorus]

‘Cause I’m gonna break these chains around my broken heart.
You could’ve had it once, but you tore it all apart.
I’m gonna throw your cryin’ eyes over my left shoulder,
Not going to let You wear Your crown – this time around.

No I can’t stay a little longer, gotta be on my way.
I’ve heard a thousand times - everything you’ve got to say.
So I’ll show myself to the door, and I’ll turn out your lights.
I’ll get in my car – you’ll be alone again tonight.

    [Chorus]

    [Bridge]
Never thought I’d be so cold?
What’d you expect me to do?
Can’t put it all on hold – I learned it all from you.

‘Cause I’m gonna break these chains around my broken heart.
You could’ve had it once, but you tore it all apart.
I’m gonna throw your lyin’ eyes over my left shoulder,
Not going to let You wear Your crown – this time around.

Not gonna let You wear Your crown – this time around.
    Yea, this time around.
    This time around.

    Ice King-Res

    "Although you're an Ice King
Everything that you gave to me
Comes from the destitute and the torn
I can't live this life no more
    Just another wasted one
Like a fallen star in Babylon
You said I was your princess baby
I told you certain things you can't possess
So let me go let me go
    Cause I
    [CHORUS]
    I've given until I break
    The ground beneath us quakes
How can we grow when we've only begun
    Forsaken beneath the sun
    Although I've seen your wickedness
    I still love your effervesence
And I know that loving you don't make no sense
    I guess that's why I like it
    Just another priceless pawn
All our dreams are now forgone
You said I was your princess baby
I told you certain things you can't possess
So let me go let me go
    [CHORUS]
    I've given until I break
    The ground beneath us quakes
How can we grow when we've only begun
    Forsaken beneath the sun"

When my sister and her b/f were fixing to break-up for the 1,000th time, she burned a cd and left it in his mailbox. It had the song "All I know" by Art Garfunkle. It's a really good break-up song. Really good song period. Right before I broke-up for good with my g/f a few weeks ago, I sent her "Ordinary People" by John Legend.

    "All I Know"

I bruise you, you bruise me
    We both bruise too easily
Too easily to let it show
I love you, and that's all I know

All my plans have fallen through
All my plans depend on you
Depend on you to help them grow
I love you, and that's all I know

    When the singer's gone
    Let the song go on...

But the ending always comes at last
    Endings always come too fast
They come too fast, but they pass to slow
I love you, and that's all I know

    When the singer's gone
    Let the song go on
It's a fine line between the darkness and the dawn
    They say the darkest night
    There's a light beyond

But the ending always comes at last
    Endings always come too fast
They come too fast, but they pass too slow
I love you, and that's all I know
    That's all I know
    That's all I know

"Ordinary People" (my ex's song...minus the "I'm in love with you"

Girl im in love with you
    This ain't the honeymoon
    Past the infatuation phase
Right in the thick of love
At times we get sick of love
It seems like we argue everyday

    I know i misbehaved
    And you made your mistakes
And we both still got room left to grow
    And though love sometimes hurts
    I still put you first
And we'll make this thing work
But I think we should take it slow

    We're just ordinary people
We don't know which way to go
    Cuz we're ordinary people
Maybe we should take it slow (Take it slow oh oh ohh)
This time we'll take it slow (Take it slow oh oh ohh)
This time we'll take it slow

    This ain't a movie no
    No fairy tale conclusion ya'll
    It gets more confusing everyday
    Sometimes it's heaven sent
Then we head back to hell again
We kiss and we make up on the way

    I hang up you call
    We rise and we fall
And we feel like just walking away
    As our love advances
    We take second chances
    Though it's not a fantasy
I Still want you to stay

    We're just ordinary people
We don't know which way to go
    Cuz we're ordinary people
Maybe we should take it slow (Take it slow oh oh ohh)
This time we'll take it slow (Take it slow oh oh ohh)
This time we'll take it slow

    Take it slow
    Maybe we'll live and learn
    Maybe we'll crash and burn
Maybe you'll stay, maybe you'll leave,
    maybe you'll return
    Maybe another fight
    Maybe we won't survive
    But maybe we'll grow
We never know baby youuuu and I

    Anybody remember AIR SUPPLY?

Man, I used to sob my eyes out back when I was 12 while listening to air supply. I didn't even know shit about love must have been the hormones.

hmm...come to think of it...maybe they were more like love songs...I just remember breaking up with a boyfriend or 2 and crying my little heart out while torturing myself with their music...

    Crazy; by Patsy Cline

    This one tears me up.

That song and damn near any other country song about lost love, EXCEPT the "perfect" country song by David Allen Coe.

The best break up song is the favorite song the two of you listened to while having rough passionate sex together.

Have that playing as you walk off into the sunset.

    (dont forget the 3 "snaps"up)

I'm not sure it's a break up song but.. Well the story begins with me holding down my very first job doing a paper route dropping about 150 papers every morning when I was uhmm 16. Well, I used to drop my papers and then head straight over to this girl's house that I was dating at like 6am. She was 14 and a freshman in HS. I would sneak around back, knock on her bedroom window, she would wake and sneak across the LR to let me in the front door. I would then proceed to pound those walls into oblivion. After which I would go home, shower, and then head back over to her house to ride to school with she and her mother who was a teacher at the HS.

Well, one morning things got a little loud. I was so young and caught up in the moment that I took it to her even harder. A few minutes later he father busts in the room. My first instinct was to roll off of the bed onto the floor opposite the room door.

Needless to say I walked to school that morning... Later that evening she had called and asked me to come over. When I arrived she came outside and said we had to break up. I was devastated. (mostly b/c she was a great girl and partly b/c the sex was fantastic) When I arrived back home I sulked in my room and turned on the radio. Shirley Murdock's "As We Lay" was piping through the speakers. Well, I must admit I balled like never before during that song and it took me months to not well up whenever I heard it.

So I am not sure it's a break up song but it caught me at the right time.
