A lot of people have actually liked the movie so far. I'd hope for people to know more about "Alexander" (who he was, etc) before actually seeing the movie to understand it completely.Originally Posted by Gabe

National Treasure is actually a really good movie... VERY thought provoking...

I'm slightly skeptical... I've heard it's a cheesy "divinci code" rip offOriginally Posted by DJ Russ Reign

Didn't read Divinci Code, so I can't comment there... I went into National Treasure thinking the premise and PG-13 rating would make it swiss, but it actually wasn't cheesey at all in that respect... The girl I went with said it was the best movie she has seen in the past few years...Originally Posted by A_Guy

I loved that movie! I was shaking as I drove home.
I didn't like The Grudge too much though, I am not a fan of sara michelle gellar and her acting.

Didn't see that - I'm not really all that into horror movies in general...Originally Posted by RoseDelight

If you like movies like that, check out "Audition." It's in Japaneese, with english subtitles. THAT is one fucked up movie.Originally Posted by RoseDelight
Here's the plot summary from IMDB... "Seven years after the death of his wife, company executive Aoyama is invited to sit in on auditions for an actress. Leafing through the resumés in advance, his eye is caught by Yamazaki Asami, a striking young woman with ballet training. On the day of the audition, she's the last person they see. Aoyama is hooked. He notes her number from her file, calls her and takes her to dinner. He hesitates to call again, worried that he'll seem too eager. When he does, Asami knowingly lets the phone ring for some time before answering. She's alone in her darkened room - alone, that is, apart from the writhing victim she has tied up in a sack on the floor..." It goes WAY downhill after that. I damn near couldn't finish this flick...

National Treasure- Lots of thinking and the "Oh Snap" thought went through my mind when I saw that.
Saw- Awesome, when you think you thought of a way out or who the killer might be, guess again!
Grudge- Scariest movie since sixth sense IMO. Story line was terrible so was the setting, but thats cause its in Japan.
-Huge movie junkie.
I want to see "The Grudge" so bad. Can't wait for the DVD to come out, because that's when I will.. LOL
I'm anxiously awaiting "The Ring 2" to come out in the Spring (Thanks for that preview link a while ago, Mad!) The first one scared the stuffing out of me, and still does, but yet, I really want to be scared by the sequel..

Alexander was a big disappointment. It started off very well, in spite of Colin Farrell being very badly miscast as Alexander.
Guagemela was fantastic, and very accurate. The one thing about the battle scene that I didn't like was that though the movie was far better than most about depicting historical armies accurately as being a bit scruffy, the Persian Royal Guard at Guagemela should have been much more impressive looking. Even if they were defeated, they would have looked very good beforehand--this was the elite of the most (ostensibly) powerful Empire in the world at the time. But I am nitpicking, and the movie's other weaknesses are much more glaring.
In spite of a great deal more historical accuracy than most similar efforts, Alexander still manages to mislead audiences concerning what kind of man Alexander must have been, and how he was viewed by his contemporaries. The big problem with the Macedonians' resentment towards his efforts to unite his conquests culturally was right on the money, at least.
Alexander could never have conquered the known world with the kind of sniveling, anguished, pleading antics shown in the movie. Alexander the Great commanded, he did not whine, as Colin incessantly does. Also, whether or not he was gay or bisexual, the Macedonian army would never have cheered him on like a football team at Prom night if he decided to kiss a dancing boy at a banquet, for chrissakes.
Saw was good, and unlike most horror movies, kept me guessing right up until the end, with it's last big surprise.
But the one thing that got me, was the way they kept flashing back to what had happened the night before, and going "Oh yeah, that wierd guy with the mask was kind of strange!", like anyone would ever forget some of the stuff that happened. I'd be blaming the fucking mask loonie for sticking me in that room right away. It was a bit contrived. Still, a lot better than your typical horror movie.

I would think Alexander was more like the character played by Jolie than the one played by Colin.Originally Posted by Djoser
The one scene where the Mac wanted to go home and almost mutinied was perhaps the most likely - and that is where the persian troops went behind Alexander to protect him. It basically said he had factions facing off against each other instead of uniteing against him. Then the movie went into speech making. Please.
The character portrayed in the movie - he just didn't seem like a uniter - didn't seem like a commander - didn't seem like a politician.

Yes, there was a near mutiny, as you mention Deogal--but where Colin was anguished and desperate, Alexander was emphatically not. He ultimately did give up and turn back, but the army would never have followed him so far if he had displayed that kind of personality. You don't get that many men to follow you for eight years by begging and whining. His charisma just doesn't come through effectively. The force of his will, which was incapable of begging, is much more convincingly portrayed by Angelina Jolie--good point!
Alexander was also literally a genius, which did not come out in the movie, other than that little bit of tactical pep talk the night before the battle, in which his time and battle-tested technique was made to appear a spur of the moment innovation. Colin is no genius, and it shows.
I'm really not as down on Colin as it may seem--few actors are possessed of intellectual genius, it's not part of the job description. I know nothing of him other than his acting in this movie, and his reputation as a Hollywood stud. His acting wasn't really bad, it just wasn't Alexander. How much of that was Oliver Stone pushing his interpretation of Alexander on him, I don't know.

Though I'm not nearly as familiar with the story of alexander as the bf, we saw it awhile ago.
All in all, should've seen the Incredibles again. I adored that one.
My main problem with Alexander was it was trying soooo hard to be an epic. It could've been, but not the way they did it. Was like it got thrown together and then they tried but it just wasn't going to happen.
BF just thought it could've been a lot better. Braveheart was a much better epic. Alexander was big budget and not enough good story.
Me: Not that Braveheart was a paragon of historical accuracy or anything.![]()

I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.
Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

Compared to the other "recent" epic/history movies, here is my ranking for Alexander:
1) Braveheart
2) The Last Samurai
3) Troy
4) Gladiator
5) Alexander
