Default Celebrating the birth of Christ at the club?

I personally don't care, but there was a post recently about christian music being played at the club, and now my club has started putting up Christmas decorations. There is garland wrapped around the posts at the corners of the stage, and I remember that they put an air filled Christmas tree on stage last year. I doubt any club would put up a baby in the manger nativity (?spelling?), but Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ. So, do Christmas decorations belong in the club? Just curious.

Christmas is celebrated by different religions, Not only Christians.

I do think hanging a baby in the manger in a strip club is a bit odd. I mean do people normally go to strip clubs to find God?

Different Strokes for different folks, but No I am not offended

i dont care. i think xmas has really progressed past the whole "birth of christ" thing in modern society anyway. i know i dont think "baby jesus" when i see a lit-up tree with presents under it. they put up decorations in every club i have ever worked in. i think it's just something folks do, not really a religious statement of any sort.

At the clubs I have wprked in we have always had a tree. I don't find it offensive or odd. Christmas is a celebration between friends and family.

I think it's very natural for clubs to have Christmas decorations, even a party. I'd like to check out a club on Christmas Eve

Christmas is a Christian holiday. No other religions celebrate it. THat being said- decorations at a club are festive. I have never seen a baby Jesus or a manger scene- but that would be funny.

Actually Christians aren't the only religion that celebrates Christmas.

I'm pretty sure only Christians celebrate the birth of Christ. Did I miss something in the link. I know that most Christian holidays are actually pagan holidays that the Chritians changed to fit their own "moral" beliefs. (I won't even get into any more religion on this- ha) But as far as I know- not many Jews of Muslims celebrate the birth of Christ. ha

Most religions don't define "Christmas" as being the birth of Christ.

I find God everytime I go in a strip club; women are proof that God exists, that's He's a male entity, and that He loves men.

I'll be sure to put chocolate under your Christmas tree just for saying that.

A Japanese friend once told me about the Christmas gift-exchange celebration her family had every year. They lived in the Tokyo Bay region. They definitely weren't Christian.

That was quite an anti-Catholic piece, Rose.

^ I'd settle for an RD-filled stocking...or just RD in stockings. Either way.

That it is. I was reading through it before this question was asked. I think I'll replace it with...

Oy vey, I'm an atheist, a lot of my friends are some variety of pagan or non-religious - the lot of us celebrate Christmas or Yule or Decemberween or something similar. Christmas is fun. I think stripclubs, like almost all other public places [malls, resturants, etc] celebrate the non-religious "fun" aspects of Christmas, and to me it isn't a big deal. If they did a manger w/ baby jesus in there I'd be amused, but I don't think that would be appropriate.

Christmas is not truly the celebration of the birth of Christ, you only think it is.

Good article, Rose. Wikipedia, as always, has good stuff on it, too:

A little-known tidbit is that the circumcision of Jesus is celebrated on January 1. That one always seemed strange to me - maybe the "lost foreskin" can generate another Indiana Jones movie. I'd think that there would be a religious holiday that a strip club could have fun with.

we have decorations up around the club, and it looks really cute. we also have decorations in the lobby with a nice box for Toys for Tots. Free admission if you bring a toy.

it doesn't bother me at all to have these around. maybe it will put the customers more in a giving spirit!

Christmas is not a Christian holiday, not really. It was adapted by those trying to sell Christianity to the Romans. We have no idea on what actual day Jesus was born. The pagan mid-winter feast day was adapted quite successfully, as was the fertility festival transformed into Easter, also originally pagan.

I believe even the idea of a Christmas tree is derived from a pagan festival, and a little research will no doubt prove that to be the case.

Later--aha, I see that Rose Delight and Jay Zeno have preceded me in correcting that little mistake...nice links.

Not true. Most religions have a holiday near to the Winter solstice (Around December 21st) similar to Christmas. It's because of winter and, historically, that's the time when people used to starve to death in the old days (Hence the 'giving' aspect, people used to give food, not gifts, and they gave it to the poor, not family members). Yule, Hanukkah, Christmas, they are all the same.

The nature of the holidays changed over time.

Chineese and Central American astrologers recorded that star he was supposed to have been born under, a star that wasn't there before (Big news to an astrologer), it was probably a supernova, and it was in the summertime. It was there for three months according to both sources (Consistant with a supernova), it had to have been close to appear in our night sky. Lucky for us it wasn't closer (None of us would have ever been born had it been too close to us).

The catholic church declared december 25th to be Christ's birthday to co-opt the regularly scheduled holidays the Pagans had, especially in the british isles (Yule was their holiday, hence 'Yuletide season'). This made conversion easier as people didn't have to change the stuff they were used to.

We decorate for Christmas every year with lights, stockings for all dancers and employees and a tree. I personally think as long as it's festive it's okay, anything religous (baby Jesus, etc) is just a little weird in a strip club.
