are you talking about a main course? appetizers?

How about cornish game hens if your budget allows? Me, I'm making mini sausage/cheese balls for an appetizer. yummy!

Hmm, I am making tofu turkey, veggies, stuffing, taters, mac & cheese, and some casserole that I haven't picked yet. For my sweeth tooth; Apple pies, pumpkin, etc.

I knew a guy totally obsessed with having Turducken that he had a dream that someone stole his turducken. Cornish game hens kick ass and they're so cute, dead and cute. A good appetizer would be red grapes with rouqefort cheese all over them and then rolled in toasted pecans, sounds weird but they are super tasty. Make a giant slab o' cow.

I didn't like the Tofurkey, the 'drumettes' or whatever the name were just bleh. At least the way my ex's mom prepared it - I like the slices when I cook them up now. This year I'll be getting two Veat breasts: http://www.veat.com/products.html [third item]. Be tasty and cheaper.
Other good stuff [got help from the BF on here] Pies! Lots of pie! My family only has pumpkin and chocolate cream for thanksgiving, though.
    Succatash [no idea on spelling!]
broccoli or brussel sprouts with cheese, or crumbs, or lemonbutter
Rolls/bicuits [Pillsbury is your friend!] served warm with jam and butter
Mashed or boiled potatoes [I'm a fan of boiled]
    Gravy
Stuffing - I think everyone has their own recipe for it, so many variations
    Stuffed mushrooms
    Squash or sweet potato boiled/mashed
    Tuna/chicken casserole
Sweet potatoes w/ brown sugar baked with marshmallows on top
cherry tomatoes in creamy ranch sauce
fruit salads or sorbets individually served
    steamed cauliflower with black pepper
baked potatoes with indivual fixings: sour cream, cheese, cream of celery soup [extra thick], bacon/ham bitlies, broccoli, chives, etc. etc.
    potato salad
    mac'n'cheese
    rice and tomato sauce

My friend's mother wanted to make Turducken with bacon strips on top. O.O

    mmmm. food.

the first 4 letters of "turducken" are

    TURD.

just in case no one else noticed.

it just seems so bizarre. would anyone stuff beef inside venison inside...i dunno...a ham? i'm certainly not vegetarian but it just seems like overkill. like..."how many animals can i kill and eat at once?"

what was that one they made on malcolm and the middle last year, it was a real recipe, it was i think the whole turducken thing, but also stuffed into a whole 4 foot monkfish, and then baked. gross.

oh...yeah. in keeping with the thread though. mashed taters. candied yams. waldorf salad. my mom makes this weird lime jello-whipped cream-pomegranate thing that is great. ambrosia. pecan pie. that green bean casserole with the french fried onions on top.of course stuffing, we always have 2 or 3 kinds because my dad likes cornbread dressing, my mom like normal stovetop style stuff and i make my own.uhhhh. oh yeah my mother also make these hors'd'ouvres (HTF do you spell that?) that are easy but delicious....deli ham smeared with cream chees the rolled up with a green onion in the middle. oh and she makes fudge too. i love thanksgiving, but i know i'll probably put on 10 pounds this weekend. i looked at the recipe i have for candied yams last year , and i think it was something RIDICULOUS like...2400 calories A SERVING. just for one serving of that, nevermind the rest of the meal.

The drumettes weren't very good, but the roast is great! (The roast no longer comes with the drumettes either.)
Veat is super yummy too. I love to put it in everything.

Hmmm...I like this thread (cooking is a favorite of mine). Try goose or duck...personally I prefer duck. Lots of things that you can do with either of them. I'm a huge fan of duck confit...which is essentially marinated duck with the skin removed, then simmered in it's own fat for about 3 hours. Yes I know it sounds a little gross--but the result actually has much less fat than regular duck with the skin left on--and it is probably the best tasting poultry you will ever have in your life. Of course, you do have to start the recipe a week in advance...but hey...

My personal fave is baked yams covered with little marshmellows.
