Default Searching for Debra Winger Movie

I have been watching the documentary "Searching for Debra Winger" and it struck me how similar the struggle is between dancers and actresses trying to maintain and balance their career and private lives.

It is very interesting to watch these famous women discuss the subject and hear so much of the same things that dancers struggle with.

Anyone else seen this documentary? What did you think of it?

I haven't seen the movie but I agree that we share alot of issues that actresses (or any celebrities) have re personal vs business lives. There are obvious differences between ours and theirs but I think there's alot of overlap.

Something I think of right away is having to remind yourself that whether you get the dance/part is not a reflection of your self-worth. That could also be applied to your public popularity.

Another is the way some become more reclusive and others become attention whores, and some swing from one to the other.

Then there's the whole issue of wanting those in your personal life to see you for YOU rather than a character you play.

Balancing between being "on" and "off", keeping the two separate, juggling personal life and weird work hours....

Yes I saw this documentary on IFC or sundance. I thought it was much needed seeing that most women in Hollywood have a very short life span that usually does not include children, which is strange because isn't it the tabolids that are always say who and who is pregnant. It's a puzzle. It was a good documentary.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

Sadly, marriage and childbearing affects the way the moviegoing public views an attractive young actress. AND in Hollywoood there are women who would literally cut throats to get to the top and become stars.....It's easy to be neurotic in that kind of environment. "Notting Hill" was all about that. (Oh, if only Hugh Grant was as sweet and virtuous in real life....sniffle, weep.)
Did you know a famous Victoria's Secret model was penalized for breaching her contract with the lingerie company? She wanted to get married, but the act fell under "image altering" actions.....

Wow, Bridgette for someone who hasn't seen the movie yet you sure have a good grasp on the subject matter! I suppose it's the years of experience; I don't know if a young new dancer would "get" the similarities as much but for those of us who have been at this job for a while, this film will probably ring all too true.
