    Default Audition help

    Hello all,

I've decided I would like to start dancing. I already know which club I want but I'm a bit concerned and nervous about starting. They seem to have an odd way of auditioning people. You have to dance for the amature night infront of a crowd. There is a cash prize, but I've been told that generally that goes to pro's that are just in town for the week and want quick money without getting a city lisence. In other words, you are not expected to win, just put on a good show. If the management likes you, then you are hired.

Well, I'm very nervous about this and want to know ways I could prepare for it. I've gone to the club a few times (there are other clubs in my area but this one seems the "cleanest" and I feel comfortable sitting there). There is just one main stage with two poles and a mirror along the back wall. Eeek!! How does one prepare for something like that? Thanks everyone!

    Hey Nikki

I've done several amateur contests. There's no way around it, you'll be super nervous. My most important advice: Get a cute outfit and good shoes, make sure you look your best, pick an upbeat song (easier than a slow song), bring your song on CD (in case the dj doesn't have it) and dance slowly. Smile, don't worry about pole tricks, make eye contact with people, and be confident! Practice at home, practice taking off your clothes with your shoes on and practice walking in your heels.

At the contest, be nice to the house girls and the other contestants, and remember that even if you don't win, you could get hired, so let that be your only goal. If you win, great!! If not, oh well, at least you got up there and did it, and you may score yourself a job.

    Good luck!

Oh and one more thing... some places have "cattle call" contests and some are much classier. By cattle call, I mean after every girl is done with her song, they have all of you go back out together, buck-nekkid, and dance to one more song together. Then you line up and the audience claps as they announce your name, and whoever gets the most applause wins. So if you bring a group of people to cheer for you, you'll have better odds of winning. However, my very first contest I didn't bring anyone, I'd never been on-stage before, and I won out of 13 girls, some who were pros. So, you never know. Or you'll get lucky and you won't have to do the cattle call dance, in which case the managers pick the winner.
