That being said, when in a physical confrontation with someone who overpowers you, your best option is to attack the areas of the body that are most vulnerable. The eyes are very soft and squishy; don't be squeamish and just poke at them with your finger; grasp the side of the face with your fingers, and use your thumb to dig in all the way to the end. Seriously, don't just jab the eye, sink your thumb in as far as it will go, and do it quickly, not slowly. If your life is in danger, it really doesn't matter if your hands get dirty.
Next, the throat: a quick, sharp strike to the larynx with the edge of your hand, or if the angle requires, use a half fist, where the second knuckles of your hand are the weapon. Do this hard enough, and you can crush the windpipe, and then steal the guy's wallet while he suffocates to death. hehehe.
Another effective attack to the throat is to push your fingers in on either side of the windpipe hard, then squeeze them together as hard as you can. See if you can make your fingers touch. When you have a good grip, pull hard. This will not really rip out their throat like in the movies, but can completely destroy their airway. **take note; when doing this it must be done VERY quickly, without hesitation. When people are grabbed by the throat, they have a natural instinct to do whatever possible to escape, and they can become very violent. So if you are in a situation where you must do this, speed is essential.
There are many, many techniques that can be used to quickly neutralize, disarm, incapacitate, or kill your assailant, but they are much easier learned than explained.
As for pepper spray, it is minimally effective against someone who is drugged up, enraged, or has been exposed to it before and is used to it.
Depending on what the laws are where you live, I would suggest a gun, but only if you can carry it on your person, not in a purse or bag. It is useless if you can't access and operate it in a second. Also be sure that you know how to use it, and are willing to without hesitation. A gun should only be drawn if your life is in danger and you plan on pulling the trigger.
