Ok Mothers...I have a question for you.

I was watching the Today Show this morning, and Al was talking to a mother who had her 3 month old baby with her. I noticed something on the baby however. Pierced EARS!!

Is this normal..........to give a 3 month old baby piercings????

Maybe my head has been in the sand....but something about this doesn't seem right.
I've heard that a good signiture sets you apart from everyone.
    Well......is this good enough???

I know a lot of women that get their kid's ears pierced at one month old, I don't see the point of it. Maybe it's a fashion statement at that young. I mean no one wants their babies crawling into the daycare at one month old without some bling bling, ya know. lol

I personally think it's freakin ridiculous. An infant does NOT need to be fashionable like that, it's the parents' vanity being pushed on the baby. When I worked at Walmart, I worked in the Jewelry department. We had to pierce ears there, and many parents brought their children in. I'd say that about 30% of the children actually wanted the piercings, the rest it was being forced on. I NEVER pierced the ears of little tiny babies, others did, but I would not.

I had both of my daughters ears peirced at 6 weeks old. My oldest daughter had no hair and everyone thought she was a boy. With the youngest it was a mommy and daughters spirtual moment. I also had mine done at 6 weeks.

I waited until my daughter was old enough to BEG for them before getting hers done. They lasted about 3 weeks before she was taking a shirt off and the earrings started ripping out. She was 5 and never wears earrings anymore.

I dont understand getting a babys done either. Who knows, maybe when they grow up they dont WANT holes in their ears. What if in 14 years thats the UNcool thing to have. The baby didnt have a choice.

To every one his own i guess

My sister and I both had our ears pierced as infants. I remember watching my little sister get her ears pierced as an infant as well. I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm going to ask my mother about it, I have this feeling that it has absolutely nothing to do with fashion in our situation.

I had my daughter's ears pierced when she was very young, a couple months. I had mine done when I was young too. I think single piercings are understated yet still allow for personal adornment. She has a lovely collection of earrings and she sometimes wears a pair not all the time though. Given the extreme piercings some people now get I somehow doubt pierced ears will be uncool anytime soon. ;-)

but samart to answer your question, there's nothing abnormal about piercing a 3 month old baby's ears. It's just personal preference of the parent I guess.

My oldest daughter now has diamonds in her ears. She also has her birthstone and diamond and sapphire earrings. I think she has a better collection than me lol

Lots of people pierce their baby girls' ears at one month, I vaguely recall hearing about newborns getting pierced even.

I hardly think having those TINY holes in their ears will be a detriment to their mental or emotional health later on. I kinda tend to think people blow this sort of thing WAY out of proportion. It's small earrings, and tiny tiny holes, not like some huge body-altering catastrophe.

I believe that for some it's sort of a rite of passage for little girls to get their ears pierced early. Something of an extended version of dressing newborn girls in all those frilly clothes and goofy headbands. It's not like the girls can't choose to wear them or not later on.

This is nothing new. My grandmother told me that in her time, baby girls' ears would get pierced.

I guess it's kinda like notching a pig's ears early, or branding a calf. Catch 'em while they're young and let 'em grow up that way.

    Just agriculture humor there.

Ehhh...every one does what is best for them, however, I felt that I should allow that to be my daughter's own decision. My parents didn't pierce my ears until the begged them to let me get my ears pierced (I think I was about 5 or 6). But, for my daughter, I want to reinforce that she has some say as to what is done to her body. That's just me. Not knocking anyone for getting the piercings early...

I had my daughters ears pierced when they were infants, I figured if it hurt them they would forget about the pain as they grew older, so do it young. Of course neither of them wears earrings anymore but oh well.....
