    Default Make-up Impaired

Like most girls, I want to look SEXY!!! I'm not HORRIBLE at putting on make-up, but I think I end up looking more pretty than sexy. It's always really simple, fairly natural make-up. I want the smoky eyes, and the gorgeous glowing look. Any tips, ladies?? Is there a make-up application website? Sometimes I don't want to just look cute/pretty, I wanna look HOT without looking trashy! I notice you girls all have great make-up, so I'd love it if you could all help me out!!! I have blue eyes and really long eyelashes, I'm pale, and have brownish hair with blonde highlights, if that helps THANKS! (maybe one day I'll get some pics up!)

We're in the same boat. But I'm learning. One book I've found really helpful is "The Miracle of Makeup Techniques" by Eve Pearl. It's more straightforward and practical than other books I've seen.

The biggest help of all has been MAC makeup counters. I've learned so much from having my makeup done there and asking questions. If you live near a department store, they sometimes have special events where MAC makeup artists give seminars and show you new looks, etc. It's fun, and the cost ($50) is redeemable towards MAC products.

The other thing is investing in a set of quality makeup brushes. They're expensive, but worth it. MAC has good ones. So does Shu Uemura. Learn what each brush is for and how to use it. I've heard it said that "the right tool is half the job." This couldn't be more true of makeup.

This little gem was passed onto me by another dancer and I swear by it: all you need is mascara and lipstick. Really... use a mascara that works well as well as a lipstick that will too.... the rest isn't too much of a worry.

I tend to opt for the more simplier make-up... foundation, eye shadow (sometimes I feel I put it on too light however this look works for me), mascara, a little rouge on the cheeks, lipstick. I've had the smokey eyes.. the sexy not trashy look... and it didn't really work for me. It didn't suit my stripper persona.

You need to find out what your stripper persona is going to be and that will help you out as to how to "do" your make-up.

go to beauty breakdown at the top of the page. From there, the star's names are alphabetized. My faves are Pam Anderson, Carmen Electra, and Cher. Doesn't really help with application techniques, but tells you what sort of products to use to acheive a similar effect.

    Application is key though.

If I told you guys how much money I've spent on books, make-up lessons, surfing the web and even video's on how to apply make-up you'd laugh at me. I only know how to do the basics that works for me. Lipstick, foundation and mascara. When it comes to eyeshadow it almost always ends up on my nose or cheeks. Thank GOD for make-up artists!

I've changed my makeup looks a little over the years, get bored with too much of the same thing. Currently I like to do sort of a cateye effect on my eyes, and use a pale neutral colored shimmery lipgloss with no liner on lips (my lips are pretty full anyway).

I do my foundation, concealer, blush and powder first. I like a neutral color for blush - I'm very pale with yellow undertones, blue-green eyes and red-auburn hair. Pink blushes don't work on me.

For eyes, I like to buy shadow palettes with dark or neutral colors (darker shades) with 3-4 complimentary shades. I'm not very good at putting colors together so this makes it easy - I can go bolder this way without screwing it up. I also use the eyeshadows for liner; this ensures my liner is coordinated and I find it works better for me at staying put. I just apply it heavy with a thin shadow sponge. My favorite color palettes are: [black, purple, grey, shimmery white], [black, shimmery purple, pink, shimmery white], [wine/burgundy, shimmery nude, shimmery pink], [brown, beige/tan, shimmery light nude].

Start with the darkest shade, and draw it in a line starting about an index finger's width from the end of my eyebrow, going in to the corner of my eye. Then take it from the starting point (near the brow) and curve it slightly up and into the crease, sort of in a slight arc under the browbone and in the crease of my upper eyelid. Blend it on the lid about halfway in. Then I take my thin shadow spongetip and draw a thick line under my eyes, heavily applied. I'll make it thicker or lighter depending on my mood and what type of outfit I'm wearing. I tend to use the darker palettes with 4 colors for a more smoldering look and the neutral palettes with 3 colors for a softer sexy look.

Next I use the middle color(s) on lids. If it's a palette with 4 colors, two will be middle shades and I may use one or both. If using both, I'll blend the darker of the two on top of my dark shade from the middle of the lid and out almost to the edge of the line I made between brow and corner of eye. If I go too far out I'll just blend a small amount of the darkest shade to make the outer line again. Blend so there's no definite transition between the colors. Then take the lighter of the two middle colors and apply it to lid from the inner corner to middle, blending the darker and lighter shades in the middle of my lid. If it's a palette of three colors, I'll just apply the one middle shade on the lid in the middle middle and blend with the dark outer shade.

Then apply the lightest shade on the palette under the eyebrow, and if it's a 3-color palette this shade also goes on my lid from the inner corner toward the middle, blending with the middle color. With 4-color palettes, I've got the lighter middle color on the inner part of the lid so the lightest shade only goes under the brow.

I have naturally long lashes so only need mascara to darken and accentuate them. I always use black and apply it to the outer lashes first, using the quick back and forth motion as I go up to help build it thicker. With darker shadows I'll apply more coats of mascara to darken and thicken. Then apply a lighter coat to the inner lashes, and use the applicator to brush them all out so they aim more toward the outside of the eye, look longer/thicker on the outside.

It seems complicated but once you start doing it, it's not so hard. I suck at makeup, so if I can learn to do it, anyone can. Basically everything is heavier and darker toward the outside of the eyes, and lighter/thinner toward the inner corners. This helps make the eyes look wider set and more cateye shaped. I like the shimmery highlight colors for more glam.

I think if you do the smoldering cateye look, you only need pale gloss on the lips. I once read that you should only accentuate one feature - choose lips or eyes and glam it up, then apply minimal accent to the other. Glamming up both is overkill I guess.

I'm really good with make up so I knew how to copy the look, besides not wanting to pay for it. But I've seen the Alexis Vogul system and I think this is the look you're going for. Check it out. It is pricey but the brushes and all that makeup are worth the price alone. And it teaches you everything.
