The Palace. San Antonio, TX.
Setup: This is the nicest club in San Antonio. Its not exactly a gown club, but they try to keep the class high. There are 3 stages, no poles. The place is a brightly lit, with an open floor plan, so hanky-panky is difficult to achieve. The back area of the club is the mini-VIP, and any guy or group can go back there with a $140 purchace of White Star. Upstairs is the VIP, a darker, more intimate enclosed area with a window to see the action below. VIP has its own bar, and the music is very low. Apparently the VIP is not very popular. Memberships can be purchased, or a bottle of Dom for $350 for the night.
Hiring: My friend got hired there the night before, but when I came to meet her, she was twiddling her thumbs and not ready. So at almost 10pm, I sucked it up and went myself. I was a bit worried they would not take me so late. The doorgirl had me fill out paperwork immediately. I bluffed and told them that my GM from my Austin club was "lending" me out with the highest recommendation. They bought it, although I know Frank would back me either way. There was no audition, I did not have to do a thong test or anything, floorguy told me to get dressed and gave me tour.
There is a choice of smoking and non-smoking dressing rooms. I chose non-smoking hoping the girls there would be more professional and have less drama. Wrong, same as everywhere, typical stipper drama. I quicky got dressed in a long purple gown and was given a tour, and set free to conquer the club.
Dress: No booty shorts. Two-piece outfits are discouraged but I saw several very cute skirt sets. I wore a long purple gown with 2 slits up the sides, and was told that is the ideal atire.
Dancer Quality: Very good looking girls, mostly 8-9 range. About 65% were enhanced. Most were white or hispanic. I didn't see any big or thick girls. My friend said they were very catty to her on the first night, but I didn't have any problem as I act totally oblivious to the girls and their drama. At the end of the night one girl had some money stolen from the dressing room (she had left it out) and there was some drunken Columbo style detective work, but nothing that involved me. I couldn't help but chuckle to myself though how similar that is to every single club I have EVER worked.
Stage: Tipping is really a city in China here. The DJ really talked me up as "first time anywhere" (like it was my first night ever, ha!) and I did ok onstages, but there is definately no pervert row. I saw many girls not make a dollar. I did receive a $20 stage tip from one guy though, so that was cool. I paid the DJ $20 to stay offstage the second time because it was nearing last call and I had customers waiting for dances.
Contact: There is one wall in the back where most customers prefer to get dances because there is a slight illusion of privacy. A few girls did dances along the back wall of mini-VIP, but I don't think that is technically allowed. Customer sits in a big high back chair. Contact is medium two-way, but only one customer of mine touched me at all on the legs and arms. Most keep their hands to the side of their chair. Boob/butt groping is NOT generally done, and I did not observe any heavy grinding. Dances are $20.
The rules state that one foot must be on the ground the entire time but I didn't really see that being followed. I did most of my dances on the main floor right under the DJ booth for one customer and one girl most of the night. At one point the girl was getting a bit aggressive with me "simulating" certain acts. Later, manager told me to keep it cool when in a high-profile prominant space in the middle of the club. Then he pointed out more private areas. He did not chastise me or give me any trouble, just kind of a heads up in a pleasant way.
Clientele: Lots of groups since it was a Friday night. A few couples but not that many. Mostly white-collar, but its hard to tell on a weekend. Definately spenders in the place, I had no trouble selling dances almost non-stop. At least 4:1 customer/dancer ratio. Apparently this is where the Spurs hang out when in town. At one point I had a queue of customers standing waiting for me to give them the next dance, which was a nice little ego enhancer (like I really need it!)![]()
Management: Robby is the manager. Mike was the DJ. There are several floormen, but I do not recall their names. Everyone is very friendly.
Scheduling: None that I know of.
Fees: No house fees for the first night. I tipped management $30, DJ $40 ($20 of it was to keep me offstage). I also gave an extra $10 to the bartender because I had a bunch of dance tickets and they are processed at the bar. $20 to waitress for being very helpful and professional. Except for DJ and housefees, no tipping is required but I think generosity goes a long way.
Earnings Potential: In less than 4 hours, I made between $500-600. This is about the same as I would make in Austin. Since I was staying in a hotel across the street and didn't have to drive, I allowed myself a couple of shots which hurts my game as I get chatty. Potentially I could have done $60-100 more. But it was a fun change. Management was extremely pleased with me as told me they looked forward to me coming back anytime.
Rating: 3.75 out of 5.![]()
