    Default Dancing in Los Angeles

Hey ladies, I just joined this site and noticed there were many questions about dancing in LA. I have worked here for around five years at many of the local clubs and can answer any questions anyone may have.
For the most part, LA is not a high money town. Unlike other areas of the country, in LA you have to split the cost of the dances approximately 50/50 with the house in addition to paying a low stage fee (usually around 20 bucks) and a tip out (usually around one dollar for every song you do to the dj, sometimes, the bartender, and sometimes the waittresses). So, what that means is, if a dance costs the customer 20 dollars, automatically 10 will go to the club, then you should subtract another three dollars (to cover your stage fee and tip out), leaving you with seven per song, or thereabouts. See what I mean?
The money that is to be made here is through regulars, so it's not a "just breezing through town" kind of place. Mileage used to be pretty low, but has grown to almost San Francisco levels (I think you know what that means). If there is alcohol (topless only) in the clubs, then mileage tends to pretty conservative, but there is very little money in the topless clubs in LA (not like in Vegas). The nude clubs are all medium to high mileage. Dances are performed usually in private/semi-private rooms, with mutual touching being fairly standard. Generally speaking the very high mileage clubs are outside the main city (in an area called City of Industry) where the mileage is San Francisco level.
You can make money, but like I said, usually only after you have developed a cache of regulars, and the cost of living in LA is very high, so it's hard to save. As for the girls, they vary from club to club, there are beautiful girls for sure, but most of the very beautiful model/actresses in LA do escort instead of dance, they don't want the exposure of being seen in public as a "stripper".
hope this helps. Feel free to ask any more questions. I can fill you in on most of the clubs. For the girl asking about Fantasy Island, it's a VERY laid back club, probably the nicest management in the world, but there's absolutely no money. Every few months, you can hit a jackpot there and have a slamming night, but it's a fluke. usually, you'll be lucky to make 100 dollars, no matter how beautiful or how much of a hustler, it's just that dead.

Since I've also worked in the LA area for the past 3 years, I thought I'd add my to this thread. Everything the above poster wrote is right on the money. LA is a high mileage city, although I don't think it rivals San Francisco in that respect. High contact lap dances with grinding are the norm, but overt sexual acts aren't common in most clubs (I'm sure Chili Palmer would opine differently, but I digress). A "clean" (by LA standards) dancer can make good, steady money by giving sensual lapdances with grinding. Since topless clubs offer no contact, they don't tend to offer the earning potential available in nude clubs. Also, since there is no alcohol available in the nude clubs, customers are usually there because 1.) they're under 21, or 2.) they want lapdances. Although there are a lot of lap-dance oriented customers, this does make for a steady customer base.

Because of the way lapdance profits are split in LA (usually 60-40 or 50-50 in some places), this tends to place a ceiling on your earnings. It is exceedingly rare to hear of dancers making $1500+ in one shift (unless you are the beneficiary of a very generous tipper). However, I have found that $500-$1000 per shift is an attainable goal, for the right dancer in the right club. (FYI there are way too many strip clubs in the LA area, and not all of them offer the sufficient customer base to make good money).

So, while the strip club scene in LA is far from ideal (from a dancer's POV), it is not as dire as some would have you believe. I would certainly never recommend that anyone move here for the express purpose of starting an exotic-dance career; however, it is definately possible to make a comfortable living here working as a stripper. In my opinion, the high cost of living in So Cal is a bigger impediment to a dancer than the earning potential in the clubs. I know several new-homeowners who have assumed mortages in the range of $2000-$3000 per month. So, expenses like that can definately eat most of your profits. I would think that dancers in New Orleans or Baltimore probably enjoy a higher standard of living than their LA counterparts.

P.S. Fantasy Island might have been popular at one point; however, it is little more than a dilapidated rat-hole these days. There is a much newer, nicer bikini bar called Plan B located directly across the street. If I were interested in working in West LA, I would probably go there first.
