    Default Drama Classes?

I have a pretty late in life interest in acting, and was thinking of using up my elective classes in college on acting. I've gone to theater productions and have friends who act, but I never was interested 'till now. I used to play guitar, which was as close as I got to performing arts, other than pole dancing....
Any comments welcome. I can't see myself being a big star, I don't have Hollywood aspirations, but I think it would be fun.

Go for it- theatre is fun. I took a drama class for the first time when I was in college and liked it. Maybe you could be in some plays in college too. I think it is hard to get paid roles in professional city theatres (usually people with drama BAs or MAs in theatre and long resumes) and Hollywood seems much harder. But have fun with drama at school and maybe you'll be really good.

I'm in my mid-twenties...."late in life interest" in drama is as opposed to someone who started drama club in junior high or high school.....it would partly be for shoots and giggles, and partly to learn about writing for screenplays/ novels.
My sister did drama and even went to Shakespeare events, has co-produced plays...I'm proud of her. That was my primary exposure to theater.

I did drama all through high school (member of the International Thespian Society here!) and had a blast. I would have gone on in college but made the mistake of not auditioning for the spot in some good schools.
There are usually local theater groups that love to see new faces. Call some theaters and check it out!!

That's what elective classes are for! Learning about things you have an interest in. Ironically, madmaxine, I've also considered taking some theater classes not only for fun, but to learn how to write screenplays. Unfortunately for me, Acting I was full this semester. Maybe next fall.

Also, Stage Makeup sounds like it would be a fun class!

Late in life? You're a college student! Go for it.

Acting is great fun. I have been in 3 1/2 plays (one got cut short when a drunk driver wrecked my motorcycle with me on it), and I loved every one of them. Don't worry about stage fright, you've mastered that one long ago. just make sure you know your lines...

I've always been "involved" in theatre! You'll love it! Even if you do not have "Hollywood" aspirations...there is nothing more satisfying as a live audience...and the energy you get from them. I love stage...I love theatre.

I've taken off for many years (stupid me)...I've just joined some new theatre groups, picked back up in voice and piano and I'm feeling much more "revived".

    Give it a shot...you won't regret it!

At the moment I am studying at a conservatory for theatre, and I find even if I don't "make it" to broadway or hollywood, I've learned so much about myself and my presence and confidence has increased. Learning acting techniques not only is for actors but you can also apply a lot of what you learn into other jobs and life in general. It's always fun. Go for it girl! And best of luck!

P.S. If you ever need any theatrical advice (plays, character references, cool sites) - I've been doing it for years and LOVE chatting about it. You can PM me or email me at [email protected]
