    Default Bikini Shaving Tips

I shave the bikini area and always end up with unsightly bumps and red marks...and the stubble is impossible. Then I let it grow out a little, and the first time I shave its really smooth..but then it gets ugly fast until I let it grow out for a few days. I ahve tried Bikini Zone, new razor blades every time, and Neosporin. Any tips?

i was fighting with the hair also but finally got lasered. now it is all gone and smooth
    was woth it.
with shaving it starts to grow back just the day after.... if you have sensitive skin and you get bumps you cant do it every day.

I heard lasering was painful... to keep that really smooth option, is waxing a doable alternative?

Well, I've had my bikini area lasered a total of 7 times by 2 different laser centers. The first 6 times, I only paid to have a regular job (anything that might pop out of a bikini). I would say it hurt maybe a quarter as much as waxing, but was irritated (like a sunburn) for about 3 days. I still had a small amount of hair after this. So I went to another center with a different, newer laser and had a very different experience.
This time I opted for a brazilian style and it barely hurt at all. I can't imagine waxing after this because it hurts so much worse and my skin is really sensitive. 20 minutes after I left the laser center, you couldn't even tell I had done anything. This was just yesterday though so I'm hoping it was effective! Anyways, if you have sensitive skin, and can afford it, I would highly recommend getting laser treatments. It is the only way I've been able to control my red bumps besides what everyone else has recommended.

I don't remember the manufacturer, But the brochure I have lists it as an IPL-RF laser. I don't know if the type of laser actually made a difference this time or the setting it was on (as this was my 1st visit with the new laser). When you progress through your treatments, they gradually turn the laser up which might irritate your skin more. A good forum for more information is http://www.consumerbeware.com/forum/default.asp

What I do is change razors on every third shave. I use BikiniZone Anti-bumps shave gel to exfoliate (dead skin cells get clogged in pores and may contribute to red bumps) while I'm shaving. After I get done I dry off and put on rubbing alcohol with a cotton swab it actually doesn't hurt unless you cut yourself (the alcohol actually kills bacteria which causes a lot of ingrown hairs) and then after it dries I put on men's Gilette after shave conditioner for sensitive skin to prevent drying (If its good enough for my boyfriend to put on his face I can put it down there.) This regimen works really great for me.

I swear by shaving with hair conditioner and putting on Bikini Zone after. The key is not pressing down hard when you shave!!!

I have really sensitive skin too!! One thing I've noticed though is that I have alot less irritation if I shave under running water in the shower...

I know this is an old thread. But I was reading an article not long ago about porn stars and secrets of the biz. SOme of them use Visine to get rid of shaving bumps and redness out.

Makes sense. Visine-gets the red out.

I swear, yesterday I was thinking about using Visine. Has anyone actually tried this? How effective is it?? I gotta find something that works!

I tried it awhile back. I actually did it at the suggestion of a dr. friend of mine....works on blemishes too.

Visine will work as a temporary fix, the only problem is that it increases the time of healing because of blood vessel constriction (getting the red out). As far as razor bumps go you should exfoliate well but not too much as to cause irritation, use a fresh razor, shave in the direction of hair growth and then go against the grain once and very lightly...a good soak in the bathtub or a hot shower helps too. blah blah blah...kitty hair.

I'm probably going to get lynched for asking this.

Is there any work for girls that don't shave their bikini line? - I think it looks sexier.

An old friend of mine swore by the hair conditioner trick...she would put conditioner on her hoo-ha right when she got in the shower and let it sit for awhile then shave.....
I do that and NEVER use shaving gels/lotions...only Dove soap.....and no bumps at all.

I have had this problem but a girl told to try this out and I have never had any porblems since. I only use a venus razor and skintimate shaving gel for sensitive skin. I only use the razor two times on my bikini area, two times on my underarms, and two times on my legs. If I use it more than that I get razor burn. After I get out of the shower I lightly dry off. Then I use Johnson and Johnson baby powder on my bikini area. I do this every time I take a shower whether I shave or not. I never get bumps anymore. Try is and tell me how it works for you.

Discovered a new trick this month. Bought my man some sensitive after shave called Bump Patrol. It has no scent (unlike Bikini Zone) and feels like baby oil but works better than Bikin Zone. Really good to shave with and put on after.
