Default A Tanning Bed Novice Question

OK, so I've never, ever been into a tanning bed. I am always spouting the dangers of doing so, and it kinda scares me.
However, I've decided I really oughtn't knock it till I try it, so I am thinking of going and getting sun-zapped. I am tired of going through a bottle of Sally Hansen spray every 2 days. I'd like to be a little golden brown.
I am a VERY pale natural redhead, I don't necessarily burn easily (I have lots of Native American in me) but I don't want to get too dark.
I read the thread on what you use when you go into a tanning bed--what's all that about?
How do I keep from getting too dark, and how long does the tan last? (In other words, is it worth the damage done?)
Eh. Any advice would be useful!

why don't you try the mystic tan first? I tan during the winter like once a week. During the spring/summer i tan 3 x a week. I use high pressure beds/stand up. I use only the best lotions (swedish beauty, ultimate, california tan etc..) Look at this site it will help you with you tanning questions http://iamtan.com/

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

A few months ago there was a long thread here about UV ray/ tanning bed damage to skin. I recommend you read it.

IF you decide to tan, start out slow. Only five minutes to start, and slowly build up. And don't tan more than a couple times a week the first weeks until you start to get used to it. The key here is to slowly build up your tolerance. Even when you feel like your skin has gotten quite used to it, don't ever tan more than every other day, and don't ever stay in for more than 30 min.

    Thank you all so much!
I think I'm too chicken to go through with it. Maybe I'll mystictan or airbrush tan for fun. Or I'll just stick to Loreal Sublime Bronze and Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs.
It'd be fun to have a golden airbrush tan for once. Everyone's so used to me being translucent

In my opinion, there is no such thing as getting too dark,LOL!!! I'm a tanning junkie.

I use to tan, and I made the mistake of going 12minutes every day when I first started out, and I totally burned my butt. That really sucked, but at least I never peeled because I usually turn tan after being red for a few days. So I would recommend starting out easy and do not try to rush the process... it took me a month or so before I started looking nice. I also tanned nude because I hate tan lines... that's about all I can think of telling you because I have never tried mystic tan or anything like that. Good luck!
