How do you loose weight fast?

Has anyone ever lost weight fast, the dreaded fasting way?

Im going to try this..... I guess you can't eat anything but juices /water, or anything thats pure liquid....ONLY well with the exception of fruite, but I think pure fasting is Liquids only for thirty days, then graduate to fruite and vegtables... I think the first thirty days will clense your system.....

way back when, i went to church, Our preacher took a cabin in the moutains to go on a 30 day fast..... when he returned you could visably see how skinny he was..... but he said it left him feeling very week.... he nearly lost balance walking up the steps to do his sermon, his first morning back.

maybe I wont go the whole 30, but a 2 week fast, then fruit, and vegies...

has anyone else ever tried this?

I have done it quite a few times before... and it is the only way i can get those pounds off fast.

Not trying to get all religious on anyone..... but this really seems like an effective way to loose is 10 to 30 days.

my ex had a book about fasting, be careful if you are a dancer b/c this book said that, as your body detoxifies itself your skin can break out and some really funky smells can start coming out of your pores. and if you are drinking at work you will probably get drunker on less alcohol than nomal if you are on an empty stomach.
i have never been able to fast voluntarily--only if i was sick or on speed could i just not eat. of course i am not recommending you get on drugs!! just saying it is hard not to eat. maybe it would be better if you start your fast off slowly, 1st day dont eat dinner, 2nd day no lunch or dinner, etc.

yes I did this the beninining of last summer untill I got down to my desired weight. It worked like a charm, and ya know what?....I didn't even miss eating. I associated eating with being fat and I diciplined myself to eat basically just raw tuna fish and egg whites and coffee.

From a health and nutrition point of view fasting should NEVER be done for the purpose of weight loss.

A 48 hour cleansing fast where you continue to drink plenty of fluids is doable. Anything past that, and the weight it all going to come back eventually as your body will go into starvation mode.....

30 days! Unless you are fasting as a protest to free your people, its a stupid idea.

Im sorry I support making yourself thin and beautiful and feeling great BUT.....theres a line somewhere and when you only eat pretty much an unbalanced diet of fruit, water, vegetables and such you are starving your body of important nutrients it needs to live on. Im sure there is alot of wierd stuff that happens to your body when you detoxify by means of starvation. And you know who else does this....many parts of Africa and many other countries. Is called famine and starvation.
Here we are worried about our wieght when we have the beautiful outside, gyms, the ablity to buy and eat healthy, the ability to educate ourselves...while others are dying and starving from not taking in any food at all. Im not mad maybe a little upset about they way people "diet". We just have all the resources in the world available to us and we talk about crash dieting when others are simply dying over something so simple as wanting to eat. Just a little thing in perspective.
Im sure it might take a while but excersizing and healthy eating will always make your body healtheir in the long run.

Fasting to lose weight is just, well....Insane. Do you realize that after that weight is gone, You can still gain all of it back faster than before?

I've fasted for religious/philosophy reasons only. Fasting to lose weight is just stepping up on the 'anorexica' plat form.

    Eat right, and work out.

Let's think about it here.....You fast for 30 days, You lose 30-40 lbs. Let's say after that, You'd like to lose more.....So you decide to fast again for another 30 days. This will lead to anorexia, quick. There's no such thing as a quick and easy solution to losing weight. Your whole body will eventually shut down after so long without food.

Try liquid diets, or something of more substance where you are getting important vitamins.

A short fast, like Katrine said, is a fine idea, as long as it is followed correctly... be careful, and drink lots and lots of water, i know it says no salt, however, there is a such thing as water intoxication, which comes from drinking too much water and screwing up the balance of sodium in your body, dont let that happen, add just a little bit of sodium, to make sure that balance stays fine, especially if you're drinking so much water and natural juice... good luck, and be careful

PLEASE do not do anything more than a couple days. It will ruin your skin and make you miserable. You system has no way of knowing you are doing this on purpose and will freak out. I tried diet tea and had the worst intestinal drama.....I don't even want to know what was in the tea to make that happen.....Consider putting puree'd fruits and vegetables into the diet along with liquid.....Good luck but don't make yourself ill over it.

besides when you put yourself into starvation mode like katrine is talking about, your metabolism will slow and it wont "start up again" like it was before you harmed your body.

a fast for a couple of days sounds good, to cleanse your body and possibly get the weight loss started, but anything past that i would not recommend.

If you're not serious about making a lifestyle change, then this isn't a good idea.

However, if you're interested in doing something that will have long-term benefits, check out the Raw Life.

I won't go through all the story about how I got into it, but the changes I made in my lifestyle were tangible and eminently positive--and I'm not even totally raw.

    Two cents.

There's alot of people in the LA area into the Raw lifestyle... There's a couple restuarants around. But it's very different than fasting. At least with the raw diet you're still eating. I had surgery on my stomach I had an extremely terrible ulcer I had to be on a required liquid clear diet for 2 weeks just to let my stomach heal and it was terrible and now i hate jello because of it. As being human we are suppose to eat... when we do not eat our body will go into survival mode were it will hold on to fat till we start eating again. Please do not go on a just liquid diet for more than a few days.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

I notice with us dancers, quick and *easy* ways to lose weight are usually a hot topic of conversation. I know a girl who has been on practically every diet known to man to lose her HIPS (which are gorgeous, curvy, and BONE, people!!) and all it did was make her more miserable and more self-conscious, since her hips weren't going anywhere fast. Not to mention, she has a beautiful daughter, so who the hell wants to complain about their hips when those hips helped carry around a child for 9 months?!?!
    *ranting*
    Healthy diet and exercise.
America is a fast nation--fast food, fast cars, fast diets, going nowhere fast...what ever happened to patience and enjoying the moment?!?!
Try eating smaller portions of only fresh and healthy food. Eat slowly. Drink a glass of wine with your meal and chew every bite well. Cut out fast foods and stuffed-with-preservatives packaged dinners-in-a-box. See if that works. Exercise doing something you enjoy (Nia, yoga, pilates, whatever). I think you'll find it much more enjoyable than denying yourself everything and living on juice.

Totally raw means that you only consume completely organic, raw fruits and vegetables. I'm mostly raw, but I like to indulge in a bloody Filet Mignon or Tenderloin when I'm out with a pretty lady.

Being mostly raw lets you indulge in otherwise unhealthy food choices on occasion with limited side effects. My one food vice is gourmet ice cream, which I don't do often (I gave up dairy years ago) but when I do, it's really good. Processed food is pretty easy to avoid once you've committed to doing it, and after a while if you try to eat anything not natural, you will get sick as a rabid dog, so aversion becomes easier.

It's about a lifestyle change more than a merely dietary change.

Hmmm, i was making reference to my sick mind....

But as long as you are going on to explain the diet in depth, i guess you could consider my diet to be raw too. But my favorite food consists of filet migon and scallops that i wouldn't be able to give up indefinately.

i always thought you couldn't drink too much water? is this tap water or bottled drinking water? very interesting

i have never been seriously overweight and im not sure how much you want to lose katharine, but i have found as far as my weight (not nutrition and health), i can eat what i want but don't over eat, and i will lose some weight.
i gain it when i constantly over eat and i lose it when i don't. i try not to eat much after the feeling of hunger is gone. also, it takes your brain about 15 minutes to register that your stomach is full. have you noticed if you eat a huge meal, say whew im full, about 5 minutes later, your like, omg i am soooo full!! a manager at a resteraunt i worked at told us this and i started paying attention and it seems to be true, i think.
    food for thought

of course from the health side of it, eat right, exercise, and don't be unrealistic with your goals or feel you must be a certain weight to be attractive or whatever-your are beautiful the way you are

you should associate eating crappy food with being fat, not all food. food is energy and you have to have it to live.
i am curious stella, how much did you lose and how long did you do it?

any time i ever wanted to lose a few lbs. i could never not eat. if i tried to skip a meal i would feel really nauseous. i think its best to make sure you are getting the things you need not starving yourself.

coffee does help curb the appetite. but it makes me shake like a leaf, so i don't mess with it much except in the mornings, lol.

Meal replacements are a good idea too. Instead of eating three meals a day you can replace one of them with a low fat nutrituional meal replacement. I dont know if you get Sustagen there but thats what i drink.

Is fasting healthy for you? Probably not. Will it make you lose alot weight quickly? Yes. Will most of it be water, and come right back as soon as you eat or drink something. Yeah. But I still fast. I usually do it when I am feeling really fat and yucky. Whether it actually is good for me from a medical stand point, it does make me feel healthy and cleansed afterwards. My favorite is the Sacred Heart Diet, you start out making a huge pot of vegtable soup that actually tastes really good. The first day is soup and fruit only. The 2nd day is veggies, soup, and a baked potato with butter. The 3rd day is fruit, veggies and soup. The 4th day is bannana's, milk, and soup. The 5th day is 10-20 oz of beef, tomatoes and soup. The 6th day is beef, veggies and soup. The 7th day is brown rice and soup. I like it because you can eat the soup anytime you are hungry and are rewarded with alot of steak on the last two days! The diet claims that you can lose 17lbs in a week. I usually lose somewhere around 7-10lbs by the end, maybe 2- 4 lbs end up staying off. The soup makes you pee so much, and most of the weight is water and will come back unless you continue on the diet. I have a short attention span though, and usually end up doing it for one week at a time. But it is really good if you are just feeling fat or want to flush out your system.
