    Default Well, here we go.....

There was an HPV thread about this awhile ago with many posts but it dissapeared. I will start a new one.

Well here we go..again. Back to the gynocologist to get peeked at inside again. I have had HPV since I was 17 or so and now I am 20. I was going regularly until about 8 months ago and I havent been back since to monitor it. Last time I was there they told me I recently had been moved from ASCUS (somewhat abnomal cells) to low grade sil. From then I dont know whats going on. Im so stupid for not going. I felt so ashamed and could never tell anyone. Im starting to feel better since Ive read some threads on it here and this is my story. I still feel scared to go to my new appointment on November 6th. Eventhough its almost 2 weeks away but I am scared to what I might find out. I dont know what to do if I find out it has gotten worse. Thank god I have no visible symptons. I'm hoping it will just go away. If anyone would like to hear I could post and update.
I just wanted to post my story here in hopes I will feel better as well as hoping some other people might feel better about going through it. I'm just in need of support. Also, if anyone wanted to post what kind of procedures they went through and how they dealt with it that would be greatly appreciated.

Tigersmilk i worked with a girl that had HPV. She had just a few on the outside, they turned odd as well, the cells. The doctor had her on a cream twice a day for a few years to keep them almost very very tiny she said. Then one check-up showed odd cells, so he took them off. I know it's in the blood stream, and there is no cure, but might removing the ones that are found upon knowing one has HPV help alot.....I don't know.

    Anyway she is doing fine.

    Good luck,
    Pamela

TigersMilk, I'm going to make you feel a whole lot better. In 1998 I got HPV from my ex-boyfriend- piggo was into f*cking without a condom before he met me. I was very young, scared, and blamed myself at first. I had what you have- the non-visible, no-symptoms HPV. The doctors did a procedure to burn the cells on my cervix. The gyno was very great and explained to me how common the virus is. It is often spread by people who have no clue they contracted it....and they pass it on to others.....who don't see it because it's tiny, invisible, or gets mistaken for an ingrown hair or pimple.
The best news of all is that a lot of the strains of HPV will go away with time if you get treated, abstain from risky sex AND use condoms + other disease-prevention methods. The best treatment is a good diet, health supplements, exercise and avoiding any activity that stresses your immune system (drug abuse, heavy drinking, un-needed stress...) Proper medical treatement, a good diet and healthy lifestyle will not allow viruses to take hold and grow.

A very good woman's health book: The Natural Remedy Book for Women, by Diane Stein. Although it doesn't specifically deal w/ this, it has a lot of good advice, dealing with vitamins, herbs, accupressure, emotional healing, etc. Also, in health stores, there is a huge reference book on a podium that deals w/virtually every medical situation. Best of luck to you, dear. You're very brave to talk about it. & Max too.

Yes, the book whirlerz recommends is a good investment. I have worked hard to be healthy and my HPV has never returned.......careful sexual activity is important too. Men tend to be insanely neglectful when it comes to sexual health issues- they fricking joke about it, but it's different for women. Don't ever let some guy talk you out of using condoms, only grief can come to you. It's not worth it!

I just want to bring up the condom thing so others don't think it's 100% fine to use condoms. The Virus can and will set way up the shaft of the penis. A condom normally does not go way up to the pubic hair, bumps may be present ubove the condom, skin flakes may rub off during sex and infect the partner. I know it can suck. BUt stil if a condom does not tear after sex, some may think all is cool, and never think they have HPV, this virus is not easy to detect by lookingh ourselves. Some doctors even miss it.

This may sound odd, but if a guy really cares...Look at his penis, and look well. See bumps stay away! Ps some are so small you can't see them.

It's a risk we take for love and sex.

    Good luck,

    Pamela

Pamela is absolutely right. In fact, one of my girlfriends found out she had this, and she was so careful about not wanting to infect her boyfriend that in order to prevent passing it through skin contact, he wore boxers and a condom when they had intercourse. I don't know if everyone needs to do that, but it's an option if your man has this.

Thanks for the replies so far. Its such a huge virus with like 100 different strains.
The only that I wish was different is that more healthcare professionals would be a little more emoitionally supportive.
Story: My bosses friend and her as well both found out they both had HPV about the same time. My boss got hers burned off by laser and her friend got them burned off by Cryo. But, her friend found out later she had herpes. She only has outbreaks about 1-2 times a year now b/c of the treatment. And my boss hasnt had any adverse effects.
Can HPV cause herpes? Has anyone ever heard that happening? I would be answering these questions myself but I cant seem to find then online.

Nope. HPV and herpes are two different viral strains. HPV causing herpes would be like measles causing mumps. I think I've read that HPV is related to increased chances of cervical cancer, so be very regular about getting pap smears.

As with most chronic conditions, staying in good over-all health is on of the best ways to prevent outbreaks. Eat well, get plenty of rest, avoid stress, don't use too much alcohol, nicotine, marijuana -- these all weaken the immune system over time. So do refined sugars and starches.

Take care of yourself and you should be fine.

Yes many women who have HPV have a higher risk of cervical cancer. Some gynos automatically require a patient to have a colposcopy vs. regular pap after learning that they have HPV.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.
