    Exclamation Pole Pox

This article is in this November issue of Playboy. I thought I would share...

"A rare but documented pole dancer's malady, it's an allergy to the nickel used in the chrome poles that produces painful skin inflammation and rashes. That's her story at least"

Just for the record, I personally have never seen nor heard of this...

Its an allergic reaction to nickel. My mother is allergic to nickel. She cant wear a watch with a nickel backing on it or she breaks out in this huge rash where it touched her skin. So its not a prevalent thing among people but it is there. And yes it can be very serious. I don't know if you can get tested for it or not.

I'm allergic to nickel. Not all poles make me break out, but some do. Always in the same place, insides of my knees.

I also am incredibly allergic to nickle. I sometimes (not always) but I break out on the backs of my knees, inside of elbows and my wrists. Sometimes its worse then others. Its incredibly irritating and itchy. I can not wear cheap metal at all..rings will swell my fingers and I cant wear all those pretty sparkly collars girls wear at work because they break me out too. It sucks...I feel your pain Bridgette!!

one time I had an extreme reaction after doing a couple pole tricks at a new club. I too thought it might be the pole but it turned out to be the crap they cleaned the pole with.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

I'd forgotten about this - I have nickle allergy too. The poles at 1 of the clubs I used to work in would sometimes bring me up in a rash. I seem to be ok at the current club.

Yeah, I'm ok at current club too. But for a while I was breaking out with the itchy rash at every new club I started, and as a result thought it was a reaction to bacteria on the pole. Obviously it was the poles themselves because I've had zero reaction at current club. Cheap metals have always made me break out - can't wear cheap jewelry because it makes me break out with the itchy rash and sometimes makes my skin turn green where the piece lays. Heh, I guess some of us make good fake detectors

I have the same problem with jewlery! I seem to be ok with the pole, but have problems with the cleaners (rash). It's icky!! I just go wash my hands every time I get off stage. I don't know how to do pole tricks yet.
