    TFP means.... TIME FOR PRINT

Meaning, that is not a pay job, it means you give your time for posing for them and they "pay" you back by prints and CDS of your pictures...

great if you are starting out for modeling

if you got more question ask away

Here's a thread in "Other Work" that talks about rates and stuff a bit.

You might run into another acronym, too: MRF, or model release form.

I love OMP. I also use Muse cube and I am signing up on Solomodel. There is also premier model.........lol

The first couple weks are crucial to you establishing a consistent base to get shoots from. When you are listed new like that, it's like a beacon to all your local photogs.

make sure that you keep a good log of everyone that you talk to. I upgraded my port to Platinum right away because it was bringing me so much money. Plus it allowed me to see casting calls and i got listed to a bigger gallery of photogs and agents.

I pay a manager to keep on me and to go to shoots with me. He is a professional talent agent and deals with these type of situations all the time.
He deals with my diet, personal trainer and booking.

Check references and talk to some of the models that have shot with the photog before. You can outwork other models in your area by being very professional, returning e-mails promptly, and networking.

These photogs are social capital and are great for your career. They all talk.

Never go to a shoot alone and make sure that you read a little about the laws regarding your intellectual property- your image.

Don't listen to anyone that gives you a rate list. It varies from state to state. (well listen, but realize that you may be able to get more or less because of the pool of money that you are dipping into.)

Negotiate with the photog as you are going through your model release. You can add on to that contract.

Make sure that you only do what you want and make sure that you control the release of content. Have an idea of boundries and stick to them.

I am booked through next February. All but two of those jobs are paying. I rarely do TFP or TFCD. I only do tfp or tfcd if I adore the photogs work o I need to expand my port. (Which right now I do)

Always ask what they are shooting for and also where they plan on releasing the pics. You can negotiate where your pics will be released.

I have a personal assitant at most of my shoots. If you start to manage other models, you can bring them along and have them help with hair and makeup. Getting clothes, fetching anything that the photog might need. I usually get the assistant and the photog together sometime during the shoot so that they can do a few shots together. I also bring a make up artist to the bigger shoots. This will help build a relationship with other models and get them some more content for their port. It also gives a little something extra to the photog.

I do travel, but I always insist that I am paid for travel expenses, and the expenses of an assistant.

    I hope that helps

It's not complicated, you just have to be careful. Tell the photog what you want, how much you want to get paid or you can e-mail me and I can help you out. I met my agent through my art studio. I am also an artist. I have been promoting actors and actress for a couple years now so it was easier for me to find people to help me. what's your omp #

Dont get overwhelmed hun, just be careful.

I've actually met some pretty cool photographers through that site, though I'm sure there's some real pieces of work, too. But there are also some really cool guys--like Jay--who are semi-pros and really good photographers, it's just that for whatever reason it's their avocation rather than their job.

AshleyRose has awesome advice. It's really not that complicated, just make sure you see (and like) the photographer's work, and also talk to any references he provides. It's good to get to know other models in your area, too, they can be a really good source of info on photographers.

out of curiosity for the women that do nude shoots, are you afraid of it showing up in a place where your family could possibly see?

I have had several photographers from the clubs want to do shoots with me, im just afraid of where my picture may end up?

    any help ashley?

tampa, this is just my own take on it: It's all a risk. Once your photo is out, it's out.

You can protect yourself to some degree by checking references on the photographer and making sure you're dealing with an honorable person. You can negotiate an MRF that prohibits certain uses of your photos, and you should ensure that the MRF includes provisions about resale of your photos.

That just reduces the risk. Nothing eliminates it. Once the photo's been taken, it can get out.

Ultimately, there is no absolute guarantee that photos won't end up on some website or be manipulated or used as advertisement for some club, brothel or massage parlor, even with the most appropriately filled out forms. Look what happened to Catherine Zeta-Jones a month or two back. It's not even always a photographer's fault: sometimes, someone may just save it off the web and use it for something else.

One thing I looked into as a photographer was using a digital watermarking company. What's a digital watermark? It's a program that plants a predetermined bit of code within an image, using the garbage bits of jpeg compression to attach a license number within an image. Not just a signature placed on the edge of a photo, but it's within the image, so a basic crop won't be able to avoid it. Usually the digital watermarking companies would charge a subscription fee, so that they would run regular searches on the web to find where the photo might be on the web, finding pirates, cheats, and people placing the image where it should not be.

Ultimately, that service is still a bit expensive for small photographers. But an agency or big photographer might use it. It's still a very new service, but worth asking about.

I have great management and an even better lawyer. I make sure that all of my mrf info is filled out real well and that I have contractual control of all of my images.

I would also hesitate to give any true quotes on what rates might be in your area. Each area is in it's own way a fish bowl filled with only a select amount of money. Travel helps alot. I can get paid twice as much in LA or Vegas than Colorado.
I also work with photographers to refer me and give them some percentage of any monies that I might make from a referred shoot.

Onemodelplace.com, probably the leading site for models or wannabe models and photographers to post their online portfolios.

What are some things why someone would not get a modeling job? I have a tattoo that I like alot but I think it would prevent me from getting a job. Its just a lotus flower about 5 x 5. I would like to put a portfolio in OMP this year just to see what I get.

That's a difficult one to answer. In most cases, it's job-specific. There are some jobs that won't hire you if you have visible tattoos (depending how 'visible' they'd have to be to be visible, if you know what I mean...less skin showing for a Sears catalog than Maxim)...then again, there are some jobs that won't hire you unless you do! (More of the former than the latter). Sure, tattoos can be covered, but it can be a hassle and not always work in an ideal way.

Of course, there's a ton of other factors, too, many of which have a larger impact: What kind of shape you're in, scheduling and conflicts, your reputation (if you have one), and of course the photographer's preferences in terms of anything from work experience to pay scales.

Unless you're planning to model fulltime, it's probably best if you angle yourself for jobs that suit your image, unless you enjoy trying to change it a lot. Most niches have enough work to do on the side. If you do want to model fulltime (which is very difficult), you should keep your image as blank as possible, if you know what I mean. That way, you can be made up to fit any job. It's easier to turn a plain girl into a goth chick than vice versa.

But like I said, if you're just doing modeling as a side job, there should be more than enough jobs that won't care about (or may like) your tattoo, so I wouldn't worry. Depending on the location of your tattoo, it'll be fine. And posting a free profile on OMP is a good idea to see how photographers respond. Generally, mixing that with occasional posting on the message boards (to get people to go to your profile and look) should give you a legitimate idea of what kind of jobs you might get offered.
