    ~Atkins Diet~

OK, ne peeps here know anything bout the REAL Atkins diet? i mean we all know you have to avoid carbs, and 3 main bread, pasta and potatoes.. but iv been living on sausages the last couple of days and drinking a heck of alot of water.. is it normal to drink alot of water? and how long does it take for you body to get used 2 lack of carbs, AND start to shed the pounds? because i think its making me put on weight rather than loose weight!! AND (sorry bout all the questions...) but are you only allowed certain types of sausages if your on it.. like can you eat the one's out of the local chippy (deep fat fried??) or DO they have to be strictly grilled at home? becasue im gonna try to this diet as strict as possible? and any other 'quick' bites to eat, that are allowed? any help would be appreciated thanks. xx

You need to get the book-Atkin's Diet Revolution. Read it fully, and follow the instructions exactly. With Atkins, its all or nothing, you can't just not eat bread. You must force your body into ketosis, an almost diabetic state. I've seen lots of results in people who have serious weight issues.

I also know that you cannot drink coffee or alcohol at all for the first 2 weeks. That was a deal breaker for me......

Oh, and if the chip shops in Ireland are anything like the ones I've seen in England and Scotland....you should almost NEVER eat those, all lard!

I strongly recommend you join It saved my life.

Sausage isn't the best thing for you to be eating and DO NOT eat it if it's deep fat fried. Try more lean protein...chicken and fish. Lots of green veggies. It's so simple to cook broccoli.

You're probably bloated right now. Try taking some fiber pills cuz you're going to be all stopped up from the proteins. It took me until half way through the second week to notice a major weight loss...and only five pounds at that but I was only in it to lose 15.

You are allowed 21 grams of carbs per day. USE THEM.

Also...if you must drink alchohol, stick to light white wines or straight vodka. OH, and if you need something crunchy go for pork rinds...they give you that crunchy fix you need!! After the first two weeks, it's easy sailing!

Well, the whole point is to get rid of all the bad carbs and then slowly introduce good carbs. It's like any diet...if you give it up and go back to your normal eating habits, all the work is undone.

As with all things, even on this diet, what you consume must be done in moderation. Otherwise, you'll lose the weight all right, but end up with high cholesterol or high blood pressure, not exactly a good thing.

Honestly, the South Beach Diet is much better, and better for you. I lost 20 pounds on it last spring....went into its maintenance schedule and plan to drop another 30 (I gained 10 back by cheating) using it. It's an Atkins style diet but not nearly as restrictive and it doesn't place as much of a strain on your body. Plus, when you are done with the diet it's easier to eat more healthily because the cornerstone of the diet is just that...eating more healthy. Get the book and read it...

Yes, the SB diet was designed originally for clients of a Miami cardiologist. Many of his patients were coming in overweight and at risk of diabetes, and even though some of this wasn't his specialty, he started putting them on a diet that he designed that was meant to lower their cholesterol and triglycerides, and also to lose some weight to take strain off their hearts. When he saw that it worked really well he decided that he wanted to go punlic with it. The initial 2 week phase that gets you into ketosis is the hardest part, but the novelty of it sort of helps you thru it. The second part is a lot less restrictive than Atkins, you can have some carbs (his big deal is "good carbs" vs "Bad carbs"), and he even says if there some things you just can't live without, then don't live without them...have them in moderation.

The diet is meant to cut down on fats and "bad carbs"...bad carbs being foods that are heavy on processed sugar. This includes things like bread made from anything other than whole wheat, potatoes, white rice, etc. Once you're in the main phase of the diet, it's lots of water, nuts, lean cheese, eggs, lean meats and green veggies and such. Not a lot of fruits initially, although you can work some kinds in later. NO breads for a while and when you can have them it's true whole wheat (and we're not talking Roman Meal here...if you can squish it in your hand, it's not good for you).

There's a good book out called "The Maker's Diet" It allows you to eat from all food groups and is a much healthier option than the Atkins Diet.

I would suggest switching to veggies instead of sausage. Sausage is a processed, denautred, lifeless food with chemicals galore added, and a ton of salt. Do you think such a food could sustain life. The chances of that food sustaining life is equal to killing something and then bringing it back to life. Some would call that a miracle.

How can a food that has been killed, cooked, preserved with chemicals, packaged, and sat on a store shelf for sometimes months nourish your body ? Answer, it cant. (not to mention pigs are disgusting animals that eat each other and feast on their own shit (which is probably than the food they are fed at the feedlots))

Start eating some real food and you will start losing weight and feeling good at the same time. It saddens me that with all the medical knowledge available that someone would still eat a "food" like sausage. Get some fruits and veggies in your diet asap. A meat based diet is the worst thing you could do to your body. Look at the diets of all the thin and long lived peoples of the world and they are almost entirely vegetables with minimal amounts of animal food. The Hunza people of Pakistan are perfect examples. They eat a diet of mainly apples, apricots, and other fresh fruits and vegetables. 97.5 percent of thier calories come from fruits and vegetables. They only eat meat a few times a year for ceremonies and they drink raw goat milk occasionally. These people are truly amazing as disease is unknown there. Hunza's commonly live to 120 and men 100 years old have been known to father children. You can see 90 year old men playing fierce soccer games. 60 is still considered young there. Nobody needs glasses, nobody has cavaties, nobody gets cancer. They die in their sleep from natural causes, at very old ages. They somehow do all of this without sausage.

These are the people we should be following for diet advice. Not some moron who got rich telling people to eat all the meat, butter and fat they desire. If you feel you need fat, eat some olives or an avocado. At least they have a nutritional value to them.

Diets make me so nervous. I've seen a lot of folks end up in bad ways, Atkins-users too. I hope it works for you though... be safe!

The BEST thing you can do, expensive but safer, is to visit a dietician and have a custom diet drawn up for you....many working models have to do this because their agencies keep them at a certain thin weight (weigh ins, penalties for gaining pounds......it's their job to stay skinny.) Everyone's body chemistry and metabolism is different.
Please don't do anything that will make you sick.......
