johnny greenwood on "paranoid android."
This is A WAY unfair question!!!
Alex Lifeson, Rush, "Freewill" "Limelight" "The Analog Kid"
Kjehl Johansen or Vitus Matare, Trotsky Icepick, "Rubberband"
Paul Westerberg, "Alex Chilton" "Bent out of Shape"
Keep in mind these players composed these solos to serve the entire song- cumulative effect.
Mike Bloomfield-"You're Killing My Love"
Bloomfield's recorded output tends too be erratic mainly due to his drug habit, mental illness { Manic Depression}.But he made his name on the first two "Butterfield Blues Band" albums. He was fast, fluent, and emoted an incredible amount of soul in his playing.I read he would actully drool at times while soloing. This is one of his best solos ever.Kinda hard to find. Bloomfield's searing solo is as contextually perfect within the song's rhythmic framework,as it is exhilarating. It cuts through the Fillmore West Ballroom {Where it was recorded live} with absolute authority.
Trivia for Big Ten- Bloomfield came from a very affluent family. His father owned the "Bloomfield Restaurant Supply Company".The classic domed sugar shaker with the little flap over the hole is a Bloomfield design, and on the bottom of most of them you can see a "B" in a circle and the word Chicago. Now of course they're made of plastic and from Japan etc.But next time your in a diner check it out I've seen a few.
