    Default Anxiety and dancing questions....

    Hi,
I love to dance but, i have bad anxiety and freeze up on stage. When im out at a regular club i can dance, but, on stage i feel like i dont know how to move, and i dont look sexy enough. Is there any way, besides copying other dancers that i think look amazing on stage, to be sexier on stage. Im wondering if anybody has taken dance classes? I live in M.A. area anybody have any ideas? Although, this doesnt affect my money making, it is affecting the way i feel up on stage. Thanks

Yikes...that's a toughie. There are some people who are just never comfortable on stage. You need to look at WHAT makes you uncomfortable...and deal with that. However, people STILL have this misconception that if they do the "right" moves then they'll be awesome on stage. You simply need to move slowly/sexily. That's it. There's no "one special" move. Try finding music that MAKES you want to move in a sexy way (Prince is always a good music choice) and practice at home. Keep practicing until you feel comfortable with the moves...learn how to get the moves to flow from one movement to the next. Sometimes to make something look effortless takes a lot of hard work.

BTW...are you a newbie? If you are...EVERYBODY goes through what you are going through. It's part of the "process".

    Good luck!

It took me close to a year to get over my stage anxiety and actually feel comfortable on stage. Working at different clubs seemed to help.

wow! im the complete opposite of this!! i can dance pretty well on stage, but in a regular club, wearing regular clothers, dancing regularly....nah uh.

its got to be hard when for you tho, cos this is your job, not just pleasure.theres no way to avoid it.

a girl at my old club went to a hypnotheripst, and suprisingly, she said it worked well....for about 4 months, then she had to go back

    Hi Ladies,

Thanks a bunch. I think it might be that my friend who is amazing on stage and all the guys go nuts when they see her dance.Example, she does pole tricks, and crazy flooor work, very flexible, ect. And i wouldnt dare ask her to show me any pole tricks, she's got that attitude that she is the only one who can rock the stage attitude going on. Trust me i am friends with her, i know and, its not a jealousy thing because her body is nothing to be jealous of , i am constantly being told by dancers, and people that i am beautiful, its just the way i feel on stage. She gets smashed every time she works, and i am the only girl that i can think of that doesnt touch any kind of drug, or alcohol. So that might be a reason too? Anyway, i think its just my insecurities that i will have to get over, i am very hard on myself. And when im not on stage i can move, even for private dances , i feel like two different people. Its like when noone is really watching i dance but, when they are i cant friggin' move. Its so weird i kno'. Well, thanks for your advice again

I am one of those who goes out to a club and can't figure out how to dance on the dance floor... LOL... I am so used to moving slow that dancing in a club for fun just takes a lot of work for me.

Not sure what to tell you about the anxiety.. I never have had any stage fright of any kind.. when I started in this biz, I began full nude and never had an issue, I suggest perhaps getting yourself a few full length mirrors at home and practicing.. it helps to "see" what you look like. Also pick some music that you like to move to, for me, I dance to stuff that I normally would not listen to on my off time, I found that I like a lot of darker stuff and that works for me... even though I love to bop in my car to hip hop, I am not one to dance to it when I'm on stage.. and if I do, people do a double take- people begin to sterotype you based on the music you dance too.. (which, is another topic all together)

    Good Luck

It is part of being a newbie. The only thing that cured my clumsy feelings on stage was working at a bar where we had 5-10 stage shows a night, a little bit of practice (people will look at you funny if you do it at the gym!) and time.
Veterans still screw up- I had too much to drink a couple nights ago and did unintentional splits, only avoiding planting my face in the stage with my outstreched hand.
Be patient.......and watch the other dancers.

What first helped me onstage was the mirror. All the clubs i've worked in have mirrors on the stage, just look at what moves look good. And seeing just how sexy I look onstage always helps with anxiety and gives me a little boost.
