    Default posture

since i noticed in gold coast girls thread a lil discussion on psture happening i thought it deserved its own thread.

i have a TERRIBLE prob with my posture.

i cant even sit upright with my legs out infront of me!! omg! or do those squat things where you squat with your back straight.i REALLY cant do it.
lol the chick in the pic is sitting how i cant!

    anyone else with this prob?

i would have thought wearing high shoes all night would improve posture somewhat? but so many dances complain they have bad posture or bad backs im begining to wonder....

    whats your posture problem?!!

    There could be several things:

    1 - You have scoliosis
2 - You have not exercised your back muscles/abdominal muscles and your back is showing that.
3 - You have very tight hamstrings...

All can be corrected with proper exercise. Pilates is the best for that along with Yoga. I've never had a problem (I'm hyper-flexible), but I know that when I don't do daily Yoga/Pilates, my flexibility does change a bit.

High heels exacerbate bad posture. With heels, it makes your back arch more...elongating the legs and making the butt look bigger. However, most dancers find that they start suffering from sway back (where even when their shoes are off, they have that arch in their backs). It is not a fun feelings, however, it IS reversible.

I would strongly suggest getting a good Pilates/Yoga routine going.

Yep, like Venus said Pilates and yoga will help you obtain a better posture. I also lift weights to help strengthen my back and abdominal muscles.

My posture problem. I hunch over, like I'm leaning forward. My mother used to tell me I was just lazy, but even when I try to stand up straight, I always end up slouching again. It makes it look like my head comes forward, but since my hair is long, usually no one notices unless I wear my hair up.

If you do Yoga and Pilates for long enough, you will notice that your posture just "straightens". I love the look of ballet dancers - head high, back straight, walking on air...after doing pilates and yoga for long enough...I walk like that now.

I have that problem as well, sometimes. Tia.

But Venus is right, Pilates/Yoga helps out a lot.
