Argh, this thread is depressing, lol...

I much prefer the idea of listening to "Fuck the bitch/asshole!" type songs, but to each their own. And hiding from the pain is the easy way out, I suppose, which is why we see so many 'rebound' romances, especially with grossly inferior partners, haha.

Did I already post in this thread way back about the old Albert Brooks movie where the guy he is playing tears the radio right out of his car and throws it out the window? I love that scene!

How about, "My Girlfriend's Dead" by the Vandals

    I once had a girlfriend
But then one day she dumped me
And everywhere I go people would ask me where she was
I don't want to talk about her
    Someone always asks about her
So I tell them all: my girlfriend's dead
I say it's leukemia or sometimes bulemia
Or a great big truck ran her over and chopped off her
I don't want to talk about her
But someone always asks about her
So I tell them all: she's dead
    I guess there's a part of me
    That lacks sympathy
Oh, the looks on their faces when I tell them
    How she passed away
I don't want to talk about her
But someone always asks about her
So I tell them all shes dead
My girlfriend's dead [2x], you see
It's a total lie but it's easier on me
Than having to admit that she likes someone else
My girlfriend's dead [2x], you know
Please change the subject, I'm going to go
Jump off a building and join her in heaven
I don't want to talk about her
But someone always asks about her
So I tell them all: she's dead
    I once had a girlfriend
But then one day she dumped me
And everywhere I go people would ask me where she was
I don't want to talk about her ----
But someone always asks about her ----[2x]
So I tell them all: my girlfriend's dead -

Gotta chime in here. I'm definitely down with the Alanis and the Ani, especially anything from "Dilate". But for me, when it comes to wallowing in heartache, there's nothing like Tori. The ENTIRE "Boys for Pele" album (you Toriphiles know what I'm talking about) is choice - grab bottle of red wine, assume fetal position, and blast it.

There are other great ones on other albums of hers too, though, as BFP is a little dense for those who aren't total Tori freaks. All I need is to hear the first line of "Baker Baker" and I start to tear up (and my relationship is perfectly fine):

    Baker Baker
    Baking a cake
    Make me a day
    Make me whole again
    And I wonder
    What's in a day
What's in your cake this time

    I guess you heard
    He's gone to LA
He says that behind my eyes I'm hiding
And he tells me I pushed him away
That my heart's been hard to find

    Here
    there must be something here
    there must be something here
    here

    Baker Baker can you explain
    If truly his heart
    Was made of icing
    And I wonder
    How mine could taste
Maybe we could change his mind

    I know you're late
    For you next parade
    You came to make sure
    That I'm not running
    Well, I ran from him
    In all kinds of ways
Guess it was his turn this time

    Time
thought I'd made friends with time
    Thought we'd be flying
    Maybe not this time

    Baker Baker
    Baking a cake
    Make me a day
    Make me whole again
    And I wonder
    If he's ok
If you see him, say hi

    Everclear's Hater:

Yeah live and let live motherf***ers, I'ma do me you do you. You're all a bunch of haters.

    Oh
    Oh

I don't like the way that you talk to me
When you tell me how it's gonna be
And I don't like the way that you smile at me
When you tell me what is wrong with me
Sometimes I wish you would go away
Go away and never ever come back
I don't like the mean and vindictive things you do
It makes me want to hate on you

    Yeah it's got me sad
    I'm kinda stressed
    You got me feeling anxious
    I'm always depressed
And I don't want to play this game of tug of war
I don't wanna be with a hater like you anymore

    Oh

I don't wanna be with a hater like you anymore, anymore
    No
No I don't wanna be with a hater
    You are such a hater

I don't like the way that you never take the blame
    For absolutely anything
And I don't like the way that you put me through hell
For all those things you do yourself
Sometimes I wish I could disappear
Fade away into a happy new life
I don't like the way that you're always telling lies
You talk about me all the time

    I hear you talk
    You are such a bore
I see the way you look
    I think you look like a w****
    I know you know
I know the way you were before

I don't wanna be with a hater like you anymore
    Whoa, oh
I don't wanna be with a hater like you anymore,
    Anymore
    no no
I don't wanna be with a hater like you
    Hater, hater
I don't wanna be with a hater like you
    Hater, hater
I don't wanna be with a hater like you anymore
    Anymore
    Oh
    Anymore, anymore,
    No no
I don't wanna play this game,
No I don't wanna play games, games, uh

    You're a hypocrite
    Yeah you lie to me
You use what you don't understand
    You embarrass me
    Yeah you're beautiful
    And I love the way
    Hated sex
    Was never that good anyway

    It's got me down
    And I'm super stressed
    Been taking medication
    I'm always depressed
I don't want to fight you in this tug of war
I don't wanna be with a hater like you anymore
    Whoa whoa
I don't wanna be with a hater like you anymore, anymore
    Whoa whoa
I don't wanna be with a hater like you

I cant believe no one has put any emo on here, its the epitome of break music-the whole damn genre!

    Dashboard Confessional- The brilliant dance

    So this is odd,
the painful realization that has all gone wrong.
    And nobody cares at all,
    and nobody cares at all.

So you buried all your lover's clothes
and burned the letters lover wrote,
but it doesn't make it any better.
Does it make it any better?
And the plaster dented from your fist
in the hall where you had your first kiss
reminds you that the memories will fade.

    So this is strange,
our sidestepping has come to be a brilliant dance
    where nobody leads at all,
    where nobody leads at all.

And the picture frames are facing down
and the ringing from this empty sound
is deafening and keeping you from sleep.
And breathing is a foreign task
and thinking's just too much to ask
and you're measuring your minutes by a clock that's blinking eights.

    This is incredible.
    Starving, insatiable,
yes, this is love for the first time.
Well you'd like to think that you were invincible.
Yeah, well weren't we all once before we felt loss for the first time?
Well this is the last time.

An old one but a good one.

    Writer(s): george and ira gershwin

There are many many crazy things
That will keep me loving you
    And with your permission
    May I list a few

The way you wear your hat
The way you sip your tea
    The memory of all that
No they cant take that away from me

The way your smile just beams
The way you sing off key
The way you haunt my dreams
No they cant take that away from me

We may never never meet again, on that bumpy road to love
But Ill always, always keep the memory of

The way you hold your knife
The way we danced till three
The way you changed my life
No they cant take that away from me

    It's about a breakup...

    "Bulimic" The Used

From the way that you acted
To the way that I felt it
    It wasn't worth my time
And now it's sad cause all I missed
Wasn't that good to begin with
And now I've started you begging
Saying things that you don't mean
    It isn't worth my time
    A line's a die a million times
And I'm about to see all of them

    Good-bye to you
    Good-bye to you
You're taking up my time (x3)

    Good-bye to you
    Good-bye to you

You call my name when I wake up
To see things go your way
    I'm coughing up my time
Each drag's a drop of blood, a grain
    A minute of my life
It's all I've got just to stay down
Why the fuck am I still down
    I'm hoarding all thats mine
Each time I let just one slip by
    I'm wasting what is mine

    Good-bye to you
    Good-bye to you
You're taking up my time (x3)

    Good-bye to you
    Good-bye to you

    My time (x4)

I’m about to see a million things I thought I’d never seen before,
And I...I’m bout to do all of the things I dreamed of and
I don’t even miss you at all (repeat twice)
    (Fuck you)

    Goodbye to you
    Goodbye to you
You're taking up my time (repeat till fades)

Ok, don't laugh. I was listening to a live acoustic version of this song on KGSR the other day and almost lost it. Its really lovely:

Crowded House › Fall At Your Feet

    Im really close tonight
And I feel like Im moving inside her
    Lying in the dark
And I think that Im beginning to know her
    Let it go
Ill be there when you call

And whenever I fall at your feet
You let your tears rain down on me
Whenever I touch your slow turning pain

    Youre hiding from me now
Theres something in the way that youre talking
    Words dont sound right
But I hear them all moving inside you, go
Ill be waiting when you call

Hey and whenever I fall at your feet
Wont you let your tears rain down on me
Whenever I touch your slow turning pain

The finger of blame has turned upon itself
And Im more than willing to offer myself
Do you want my presence or need my help
Who knows where that might lead
    I fall

Whenever I fall at your feet
Would you let your tears rain down on me
Whenever I fall, ever I fall

    The Long And Winding Road
    By The Beatles

    The long and winding road
    That leads to your door
    Will never disappear
    Ive seen that road before
    It always leads me here
    Leads me to you door

    The wild and windy night
    That the rain washed away
Has left a pool of tears
    Crying for the day
    Why leave me standing here
    Let me know the way

    Many times Ive been alone
    And many times Ive cried
    Any way youll never know
    The many ways Ive tried

But still they lead me back
    To the long winding road
    You left me standing here
    A long long time ago
    Dont leave me waiting here
    Lead me to your door

But still they lead me back
    To the long winding road
    You left me standing here
    A long long time ago
    Dont leave me waiting here
    Lead me to your door
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
