    Default Massage, Body Image, Etc.

Hi, I'm a new member here. I have been a massage therapist in Houston for twenty years. I have worked with a number of ladies in lines of work where their bodies were very important to them. Any ladies having any questions about massage, or just wanting to chat about it. Tommy

I carry all my stress in my back and it always hurts. I suppose six inch heels don't help much eiether
I once read that we carry our emotinal pain in our tailbone and massage therapy on the tailbone helps release our old past issues.
    Have you heard of this?
I am very intreasted in the positive emotional aspects of massage therapy and would be intreasted in anything concerning this.

    Magdalena,

What you may want to check into would be someone who does more than just Swedish massage - which is what everyone thinks of when they think about massage. Regular massage of any kind definately helps keep your body feeling better, and it can also improve your state of mind. But there are so many other types of massage out there that specifically address the emotional as well as physical body.

For example you may want to look into a shiatsu massage, which is based on the Oriental accupuncture system. A central idea of shiatsu is that emotions can cause blockages in your body that end up causing pain. For example if you are having pain in the lower back, it could be part of your Water meridian and that often concerns fear, anxiety or feelings of being overwhelmed. So in shiatsu we believe that by working on the physical manifestation it will help the emotional and spiritual body as well. Obviously working in heels and doing what you do puts a certain strain on your body, but sometimes it is made worse by other things going on in your life. I've had several people have fairly intense emotions come through just by working on specific points.

I'm not familiar with the San Fran area so I can't recommend anyone specific, but I'm sure if you checked the yellow pages you could find a ton of different types of massage. And if you have any more questions, feel free to post here or message me, I'm happy to help.

Thank you very much for that information Miette.
That sounds exactly like what I am looking for.
I will check into this A.S.A.P
I have always belived in the emotonal benefits of massage.
Everytime I get one I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders afterwords. And have often thought up great new ideas during a massage and have even had sudden insights into problems or emotional issues I am dealing with during a massage.
I just love that feeling of my body and mind being stimutanusly healed.
    Thanks again

    Pamela,

Obviously I'm not Tom, lol, but I can say that massage and dry brushing definately DO help with cellulite. And if you don't have any now, then its a great preventative measure. You don't have to go at it too hard, that could aggrevate the veins and skin, but a good medium hard pressure is perfect.

    Magdalena,

Another great benefit of massage is that if you get them regularly, they help keep your body in better shape and you are less prone to hurting yourslef. Glad to hear you are going to try a massage, let me know how it works out for you
