I think tanning just makes you look better. You might want to try Mystic Tan or a self tanner if you're concerned about maintaining healthy skin.

I would tan, most girls look better with a tan. If you're worried about damaging your skin, you could always use a self-tanner. The only self-tanner I've used is Bain de Soleil about 7 years ago and I didn't like it, it didn't look natural and it made my skin look orangey. But if you do a search on here, I'm sure there are plenty of threads which give advice on which self-tanners look the most natural.

there is a lot of information about self-tanners on here...
The resounding favorite is L'Oreal Sublime Bronze or Mystic Tan for those girls who like to splurge.

I used to think tanning was silly, but I feel sexier with one, so it's worth it.

Love, the bronze, but prefer the gel for the face. Otherwise my face looks too shimmery, kinda like an oil slick.

I definitely say go for the tan color but a sunless tan can look just as good as an indoor tan. I personally quit the beds because my chest started freckling and, well... I think that is icky.

Anyway... try an airbrush tan if you have a good provider in your area. They can be a bit expensive but can look really good - especially if you get it done the day before you work and let it set for the recommended 12 hours. My other choice is (as everyone else suggests) the L'oreal Sublime Bronze. I use the medium/deep gel and love it. I put it on, go to sleep and wake up bronze. If it feels a bit tacky after 20 minutes it is ok... it won't end up streaky if you go to bed at that point.

Bronzer doesn't work at all on us super-pasty-white girls (think casper).

Here in Texas a 365 24/7 tan is where it's at.

I have tanned ONCE in my life, and just ended up itchy and sweaty.. I know you have to start gradually, but screw killing my skin.

I am considering the "Mystic Tan" spray on tans that you can get done professionally.

do Mystic or the lotion (I'd do the spray tan all the time, but I'm cheap and you can get the bottle tan right with practice). I'm German/Polish so you know I have very white skin too, and it looks really nice.

A tan skin is definately more attractive on many girls than NO TAN, but if you feel you must, please use a self tanning system or Mystic Tan. In this day and age where we are so informed of the consequences of our actions, it is silly to subject ones self to tanning booth rays when we know that they increase our chances of cancer, more so than normal UVA and UVB rays of the sun do.

Tan is beautiful, but if you can achieve it without harming yourself, then that is even more so.

In case any other pasty girls are tanning-shy: I've just started using that Airbrush Legs stuff all over, since I am VERY pasty and an actual tan (fake, since I burn) would look pretty bad on me outside of the club. I use the lightest color, and spray lightly all over-gives me a normal skin tone, instead of a monitor tan. It does help make my skin look smoother and looks a lot better under the lights. Then I go home and wash it off. Back to pasty.

there was a post about that airbrush makeup recently...

A girl got it all over a guy's pants and was forced (by her club) to pay his dry cleaning bill.

I love tanning.I prefer tanning in a bed rather than the spray on method. It stays on a lot longer.

I would say,"Go for tanning! It makes you look better and feels good especially in the winter. It is also a great way to keep your skin looking tight and free from acne.

I don't feel 'done up' unless I'm tan. I'm with a lot of the other girls here. Loreal sublime is the best.

Try the hand airbrushing tans that you can get at some salons. Its the most natural looking; here it runs about $30/tan and only lasts less than a week.

OMG....don't use UV light to treat acne!

You are trading acne for prematre aging and skin cancer. There's other stuff you can use for acne!

If you exfoliate and moisturise... I don't see any problems with tanning. Your skin will age regardless. I personally prefer to tan under the real thing (the sun) however not everyday is good for that (too windy, too cloudy, etc)....

Personally, I would strive to "expose" yourself to 15 mins of sun each day if possible. Its healthy and our body requires it. There is a chemical reaction that takes place when we are exposed to the sun.... that does help us not hinder us. We do need SOME exposure to the sun.

I tan in the beds a couple of times a week. It gives me enough color to look good under the lights at work w/o looking too tan. During the winter I up it to 3 times a week. Otherwise I get that SAD, and the UV lights of the bed seem to help counter that.

I'm not that worried about skin cancer from the beds. I know I did FAR more damage to my skin as a swimmer and life-guard when I was growing up. I just make sure I get checked once a year by a dermatologist for anything 'off'.

Oh! I skipped the tanning bed and went out and bought the Loreal Sublime everyone was talking about. It looks really nice, except tops of hands and feet from washing were white so I added tanner and then they were orange, oops. I went to the Dollar Store and bought a pack of 100 gloves so I can do it with the gloves and then (saw this in another thread) use a makeup sponge to apply to hands and tops of feet. Im going to do this tomorrow. Dont worry, Im not going to tan to treat acne... I made an appt with a dermatologist... but its funny.. I used that fake tan and I swear the acne is going away.. I think just having the color on my face covers the whiteheads. Who knows?!

Yes, we get a vitamin from the sun... C? I'll have to consult my nutrition book. I believe it is vitamin C because I remember my teacher mentioning up north people can get deficient because they dont see enough sun and they dont live in an area where citrus fruits are easily available. The longer fruit sits on a truck to get where its going it loses its potency. I believe this is correct but Im not 100% sure. BUT if you live in sunny areas like CA and FL you have nothing to worry about.. sit in the sun or eat an orange... same thing.

It's vitamin D that you get from the sun...but vitamin D helps absorption of calcium, which helps absorption of C...
