I just heard about this on the radio. Anyone else? Heard there maybe a possible drug that will vanish the disease that's already in someone's system.
I don't know that. I have the knew Newsweek, and it talks about AIDS and women, age, race, empoyment. But nothing about a new drug.
Wow that would be great, since Florida ranks VERY high with HIV/AIDS.

i just heard about it too...
Its not a cure...yet...or it may never be.
But I think they developed something that attacks and destroys the virus.
Ill have to research this.

Yes Ain, that's what I heard. But I really couldn't get to hear what they said, I was on the phone at work. Wow, that would be awesome if so.
Pam in NJ/NYC ranks up pretty high too.

cant find anythign on cnn.com...dont know
I did a quick search on Yahoo and found nothing about an AIDS cure.
Though I enjoyed my time at the Paradise Ride 2004, I would rather that charity events like that would no longer be needed. I certainly look forward to the day when there is a cure for AIDS, as I look forward to the day when cancer and diabetes are no longer among us.

also, the aids virus mutates so quickly which is why it is currently treated with a combonation of different drugs. the best cure will likely be a vaccine. I think.
Nothing on A.I.D.S. cures? I've found several listed in the past - if you add "surpressed" to the search they will probably come up. There are heaps of books too. There's also a site called virusmyth which is very interesting!

What I remember hearing about the miracle drug years ago was I think the beginnings of the cocktail treatments. If I remember correctly, what they did was combine a bunch of drugs which attacked the virus, causing it to mutate so fast it basically wore itself out and died. But if given to people in tha form it would kill them along with the virus. Obviously the cocktails they're selling aren't that strong but I guess that's why we hear about cocktails often making people vomit alot.
Interesting this has been on the radio but it's not on any current news sites.
i heard something about this on tv a week or so ago (not sure which news channel)
But i believe they are trying to get a vaccine approved.

It was actually a pill that they had mentioned.
While we're on the topic, that disease is seriously one of my biggest fears.![]()

I'd be surprised, given the nature of HIV and its strategy of attack on the immune system, if a vaccine were developed. Perhaps there's a genetic "magic bullet" out there, but I don't think our bioengineering is quite there to find or make it.
There's drugs, the most well-known of which was AZT, and when used in cocktail form, can do quite well for some people. The problem is that any antibiotic or antimetabolic is not limited to just one bio form or specific metabolic process. Other systems are going to be affected, too. So the same drugs that can make the virus sick can make the host sick.
Check out for some reasonably plain info on cocktail treatments and their efficacy.
Later edit: And now, having looked at LSM's link, I certainly hope it turns out to be true.
OMG @ the chart
I'm sure there is something out there but you have to have a lot of money. whatever happened to majik johnson and him having hiv? i remember him being on a talk show a while back and the host asking him about it and him replying that is completely out of his system and the audience started clapping, i'm thinking why the fuck are you clapping for him, if he got the "cure" then why can't anyone else? o wait i can answer that, it's because he has money.
the slutty one
In the link that I posted, it starts the story of a lady who was facing certain death from AIDS, and the cocktail therapy brought her back to much better health.
Certainly, Magic Johnson having money helped him. He didn't have to skip work, he could set his own hours for his own doctors, and could spend what he needed on therapy. If there was a certain diet regimen that was optimal, he could structure his life around it. If there was experimental treatment outside of insurance, he could pay for it. There's a lot of collateral benefit to having money.
However, the same drugs that were available to him are available to others. Some people survive cancer through chemotherapy - others die. There's a lot of varianability in how any human body will react to disease and treatments.
WOW!GReat News!
The problem they face like with any virus, is treatment. Of course a "pill cocktail" is what they have for our patients, that's great. But we are actually keeping the immune system healtier with these drugs, and pretty much that's all. MJ has been fortunate, yes. But he still gets sick. It's not HIV or full blown AIDS that kills us, it's all the complications from it, i.e. a big one is Pneumonia. The disease attacks our imune systems in various ways, makes us weak and all other diseases attack our bodies. I wish for a cure, as i work around these people as they pass by at the hospital, they are sick, they are sad. That makes me sad. I have to have an open mind, not all people got AIDS from lack of education. I only hope they are close to a cure, but i don't see it soon either.

Pamela is right. People with AIDS die from opportunistic diseases, diseases that a normally healthy person would easily fight off. That's why you hear about people with AIDS dying from really weird diseases (in addition to pneumonia)

I heard about this from a freind who is a biologist.
What she told me is that scientists in France have found a way to take some of your cells out of your body and remove the HIV virus from them, and then rely on natural selection in cell death and reproduction for the HIV cells to eventually be mostly gone and the healthy cells to take over. I hope that makes some kind of sense, it made sense when she was explaining it. She said that they've done it successfully on lots of animals and one or two humans. It involves "genetic engineering" because of the cell modification, so it might not be allowed here in the US even if it is approved in France.
