Default quitting dancing...now what am I qualified for

I am still in college working towards an english degree. But in the meantime I need some income...pay rent, bills, tuition etc.... What am I qualified for, I've never done anything else...besides teach ballet, but that won't cut it now. Where can I make close to the same amount? I already started webcam modeling and in 2 days made just $60...but I guess I need to get costomers.

Before I started dancing I must have applied to every Hooters in America. 5 in Florida and 3 in Michigan. Do you think I'll have a better chance if I tell them I dance?

    Sales.

Selling cars can be really good commission but usually requires long hours but sometimes I think if they need girls and if your pretty and can sell, they'll let you work two or three days a week.

Waitressing is really sales too, and you can make really good money in the right places.

I agree with Emily, waitressing in a fine up-scale restaurant part time may serve you well.

    Good luck,

Miss George is right: I went to a very good liberal arts college and the only women (was a women's college) who have a decent job are those who majored in math or science, went on to grad school or who work in totally unrelated technical fields.

I didn't bring this up before because you seemed more interested on a well-paying job while in college, but why not look into the future too?

Ah Hooters...all the degradation of stripping that people typically perceive without all that pesky cash to worry about.

You have little chance of finding another job where you can make money similar to dancing, at least with no real skills or other job background to speak of.

Bartending or cocktailing in a trendy, high-volume place is good money typically. I'm inclined to agree with Emily about looking towards the future now. Do you really need that much to get you through school, or do you just want to live a nice lifestyle while in school?

I simply MUST AGREE. I started dancing after graduating with a degree in French and Int'l Studies and I still haven't gotten around to paying off those student loans.

What am I going to do after dancing? I'm going back to school to learn something practical and to acquire and actual marketable SKILL - cosmetology school. Helps that the beauty industry is something I have always been fascinated with.

Retail, if possible, though the hours may not work with school. bar-tending can be good money (did it for a little while) but, depending on where you are, jobs are hard to get. You can't always walk into a bar-tending job, you generally have to start as a bar-back (washing cups, cutting lemons, crawling around in the muck) and work up.

Lena thats brilliant - selling cars - if you could get a dealership to take you under their wing as such a newbie what a novel idea. I like that ONE!

I wouldnt hit a hooters if I was on my last buck, but thats just me.

Just what WERE you planning on with this English degree? You wonder what you can do now === what of when you complete your studies...what then?

My ex sold cars & did well. They're pretty liberal about hiriing, anyone. But, you must typicially produce well to stay. Upcoming is the 60 day of darkness, after Xmans, & Jan, when things get bad. Hooter, nah. They're pretty picky about hiring, I am gonna try a nice dinner place (PT). Myself, I really don't like a bartending job, although I may consider cocktailing.
Myself, I'm looking to get inside/outside sales rep. where I can make a base salary, benefits, & comission. It takes awhile, but you can build up & make decent money, altho it can vary.

I am kind of offended by everyone attacking my major as if I don't know what I'm doing and I just picked it to pick it. Maybe I am misunderstanding everyone, but I do know where I am going with this.

I also need a well paying job now, because I live alone and don't have anyone to help me out. And I am also receiving fin-aid, but that only covers so much.

    julzgulz,

i don't think people were attacking your major....just pointing out that someone who has a liberal arts degree, without the certification/degree to teach afterwards, might find it hard to get a job. however, since you pointed out that you can teach, your position is stronger. don't worry . oh, good luck on the job hunt....how many hours a week are you willing to work?

I highly agree hun. You picked a great major! Sometimes it's just hard to put into words what we mean by trying to help out with a job to support yourself while finishing up school. Some will try anything and fail, god knows i have, and others do fantastic!

Lotsa luck, get that job and finish your schooling, we need more english teachers!!!

Try bartending. A pretty blonde like you will get hired and can work up quickly- "boobs sell beer." Don't tell customers you used to dance- part of a cute bartender's appeal is for her to seem "available" and approachable ("Girl Next Door.") This is not the best example, but it's the "Coyote Ugly" idea- "you look like a...teacher, and men have a two-year-old in their pants!"

At my club they have a hostess.... she is paid an hour wage plus commission from any dances that she sells on behalf of any dancer. The only thing is.. she sometimes forgets to collect her commission from the dancer! LOL!

I'm contemplating a more "normal" job at my club too... do that once or twice a week whilst dancing three times a week. This way I have a base "salary" via my normal job whilst also being able to make good money dancing. Will have to see how the situation is in re: cocktail waitresses and hostesses at my club.

soooo... why did you quit dancing? Just curious....

Some of the modeling sites are ALWAYS looking for girls, particularly if you're willing to do fetish stuff. There's another thread around here somewhere about fetish modeling. BE CAREFUL who you work for, since there are a lot of fly-by-night-ers out there who will rob you. Otherwise, though......

If you want to teach, you are going to have to get a job far away from the sex worker (example dancer) field. Try to avoid anything that could tie back to you or your image. That's just the way it is with parents and school boards.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

I'm also a college student in Michigan working towards my education degree and I'm looking for something that pays decent besides dancing. There aren't many jobs out there with flexible schedules.
You can use an English degree if it is along with a teaching certificate, which is what I'm doing, and I will be finished in April of next year.
    What college do you attend?

    Hello everyone!

Well this is my first post ever now that i've found this site When I stopped dancing I starting doing phone sex/cam shows full time and so far its working out great. During the holidays I also worked retail for a major department store selling cosmetics. Both jobs worked out great as far as being flexible and while I did phone sex I was able to study between calls. Just thought I would share and maybe give you some ideas
