Okay, so I've only been dancing for 3 months this time. The last time I danced was about 8 years ago, though I remember, idiots that they were, management was never quite so involved with the club or the dancers. Last night I brought a new cd of music. All the girls tend to dance to the same crap, so the dj likes that I bring in some new stuff. After one of my sets, he calls me over to tell me that I can't dance to a certain song (Female of the Species, by Space) because the manager "doesn't like it". She had no particular objection about it-it's not rap, or full of offensive language. She just doesn't like it. Why is this okay? Even if I owned a place, if I was going around telling people what they can and cannot do, I would expect to get looked at as a crazy person. She also makes us dance to her daughter's horrible band, while the dj has to pimp it out. When the one bouncer pockets our fine money, we aren't allowed to say he took it-it was "misplaced". They stand at the bar and gossip about us (one of the bouncers in particular trys to get info on us), and don't pay attention to what may be going on. Etc etc etc.
Is this standard? I like this place, so maybe I should just avoid her, but that would mean no weekends. I'm sure places are different. I'm used to management being perverts, or lazy, but not quite so involved in everything and everyone.
