Default Grrrr! 100% Normal!!!!! Stripper Bitches

I am posting this in defense of all dancers.....my roommate makes occasional snotty comments about my life as a dancer (he expressed doubt he'd want his daughter growing up to live freely and "island hop" like me.....in a conversation about raising kids to not fear life) and then he asked me if I ever had an eating disorder. Sheesh!
The funny part is that a few of his female college acqaintances have gone on to lives of squalid behavior, life intertia and other assorted afflictions credited to strippers, but not publicized about the non-sex-industry employed woman. And these bitches are the professional types who sneer at other women, but won't cop to problems for fear of image tarnishing.
Sorry for the bile, but I've had my share of discrimination from being a dancer......as if being greedy, hot and sexual was a crime!

I hate that. i think a lot of people are very closed minded when it comes to what we do. At least you weren't lectured about your job at the club, like I was by a customer just months ago. Why he was there if it bothered him so much, I don't know!

That I can handle, but this was a full on job-bashing! Telling me that I don't respect myself or my body for being a stripper, and that I'm going to end up a junkie and a loser in society... yadah yadah. You know the type. But in the club for crying out loud?!?!

My boyfriend says the same thing. He always said stripping is "lowering yourself". It depends on the girl I think. If you are prostituting yourself then you are lowering yourself. But if you dance for money and make a good living doing it it isn't "lowering yourself" at all, it is IMPOWERING yourself!

There's no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and you are the imagination of yourself. Here's Tom with the weather...!"- Bill Hicks, The Greatest Comedian Ever!

I personally do not think that is very appropriate to say. There are many girls who have worked as escorts, including girls on this board, who would be offended by your comment. If you voluntarily chose it, enjoy it, and do not feel degraded by it, you are not "lowering yourself". Sure, it might not be for you, but other girls can do it with no problem.

Saying "stripping is okay, but prostitution is not" is no different than your boyfriend saying stripping is not okay. It's hurtful to the party involved, and I think sex workers need to be supportive of each other instead of sinking to catty remarks.

It wasn't ment to be a catty remark and I'm sorry if you were offended by my comment. But don't you think taking a man's money without having to sleep with them is more impowering than giving him what he wants? I know many girls who did extras and I was fine with that. Different strokes for different folks. But it just isn't something I could do myself because I would feel like I was lowering myself. Just my opinion.

Right, I know it was your opinion, but you were presenting it in a way that says "I am better because I do not do these things." You still are. It's just potentially hurtful. I too like being able to take men's money with as little work as possible, but some girls find that hooking is a far better job for them than dancing. To each their own.

Mee too I had my share of customers telling me : sometimes I wonder why a pretty girl like you is doing this ??? And they say that while getting a dance !!! Also I had this guy actually saying he was trying to SAVE me !!!! I don't need to be rescued ! I'm not in danger !! Why do people always think this job is bad and that you are in danger doing it ??? People don't know shit and their judgement is only based on what they hear or see in movies but if they tried it they would know it's not bad !

Yeah, grinding on guys until they spooged on me for $20 and being lucky if I left with $300 a night is so empowering compared to spending a week in Hong Kong with perfect gentleman, all expenses paid plus ten grand in my pocket...I mean, that's just so degrading.

I hate guys like that. A couple of weeks ago, this customer I've known for a while (who I thought was pretty cool before this) said "I want to take you away from all this." I like my job and I hate it when guys think we're stripping because we HAVE to be, not because we want to be.

Whoa! No need to get upset. I just stated my personal opinion. Like I said before, different strokes for different folks. I, ME, would feel like shit if I slept with a man for money, you may not feel the same way and that is fine. I felt that I may have gone home with less money than most girls I worked with but at least I had some dignity and I wasn't putting myself at risk for HIV and other things. I knew a lot of girls who tricked for money and I seen what it did to their mind and it was a very sad thing. You may make more money but what you lose mentaly isn't worth it to me. But like I said, THAT IS JUST ME. Do what you want to do.

but some could apply your way of thinking to stripping as well. "what you lose mentally isn't worth it."

Stripping can also be very emotionally draining I think especially after many years. I basically got to a point where the money I was making simply wasn't worth it to me anymore. Maybe all I needed was a super long "break" to recharge my batteries. But after quitting nearly 3 months ago, I've still no desire to go back. I don't even miss it. Weird huh?

oh and I hated the wanna be "savers"

I think most of the time it's part of the fantasy. Guys come in wanting sweet, sick, violent, degradation, superiority, or prince charming fantasies. No matter what job you do there's always a guy wanting to save you from it partly because that's their traditional role. People come to the club for a stress release. Some of them feel better when they feel superior then us. I think the trick is to take enough time for yourself that their state of mind and their judgements don't pollute what you think of your job.

Yes I agree LoveSexMoney, dancing can be very emotionally draining as well. I think the industry as a whole can be very draining. It has it's high points and low points. At times you feel on top of the world and other times you feel like your at the bottom of the barrel. It got to the point I felt like I was at the bottom of the barrel all the time which was another reason I quit dancing. I miss the money a lot though and it's easy to miss when you go from making that amount of money to making a couple bucks an hour at some crap job. Anyway you look at it though, every job is degrading in some ways.

    So, according to you, I:

    have no dignity
put myself at risk for HIV
    have lost "mentally"

Do you know what I think is a very sad thing? Putting down others in order to feel better about yourself.

personally, I think any job where a woman gets to take money from men for little or no work is empowering to the female. If I were a single female, I think I would either be a prostitute or an escort....hell if prostitution were legal and Dea wanted to do it...I would have no problems with it, now if she wanted to become a nun,I would throw a damn fit!

In my book, it's only "degrading" or "lowering" or "mental loss" if somebody can pay you to keep doing something you hate. (I've had plenty of jobs outside the sex industry that fit this description perfectly.) If you get paid to do something you like, or at least don't mind, then you come out on top, no matter what that job is.

If you *felt* "degraded by stripping, and did it anyway, you would be degraded. If you *feel* empowered, then you are. If somebody can pay you to do what you hate, you're a prostitute. This goes for investment bankers and dentists, too.

I told my friend what I was going to be doing to make money for school and what not and he said "don't you think you're better than that?" I told him "better than what? these girls and guys are normal people who have just as much, if not more, respect for themselves. We have confidence that most people don't have and can make money off of that confidence while we are training to do something else." And even if this is your life's choice its a good living so whats the problem? "Don't you think you're better than that?" PSHHHHHHH!!!!

Everybody too some extent is a prostitute. Myself included. If your providing your time to a company, person, business etc in exchange for monetary gain this is prostituition as far as I'm concerned. The society leads us to believe [email protected]$%ing people over, and cheating is acceptable as long as your a clean cut, suit wearing type . If your just a person trading on what you enjoy, say dancing and are comfortable with your body and realize you can make great money doing so they discriminate.Wrongly I might add. Only because individualism isn't really encouraged in our society all that much.Their has always been a stigma placed on things that aren't the mainstream.Plus the after school movie of the week that depicts stripping in a bad light doesn't help all that much.
