You might want to try setting your hair in rollers, after taking them out, flip your head over and put some hairspray in as you are pulling down on the curls. But it might not hold for very long -- maybe an hour or so.

I know mousse is so 80's, but put a dollop of it in damp hair them blowdry it upside down and that'll get some volume going at the roots. Also, if you curl it with a curling iron, spraying a little light-hold hairspray on each section before you curl it will help hold the style longer.

Hot rollers are great. My hair is very fine and straight and I have a hard time holding style in my hair. A great product I use for adding body is Redken's "Fat Cat" body booster thickening lotion for fine hair.

You need to use some kind of volumizer...a styling aid that will help give you some texture and volume to your hair. I am not too sure what it is because I have VERY curly hair and when I straighten out the curls (or put different curls in) it stays forever with all kinds of volume. Of course, the down side is that I look like I have a 'fro in humidity.

Pureology makes a great spray gel (i was a die hard mousse fan until i found this recently) that has a color protectant in it (and if you're a strict vegan it's vegan friendly)...it's the only thing that gets my hair to do anything and I mean ANYTHING! If I'm going for curly with my tripple barrel curling iron, I also use Redken Hot Sets ( think that's the name).

Just be careful with the volumizing products...they tend to contain allot of alchohol in them which dries out the hair.

I have very straight fine hair too. The makeup artist at my club did it HUGE and very curly a couple nights ago. He used a curling iron to curl it all over then sprayed with hairspray then teased it quite a bit. I never imagined my hair could be that big- definatly bigger than just curling it. I had some trouble detangling it the new next though.

    I have natural wave.

After shampooing, while hair is damp, I mousse the roots -> blow dry upside down -> shake it out -> spray the top.
