Default How to politely leave a customer who declines a dance.

Set up- I was talking to a guy & I thought I had it in the bag, but he said "OH after my beers", so then I went on stage, & came back...He tipped me $8..I ask if he's ready yet (It had just gone 2-4-1) and he wasn't.
So how do I politely leave without alienating a tipper, but none dance buyer?
The next guy I wanted to talk to was right next to him, & I dunno it makes it kinda awkward. It wasn't really busy yet either.

Fuck the tippers....focus on the buyers. I just get up, and walk 1 foot over and plop down to the next guy, I don't care if I hurt his feelings, its not like he cares about mine.

Focus on the money, not etiquette.......

Don't forget when a lot of guys say, "later" they really mean, "no". Like LSM said, be polite and move on.

Well, if you really want to say something without leaving (I don't have the heart to just get up and leave either)
Here are a few of my tricks
    1. Okay, well I'll talk to you later
    2. Well, it was nice meeting you, hope you have some fun tonight!
    3. I have to go to the bathroom, I'll be back soon
    4. Well, thanks for getting that 2 for 1 and I'll be back in a few.
    5. Well, I think I'm going to go change.
And if you feel like telling the truth
    5. Well, I have to go make my rounds, have fun and I'll talk to you later.
Well, those are my secrets to not making them feel uncared for because they didn't want to shell out and sometimes, I do check up on them and they are ready fo that dance that they weren't sure they wanted.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

if it's really slow, chit chat cause you'll have a better chance of getting a dance from somebody that way. however, DON'T waste your time if there's a lot of guys around. i made that mistake at first too. you'll get over feeling guilty or awkward for leaving. i usually chit chat for about one song, ask if they want a dance, and if they don't i say "ok! well let me know if you'd like one later! have a great night!" with a big smile. and you're off to the next guy. and you don't seem rude at all because you were friendly and cheerful. oh, and sometimes, if you go back later, they'll buy a dance because you took time out before to talk with them.

    I just say nicely...

"Well I just want to make sure you're having a good time here tonight sweetie. And speaking of that, I'm sure somebody here wants to have fun, so when you're ready too, let me know."

Though a lot of the time if it's busy I don't even waste my breath with that and just say "Ok" and on to the next guy. Like Katrine, I can be rather mercenary at times, and proud of it.

Besides, any guy that's been to an SC more than once will at some point get an inkling that you have to go make your money. If he doesn't get that, he's too dumb to breed.

I wouldn't say you have to go to the bathroom or you're going to be back later unless you really mean it. If you say you'll be right back and you go sit down by another customer right away and you don't come back, the guy you were sitting with before will notice and he'll think you're dishonest or just trying to make an excuse to get away from him. If a customer is very rude or annoying, I've been guilty of making lame excuses and then sitting by someone else. But if the customer is a decent guy and he turns down a dance or says "Maybe later", then I just smile and say something along the lines of "Well, I'm gonna go socialize with the other guys in here for a while. If you'd like to have some fun later on, just let me know. Have a good night!"

For the record, I do not advocate being rude to the customer at all. NinaDaisy's advice, as usual, is perfect. If there is time, I usually give a smile, a wink, and a nudge, tell them to enjoy their beverage and I'm in too much demand so I'll check back. But I do stand by what I said, keep it in your mind at all times.

    Good luck!

Gypsy girlchild (nice name btw), I do the same thing. 9 times out of ten take the honest approach, even with my regulars, and tell them that I have to make money and will get back to them later if I have time.

I don't want them to think that I will just sit around for jack all. My time = £££ so it's the subtlest way to actually get that across to them without being mean or impatient.

Katrine- From now on at work I'm going to think What Would Katrine Do?
Nina- haha Case in point, a customer actually asked me why I was talking to him....
Thanks for all the advice! I think I like the being honest approach, unless he's really obnoxious.

Whatever else you do, try to be "nice" and/or "polite" about it - 'cause you are in a service industry and it will come back to haunt you in some form or fashion if you get in the habit of being rude to people - but beyond that, don't worry about it: this is your business, most guys are well aware of that and, if they're not, they need the education anyway.

the polite thing works pretty good. i sometimes get dances lateron in the night because guys were impressed that i wasn't rude/belligerent about their refusals.

Well, always be polite. You never know when he might come in again and the next time he could be in the mood or change his mind.

I always say one of the following:

"Ok, well I have to get out there and make my rounds but if you need me, let me know."

"Have a really great time, let me know if you change your mind."

If he is with a group, I say "let me know if you would like to buy your buddy a dance or if someone needs me." Almost always they do....

If you say your going to the bathroom/touching up make-up etc....make sure you really come back if you tell him you are. It makes you look pretty bad or just after his cash if you don't. If you come back, he may feel as though you are really interested in him and may change his mind.
