    Smiley Pilates

I've just started pilates. After just one class, I'm feeling it in my muscles already.
How many days a week and for how long per day to achieve optimum results?
Has anyone else been taking the class?

    I take classes 5 days a week.

I started noticing the results after two months or so.....

You can see small results weeks after.

Pilates is an excellent form of exercise. I used to have one private lesson a week and take two yoga classes on top and found with this combo I was getting strong results after about 2 months.

It's more so for firming, and toning. But it's good to do while you're dieting, and etc.

I have been doing pilates for over two years on a machine. I had an excellent teacher which makes all the difference in the world. I love it and bought my own machine when she moved away. It makes my back feel good and I get miserable if I don't do it for a while. I am not in perfect shape but I think I need to add more to what I do and probably eat a little better. I was told in 10 sesssions you'll feel better, 20 sessions you'll look better, 30 sessions you'll have a new body. That was pretty true.

Been doing Pilates for (counting fingers) 5 years (?) now? I'm losing track...LOL

I LOVE Pilates!! Not only is my posture wonderful, but my body aches and pains are non-existant and my body feels lighter.

If you want to do Pilates for weight loss...well...I guess you could incoporate it into your cardio/fitness routine. Pilates is for strengthening and muscle toning...so, in the fact that the more LMM you have, the easier it will be for you to lose weight. However, if you want to use Pilates ONLY for weight loss...you may be waiting a while.

I noticed results within the first week (I did/do Pilates 7 days a week)...Depending on how often you do Pilates and how much focus and time you put into it...it'll show in the results.

Also I recommend going to a certified Pilates studio for your first 20-30 sessions. You'll really learn positioning and posture...why you do things a certain way...it'll help you with your home matwork exercises. Of course, it's kinda pricey, so you can always take 1 day at the studio each week and supplement with the exercises in "The Pilates Body" by Brooke Siler. Mari Windsor has some good tapes out, as well...

    Hope that helps!

It's too bad my pilates instructor moved to California. She was AWESOME! She has trained movie stars and her ex husband that she used to work with is Madonna's pilates instructor.

Pilates is by far the best workout for your core muscle groups which is key for a strong body and aids in longterm health because a strong core protects the back and spin as you age.

It is also a great way to over time lean out bulky muscle. It really helps make the body look firm without being too cut.

Does anyone know when it is best to do your pilates with your other workouts? Like before cardio and lifting, or after? Between? Just curious...

I prefer doing Pilates first thing in the morning. Do a nice, vigorous warm-up for 5 minutes and then start Pilates.

Pilates in the AM and Yoga in the PM.

I love pilates. I also have a Pilates Total Trainer at home and have aded weights to it. This gives me the opportunity to do any work out I want without going to a gym.

Pilates is great for strenghting your inner core. and keeping those abs in place
