    Default Voting....please do!

I hope everyone made time today to vote....I'd love it if this thread would share stories, thoughts, reasons...but mostly I want to say that I think we all should vote and that almost NO ONE can't find a half hour to do it.

This is probably the most important election most of us have been alive for. Whether you want to bury Kerry or save a tree, unplant a bush...it's time to make your statement.

For those that don't vote...I'd be very curious if you'd explain in this thread why. Not very clear to me the logic behind not voting...would like to understand better. Many of my "friends" say they don't vote because it doesn't matter (statistically not true) but then feel free to complain about the politicians in office...seems inconsistent to me and I'd like to know more about that side of the coin.

    thanks!

I voted early - early last week. It was great - no special place to go and the lines were short.

It was actually at a grocery store, and I saw the portable polls set up on my way out. I was like "YES!"

So I packed my bags away and walked back to the polling place.

They had a line A and a line B. Start in the middle of the table and move to the left or the right.

I went to the center of the table, showed my voter registration. The dude behind the laptop computer clicked a few things and then asked me to move to the left as he handed me a peice of paper with my voter code number on it. He then handed a sticky to the guy on the left.

I moved left with the passing of the sticky thing. The next guy pasted it to a peice of paper and asked me to sign it, which I did.

He was like "Thank you very much - you can vote now."

So I wander over to the machines clearly marked B obviously for the B line people. They were little computers set up with blinds on the side.

I chose an unoccupied one following the men's bathroom code. (A whole nother thread.)

It asked me to enter in my authorization number which I did. One spun this little wheel around which moved the cursor on the screen and then clicked the enter key to choose a number.

One pretty much did the same thing working one's way through the ballet. I had to write my candidate in - Ralph Nader - because he didn't make the ballot in Texas. This was a bit like playing an 80's arcade game spinning the wheel around choosing letters.

It left me the choice to not choose some people cuz I had no idea who they were or what their positions meant. Me bad.

At the end, it told me to push the big red Cast Ballot button which I did. It asked "Are you sure?" and gave me the option to go back or I could finish it off by pressing the big red Cast Ballot button again, which I did.

It then said "Your vote has been recorded." and I walked away feeling like a better citizen.

(I expect to be called to jury duty sometime in the next month. )

P.S. I am planning on getting the pizza, popcorn, and Dr. Pepper out to watch the circus on TV now!

I voted this year...but I don't always...and I've had people try to tell me, "If you didn't vote, you don't have a right to bitch." To that I say, "Welcome to America, dumbass...because of where we live, I DO have a right to bitch whether I vote or not! PHPHTPTHPTHPHT!"

cool story on new technology....I haven't seen those yet, though I used to develop touch screen systems so I know how they work.

For me it was weird..no voter card (lost the damn thing) don't live in the town I'm registered in (won't change that till I change my license) so I went to the small town I used to live in. there are 2 firehalls there, figured the one with the line would be the voting place. Waited in line...and guess what? I SHOULD HAVE GONE TO THE OTHER ONE

Stroll down the street to the other one (whole 1/4 mile) and there's no line...got it done. Only annoyance was the volunteer at the 2nd place asking why wife and I don't have same last name, and (when she found out I was registered as "Green") asked if I was voting Bush. I didn't answer, but apparently my face made a really clear answer for me.

I didn't vote, as much as I wanted to, simply because I missed the deadline for registering to vote in Az and my dumb ass didn't get my absentee ballot from Ct(funny how small things like that slip your mind as you're job hunting and rushing to get kids registered in school, and settling in)

Folks that are apathetic or ignorant shouldn't vote; they skew the results and damage the integrity of the system.

    Fewer voters = better government

    Stop the vote!

    blade.. I hear that...been there~!

CA...fewer votes begins to approach monarchy. I wonder why we think voting and democracy is so vital to Iraq and the rest of the world if we can't practice it at home.
